        no
      • reosarevok always found that funny
      • reosarevok
Aren't all physical releases limited editions? :)
      • _5moufl
some are more limited than other
      • reosarevok
        Sure
      • Dunno
      • Might be that those "limited editions" I see tend to have bigger pressings than most of the "normal" music I own :)
      • _5moufl
Can I use a usermade tracklist http://pastebin.com/USXUyV7S to create relationships?
      • reosarevok
        To works or what?
      • If you trust it to be right, sure
      • _5moufl
        to recordings reosarevok
      • reosarevok
        Hmm
      • I guess same
      • If you trust it, then yeah
      • _5moufl
UNtitled is a DJ mix of ... several things
      • I asked the guy that put this up

      • Rap featuring = Guest vocal +spoken or not?
      • nikki wouldn't have expected rap to be entered as spoken vocals
      • I didn't
      • just wondering
      • nikki
I would have just had rap as an option, but nooo, too vague whine whine ¬_¬
      • nikki is not helping :P
      • _5moufl
        :)
      • CatCat
god we STILL don't have rap?
      • wtf
      • nikki: you're stylethingy, can't you push this? (i guess it's not worth the hassle)
      • _5moufl

CatCat: nobody has proposed it lately
      • reosarevok
CatCat: we don't have it because it has no clear boundaries and it was talked down last times it was proposed

I would like to see “rap” option… I would think booklet crediting “rap” would crediting would be enough…
      • CatCat
I'd say to just use it if credited liek that :x
      • yea
      • reosarevok
Because people can't agree if http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_det... is rap
      • Darth_X has left the channel
      • Sure, but rap albums (almost) never credit rap as rap
      • So we'd reach the silly result of only having rap credited as such in a few random places but not on rap albums
      • SultS
        eurohouse might
      • how would rap albums be credited then? lead?
      • reosarevok
I tend to just use "vocals"
      • nikki
reosarevok: my japanese stuff rarely ever has credits for lead vocals despite it all having some lead vocals, yet that's no reason to nuke the lead vocal one :P
      • SultS
        this↑
      • reosarevok
Yeah, but lead vocals is not a style of vocalising
      • It's about their relative importance to the track
      • nikki
well I sure don't know what counts as lead vocals :/
      • reosarevok
        Isn't it?
      • nikki
I don't think I've ever used it, if I credit anyone it's just as normal vocals
      • reosarevok
        Yeah
      • nikki
(or background vocals for background or chorus)
      • reosarevok
I credit normal vocals as vocals, and background vocals as background vocals
      • (except when it specifically says "lead vocals" and I die a bit inside when I have to :p
      • nikki
        haha
      • reosarevok
nikki: in any case, "lead" is much harder to use wrong - I doubt almost anyone would use "lead vocals" for what someone thinks are background vocals
      • (unless his English is very bad and thinks it is because of the metal lead and makes all kind of strange mental associations)
      • But it's very likely that people would enter stuff like dancehall or reggaeton as "rap", when that is *very* controversial
      • (to the level that a good amount of Spanish rap fans, for example, would dismiss MB as "wrong crap" if they saw reggaeton entered as rap vocals)
      • SultS
even if so (don’t know these genres much), I’m not sure why some wrong use should mean it can’t be used at all…
      • reosarevok
(just a little bit of hatred going on there :P)
      • In principle I guess I can't oppose allowing it with a guideline that says use it only when strictly credited
      • But then I wouldn't want to be the poor sod who has to vote no to every single person adding rappers as "rap" :p
      • SultS
shouldn’t people who add these know more or less what it is? perhaps we should add more options together with rap then?
      • CatCat
        what is reggaeton and dancehall?
      • but stuff that is *clearly* tap.. yes
      • reosarevok
CatCat: is this clearly rap? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2tgYK-GJaU
      • (note: the answer in the side of the internet I usually visit is "no")
      • (or rather "NO FUCK YOU ARGH DIE")
      • CatCat
nope i'd not say that was clearly rap
      • he's singing heoo heoo
      • but inside the verse he raps a bit.
      • but not al lthe time
      • this is what I'd feel
      • reosarevok
If some slight singing disqualifies it, though, 50% + of what is currently thought of as "rap" in the US doesn't count
      • CatCat
so I wouldn't tag that as rap
      • but it's like this
      • reosarevok
Which again causes the problem of when to vote no :p
      • CatCat
i guess the problem is that it starts going into "genre" rather than "fact"
      • reosarevok
"Is it more hardcore than Public Enemy? If yes, use rap. If not, avoid"
      • Not a very good guideline
      • :p
      • CatCat
and we'd have to define what exactly *is* rap
      • but i'd say.. if it's a "rapper" (eg eminem or 50-cents or that french guy) or expisitly say "rap" then use it, else don't
      • reosarevok
Eminem has intonating in several songs ;)
      • jacobbrett
What do you call that auto-tune stuff you hear on the radio, anyway? Contemporary RnB?
      • SultS
that doesn’t sound like any rap I’ve heard :) (the video)
      • CatCat
        SultS: exactly
      • i guess it's reggeaton then
      • reosarevok
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIPYFVJntlM a lot of people would call this rap (and it isn't either)
      • CatCat
        :P
      • what is dancehall
      • SultS
I think I would recognize dancehall
      • reosarevok
jacobbrett: I think their preferred term is "urban music"
      • "mostly crap" is also an appropriate choice
      • CatCat
what is it if not rap?
      • reosarevok
        grime
      • jacobbrett
reosarevok: Yeah...I was scratching my head at "urban music". :P
      • reosarevok
(evolved from dancehall + UK garage, not from old school hip hop)
      • CatCat
ok ,thats gener, but he's not "singing"? he's rapping? or is he "griming"
      • reosarevok
        He's performing vocals :p
      • CatCat shjrugh, is it written as rap? no ,is he known as "rapper" then ,it's not rapper?
      • CatCat
but give an exaple as dancehall
      • i think you'll find that those thins that *credit* "rap" aren't whaty people woudl "call" crap
      • reosarevok
He's sometimes called rapper, sometimes grime MC, sometimes vocalist
      • CatCat
this is oppinion. i'd stil say it's pretty calcualte as if it's either called *rap* or the guy performing is said to be a "rapper"
      • reosarevok
Actually, for what I've seen, the English wiki tries to use "entertainer" rather than "rapper" for disambiguation
      • Probably because of it being controversial and ill-defined
      • CatCat
but when peopel are al like "it's gtime! it'a not rap! it's as saying I'ts power metal! not "hard rock"!!
      • or whatever
      • what is rap?
      • rythm
      • SultS
reosarevok, couldn’t rap be considered as a broader term of some of these?
      • CatCat
if we can answer the name of "what is rap" thewn we have the answer
      • SultS: yes! like "rock" and "metal"
      • rock is also an umbrella for metal
      • what about whistling... that's pretty unambiguous
      • or is it totally biguous?
      • :P
      • reosarevok
SultS: it "could", but it would feel similarly as when people call every electronic music "techno"
      • SultS
        who does *that*? :P
      • CatCat
        I do .P
      • reosarevok
In Spain at least, 90% of people who don't listen to it
      • SultS
        o.O
      • I would’ve guessed trance or club
      • CatCat
        club is a place :P
      • reosarevok
techno was the most popular style there in the whole 90s
      • CatCat
        i think everywhere
      • reosarevok
So it's the thing they associate to anythign electronic
      • CatCat
something also with "metal" and "rock" or.. hey "classical"
      • reosarevok
CatCat: nah, I think trance was actually more popular in a lot of Europe
      • CatCat
        classical is a period actually
      • trance =/= techno
      • I wouldn't know that
      • reosarevok
The problem is that "rap" is pretty much an ill-defined style, kinda similar to adding "growling"
      • CatCat
        rave, trance, techno, etch etc
      • oh yea and "house" for soem reason
      • reosarevok
I mean, I do have albums with vocals credited as "growling" and "shrieking"
      • CatCat
reosarevok: then thos shoudl be loowed
      • now since chuck billy isn't credited as "grwoling" then it's "vocals " for him
      • i ahve no problem with that
      • we cansimply state that this "assinine" way of doing it is to simply make it clear that we aren't dealign with oppinion but "facts"
      • so if it's credited as "x" it's x
      • SultS
reosarevok, but wouldn’t it make sense to you add “rap” in the same style as “lead”, as in having more specific options?
      • nikki notes that discogs has rap as a credit :/
      • CatCat
man, we can't be worse than discogs
      • reosarevok
I am not sure, for the reason stated
      • "lead" exists as compared with a "background" - it's a different kind of categorisation
