luks: I have an mp3 that was release by the artist in several different albums. for example, Arctic Monkeys's Cornerstone was released in both albums, Cornerston - EP and Humbug.

luks: I'd like to have both albums in my iTunes without actually duplicating the mp3 file. Is this possible?

because of the way audio file tags work

luks: and is it possible to let picard do the work of "duplicating" the file? for example, a track from a disc be dragged over another disc holding the SHIFT key?

or something like that.

reosarevok, if I understand correctly, the terms separated are referring to different sections of the recording? If so, I suppose em dashes would be most appropriate, though without spaces: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dash#Em_dash

As I understand it, the question of putting spaces around em-dashes is regional.
2011-09-04 24738, 2011
CallerNo6 prefers them without spaces personally, but has never seen it done that way in a CSG-ified title

Interesting, I'd have thought that to be the case with en dashes...em dashes already take up so much space :P

Stylistically, I've always seen em dashes with no spaces, en dashes with spaces.

anyone else getting 502 and 500 errors from musicbrainz.org?
Lotheric: I don't think the brackets should be there, the featured artists simply go after the "feat." and the non-featured artists go before it

reosarevok: the link you provided showed /em dashes/ which are longer and (at least in the US) generally used without spaces

Lotheric: but I wouldn't vote no, as it's easier to modify it later to remove the brackets than it is to look up all the artists again :)

Lotheric
could it be clearer perhaps on the wiki ? the example shown is taken from the recording 'form' which does not allow parenthesis at the end
2011-09-04 24740, 2011

you can add brackets there, but you have to add an extra empty artist credit :/

I'll do that, just wanted to have more than one opinion before I start changing the way I edit stuff

an aside about featured artists... has there been any talk about cases where "featured" just calls attention to a prominent member of a band? I see that in compilations.
2011-09-04 24743, 2011
nikki
torc asked about it at some point, but not really

I don't have enough experience with those to have any strong opinions. all the ones I know of are entered as new artists

I've been wondering if/how to indicate the distinction between those and "feat = guest".

what to do when you have featured artists on the inlay but not on the back cover ?
2011-09-04 24724, 2011
nikki
I think my answer would be: if before you would have ignored and it just entered it under the main artist -> use the entire thing as an artist credit of the main artist. if you would have treated it like a featuring artist and put it in the title as (feat. foo) -> treat it like a featuring artist with two artists linked. if you would have added a new artist -> add a new artist
2011-09-04 24724, 2011
CallerNo6
That can't fault that reasoning.

I have a question about labels
2011-09-04 24729, 2011
Lotheric
the wiki says we should use the imprint and not holdings... since we hvae the possibility of having multiple labels for a release now in ngs can we add the distributor ?
2011-09-04 24753, 2011
CallerNo6
Lotheric: (speaking only for myself) I wouldn't want to mix the concepts of "label" and "distributor" by using the "label field" for both.
