CallerNo6, waiting for the split method to be added from test
      • (or if the artist has only a few recordings, doing it by hand :P )
      • drsaunde
the proper method is head + desk = headdesk
      • CallerNo6
ah, yes, I discovered the headdesk method.

Hi Folks. Does someone knows if with Picard I can tag a single mp3 file to multiple discs?
      • luks
        I don't understand
      • what do you mean by tagging to multiple discs?
      • CatCat
I have found the most awesome thing ever.. ok no but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZ_bhwCgtXg

luks: I have an mp3 that was release by the artist in several different albums. for example, Arctic Monkeys's Cornerstone was released in both albums, Cornerston - EP and Humbug.
      • luks: I'd like to have both albums in my iTunes without actually duplicating the mp3 file. Is this possible?
      • jacobbrett joined the channel
      • luks
        epc: no, it isn't possible
      • because of the way audio file tags work
      • epc
luks: and is it possible to let picard do the work of "duplicating" the file? for example, a track from a disc be dragged over another disc holding the SHIFT key?
      • or something like that.
      • luks
epc: nope, picard can't do that
      • epc
luks: ok. thanks for the help! :)

reosarevok, if I understand correctly, the terms separated are referring to different sections of the recording? If so, I suppose em dashes would be most appropriate, though without spaces: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dash#Em_dash
      • CallerNo6
As I understand it, the question of putting spaces around em-dashes is regional.
      • CallerNo6 prefers them without spaces personally, but has never seen it done that way in a CSG-ified title
      • jacobbrett
Interesting, I'd have thought that to be the case with en dashes...em dashes already take up so much space :P
      • CallerNo6 is checking the Chicago Manual
      • Leftmost
Stylistically, I've always seen em dashes with no spaces, en dashes with spaces.

        hey guys
      • CallerNo6
reosarevok: fwiw, "movements [that] are described by multiple tempo markings... should be separated by en dashes set off by spaces"
      • Lotheric
can someone share an opinion on this edit ?
      • CallerNo6
      • which is how I've always seen it done
      • nikki
Lotheric: I don't think the brackets should be there, the featured artists simply go after the "feat." and the non-featured artists go before it
      • CallerNo6
reosarevok: the link you provided showed /em dashes/ which are longer and (at least in the US) generally used without spaces
      • nikki
Lotheric: but I wouldn't vote no, as it's easier to modify it later to remove the brackets than it is to look up all the artists again :)
      • Lotheric
could it be clearer perhaps on the wiki ? the example shown is taken from the recording 'form' which does not allow parenthesis at the end
      • nikki
you can add brackets there, but you have to add an extra empty artist credit :/
      • Lotheric
I'll do that, just wanted to have more than one opinion before I start changing the way I edit stuff
      • nikki
heh... and I never did like the idea of screenshots on that page
      • CallerNo6
an aside about featured artists... has there been any talk about cases where "featured" just calls attention to a prominent member of a band? I see that in compilations.
      • nikki
torc asked about it at some point, but not really
      • I don't have enough experience with those to have any strong opinions. all the ones I know of are entered as new artists
      • CallerNo6
I've been wondering if/how to indicate the distinction between those and "feat = guest".
      • Nevermind. Just babbling.
      • nikki
what would you have done pre-ngs?
      • dubwai joined the channel
      • CallerNo6
Asked the same question, and then said, "nevermind... just babbling" probably
      • nikki
        haha
      • CallerNo6
Next time I run into a good example, I'll give it some more thought.
      • Lotheric
what to do when you have featured artists on the inlay but not on the back cover ?
      • nikki
I think my answer would be: if before you would have ignored and it just entered it under the main artist -> use the entire thing as an artist credit of the main artist. if you would have treated it like a featuring artist and put it in the title as (feat. foo) -> treat it like a featuring artist with two artists linked. if you would have added a new artist -> add a new artist
      • CallerNo6
        That can't fault that reasoning.
      • er, "That makes sense"
      • nikki understood what you meant :)
      • Lotheric
I have a question about labels
      • the wiki says we should use the imprint and not holdings... since we hvae the possibility of having multiple labels for a release now in ngs can we add the distributor ?
      • CallerNo6
Lotheric: (speaking only for myself) I wouldn't want to mix the concepts of "label" and "distributor" by using the "label field" for both.
      • It's a confusing enough subject already :)
      • Lotheric
I did not mean ad a new field
      • I agree it's confusing :)
      • reosarevok
Lotheric, I'd add it there too if the logo is in it
