reosarevok: well, yes, if you consider a (maybe constructed) example:
      • you have a VA release with composers written in Japanese, but the titles in rōmaji... so users might want a pseudo-release with the composers in Latin transliteration as well
      • composers = ACs
      • so in this case, I would set the script of the original release to "Japanese", and the new transliteration release to Latin (to distinguish both)
      • reosarevok doesn't know, whatever nikki says :p
      • reosarevok doesn't really know how people use pseudos :)
      • yes, it doesn't matter if the script is unset... because if someone wants to do this (add a pseudo-release), he can easily change the Latin script of the original release, the bot won't change it back
      • jacobbrett
Should this release be in the DB? http://musicbrainz.org/edit/16087180
      • reosarevok
jacobbrett: seems like a mix (as in, dj-mixed)
      • So it's not necessarily wrong to add it
      • But it does look strange
      • But technically, as something done by an artist with actual releases...
      • drsaunde joined the channel
      • Also, I guess it's actually a mash-up thing?
      • (looking at the titles)
      • jacobbrett
reosarevok: I thought it may be, though was waiting for a response. I think I'll just abstain.
      • reosarevok
        I would abstain, yeah
      • But you should ask if it's a mashup
      • hrglgrmpf
hmm, I found a release that has only one track "Multiple Titles (See CD)" :-)
      • reosarevok
I wonder what happens with a mashup of two songs of the same artist :p
      • hrglgrmpf
I think we can make our live a lot easier if we adopt this practise for all releases...
      • reosarevok
Sounds like a plan, huh? :)
      • hrglgrmpf, on the other hand it *is* a sampler
      • So the "all in one track" part is probably right
      • hrglgrmpf
yes, of course... but the reference to the CD is funny :-)
      • reosarevok
(where the hell did it come from BTW?)
      • (no history at all!)
      • hrglgrmpf
reosarevok: this is fairly common for really old releases... I don't know why...
      • reosarevok
        :/
      • Argh
      • nikki
hrglgrmpf: I think that would be a bit of a contrived and controversial example
      • hrglgrmpf
        why? (I agree on contrived)
      • reosarevok
        41 approvals
      • To make
      • Someone fix the recordings-from-release thing in beta
      • nikki
I would most likely vote no to adding a release where only the artist credits change, it's not necessary. picard can already use latin names (the primary use of pseudo-releases is tagging...) and we can already store localised names as aliases
      • neither are perfect, but neither is adding loads of pseudo-releases
      • flamingspinach
wtf? Are there really only three タワーレコード releases on musicbrainz, or are there more on some duplicate of this label which I can't find? http://musicbrainz.org/label/eb758e61-9ece-41eb...
      • Shepard
reosarevok: thanks for pointing at that forum thread. I was gonna add that box set release myself. now I know I don't need to bother :)
      • I don't own it anyway and didn't realise it was gonna be so complicated...
      • hrglgrmpf
nikki: ok! I never used a Pseudo-Release, so this was completely made up
      • reosarevok
flamingspinach, it says there it's a distributor
      • flamingspinach
        oh, you're right
      • reosarevok
So I would expect the releases to be under the specific labels
      • flamingspinach
        yeah, never mind :)
      • reosarevok knows nothing about this specific one though

flamingspinach reosarevok : tower records is a shop . the listed releases are Tower records ONLY releases like if there were Amazon exclusives or Itunes exclusives etc.
      • flamingspinach
        oh, I feel dumb now
      • jesus2099
they also have a production label but in these particualr cases (because they are tower exclusives) I thought better to put this distributor instead
      • I say “I” but I’m not alone
      • nikki
we don't use itunes or amazon as the label for itunes/amazon exclusives though
      • flamingspinach
I wonder why jesus2099 doesn't just stay in here if he's reading logs somewhere
      • SultS
perhaps I can get some opinions on http://musicbrainz.org/edit/16167464 ?
      • reosarevok doesn't, in principle, see a big issue with that edit
      • reosarevok
Unless the two names designate musically different projects
      • SultS
not really that much, AFAIK, unless you compare Armin then and AvB now.
      • reosarevok
FWIW, he lists them all indistinctly in http://www.arminvanbuuren.com/discography/page/...
      • SultS
But his other alias Perpetuous Dream is a different style and he hijacked that personally
      • reosarevok
Hmm, he also lists that other one there
      • SultS
that page is for all his aliases though, it seems
      • reosarevok
        Yeah
      • SultS
now that‘s just plain wrong :P
      • reosarevok
The first ones are marked Armin, the rest van Buuren
      • But this is marked both
      • kovacsur
so, SultS, why would you keep them separate?
      • MBChatLogger
        Honey badger don't care!!
      • reosarevok
I'd expect that to be "I just don't care, like honey badger"
      • Also, wtf, van Buuren is knighted?
      • The Dutch are crazy :)
      • SultS
kovacsur, because the name “Armin” was used officialy bu AvB, and on multiple releases. But it‘s mostly comparable to a band changing it‘s name at some point. I‘m not sure right now, do we merge these?
      • kovacsur
merging them has some practical advantages
      • reosarevok
SultS, we do if the changes are small I think
      • kovacsur
releases, recordings being in the same list
      • so I prefer to keep them together unless the differences are too big
      • hrglgrmpf
      • reosarevok
      • "If a group changes its name and then continues to use that name, as above, this depends mainly on the extent of the change. If it is only a fairly minor change, it is fine to simply update the current entry and use aliases and artist credits for the variations. If it is a larger change, it is usually considered a new group. Again, what counts as a minor change varies from artist to artist."
      • SultS
I can definetly see pros of keeping these names together, but I‘m not sure it‘s the correct thing to do
      • nikki
hrglgrmpf: well I hate url descriptions and wish they'd go away :)
      • hrglgrmpf
        hehe
      • voted no
      • reosarevok
So do I, but if we're going to keep them...
      • This kinda makes sense
      • It's really a description of what the link is, for once :p
      • hrglgrmpf
maybe we can use the description of the license URLs for better display in the future...
      • reosarevok
        Or kill it
      • :p
      • hrglgrmpf
        (changed back to abstain)
      • reosarevok
      • Heh, 5 votes
      • SultS
reosarevok, based on the description, I guess it‘s fine to merge… Still not sure I wanna vote yes to that though :P
      • reosarevok
        I think abstaining is fine
      • nikki
hrglgrmpf: we'd still need to special-case them because of all the shit already in the descriptions, in which case it doesn't make much difference whether it's in the url description or in the code itself
      • reosarevok
SultS: we do have a way to change a release + all recordings now (in beta)
      • nikki
hrglgrmpf: and in the code means it can be translated later ;)
      • reosarevok
So if then we want to undo it, we can
      • hrglgrmpf
        nikki: true...
      • nikki: feel free to vote no :-)
      • SultS
        reosarevok, that‘s good to know.

      • jesus2099
v6lur, could you rename the thread to something like « [fixed] Conflict with another userscript » ? Thanks in advance. :)
      • hrglgrmpf
        jesus2099: thanks a lot :-)!
      • jesus2099

      • v6lur
        done :)
      • jesus2099
        thanks :)

nikki, reosarevok : is http://tickets.musicbrainz.org/browse/MBS-3672 literally about changing the relationship type?
      • reosarevok
        Yes
      • ocharles
no attributes or anything like that?
      • warp
hm, how do I delete a work?
      • reosarevok
        warp, you remove all relationships
      • And ModBot does the rest
      • warp
        ah
      • reosarevok
        ocharles, not AFAIK
      • Let me re-read the RFC
      • KeLopez
        Why are you deprecating LSE?
      • You're trying to generalize?
      • reosarevok
        Ask BrianFreud for details :P
      • But yeah, ocharles: just merge into SE
      • That's what the RFC said
      • ocharles
        ok, review coming up
      • KeLopez
So when does the change come live?
