The list that is there now on Picard 1.0 looks like it was stuck in there at the last minute. There doesn't look like there is any border on it separating the text box from the status bar
      • 2012-06-26 17853, 2012

      • reosarevok
kyomi: the list that is there now is much more powerful *but* it's less clear, too
      • 2012-06-26 17811, 2012

      • reosarevok
So yeah, I think the plan for the next version is to have both options as "simple" and "advanced" interfaces
      • 2012-06-26 17814, 2012

      • kyomi
I like the new drag and drop cover art deal, but the new tag viewing "window" is just awful. I have to scroll around or make the bottom section huge to see everything
      • 2012-06-26 17816, 2012

      • kyomi
It shows *alot* more info, but I don't need to see it. I first was looking for options to edit the tags that are displayed so that I could see all the info on one "page" without having to scroll
      • 2012-06-26 17842, 2012

      • reosarevok
        Yeah
      • 2012-06-26 17808, 2012

      • reosarevok
the thing is the people who use Picard while in development *do* use the whole list
      • 2012-06-26 17811, 2012

      • kyomi
I've noticed the tag lookup seems to be alot slower now too. I either have to wait around 5 minutes for it to find *three* songs or I have to tell it to "Lookup" in the unmatched folder section
      • 2012-06-26 17828, 2012

      • reosarevok
So nobody seemed to realise it was overkill for normal users :)
      • 2012-06-26 17849, 2012

      • reosarevok
As I said, plans are to change it in the next version - I think it can't be done now though
      • 2012-06-26 17853, 2012

      • kyomi
I'm not saying to remove it just because *I* don't use it, I know thats pretty silly. As you suggested, I'm in favor of an option :)
      • 2012-06-26 17803, 2012

      • reosarevok
hmm, the lookup thing seems weird
      • 2012-06-26 17806, 2012

      • reosarevok
        Are you using scan?
      • 2012-06-26 17810, 2012

      • kyomi
        No
      • 2012-06-26 17814, 2012

      • kyomi
        I haven't enabled it
      • 2012-06-26 17826, 2012

      • reosarevok
        Hmm
      • 2012-06-26 17836, 2012

      • reosarevok
Then it shouldn't take longer than before...
      • 2012-06-26 17847, 2012

      • reosarevok
(I use Picard in Windows and haven't noticed any changes)
      • 2012-06-26 17851, 2012

      • kyomi
It doesn't when *I* tell it to lookup
      • 2012-06-26 17838, 2012

      • kyomi
But when I drag folders from the far left window to the "sorting window" (the one with the "Unmatched Files" folder), I have it set to automatically look up
      • 2012-06-26 17847, 2012

      • kyomi
And that is what takes awhile
      • 2012-06-26 17805, 2012

      • kyomi
It's always been hit or miss for me on how fast it is
      • 2012-06-26 17817, 2012

      • reosarevok
        Hmm
      • 2012-06-26 17820, 2012

      • reosarevok
        No idea
      • 2012-06-26 17841, 2012

      • reosarevok
Unless it auto-scans with amplifind (which is slow because their servers are dying) it shouldn't matter
      • 2012-06-26 17842, 2012

      • kyomi
*BUT* It's only on the automatically scan bit
      • 2012-06-26 17811, 2012

      • kyomi
It should be looking up by PUID because I left the enable scan option disabled

      • kyomi
Ugh... I'm hating this new view. I'm so used to just glancing down at the right section to make sure everything is in order. I keep looking at white space and having to scroll to find it :/
      • 2012-06-26 17851, 2012

      • kyomi
I'll deal with it until there is an option to change it though.. because that drag and drop cover art thing makes me very happy
      • 2012-06-26 17807, 2012

      • kyomi
If it doesn't find one, drag and drop... done :)
      • 2012-06-26 17808, 2012

      • reosarevok
kyomi: PUID is what is slow as hell because the servers are dying :p
      • 2012-06-26 17822, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
there's also a patch to reorder the tagdiff thing
      • 2012-06-26 17826, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
        IIRC
      • 2012-06-26 17831, 2012

      • kyomi
Ok, what do you recommend I switch it to?
      • 2012-06-26 17839, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
acoustid, that's the only other option
      • 2012-06-26 17858, 2012

      • kyomi
I was under the impression that PUID was a Musicbrainz thing
      • 2012-06-26 17814, 2012

      • kyomi
Which is why I just told it to use that
      • 2012-06-26 17838, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
neither is really run by musicbrainz -- acoustid, however, actually works
      • 2012-06-26 17855, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
and it's written by luks, who as you can see hangs out here -- he's a frequent musicbrainz-server contributor and one of the original picard authors
      • 2012-06-26 17809, 2012

      • kyomi
Is that under the Fingerprinting option? I tried looking in the documentation, but that option wasn't covered
      • 2012-06-26 17811, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
PUID was done by a company (now out of business) that musicbrainz had a business agreement with
      • 2012-06-26 17815, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
        yeah, it's in there
      • 2012-06-26 17842, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
I forget if 1.0 shipped with fpcalc (the acoustid fingerprint calculator), but you just need to point it to that
      • 2012-06-26 17858, 2012

      • kyomi
Yeah, it automatically pointed to fpcalc.exe
      • 2012-06-26 17807, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
        cool

      • 2012-06-26 17820, 2012

that should be all you need, then, unless you want to submit fingerprints back to acoustid
      • 2012-06-26 17841, 2012

      • kyomi
        That would be helpful, right?
      • 2012-06-26 17841, 2012

      • pankkake
acoustids are so much better… by the way this reminds me of the switch from the thing we had before PUIDs :p
      • 2012-06-26 17854, 2012

      • kyomi

if you want to do that, go to acoustid.org and log in with your musicbrainz credentials, and you'll get an API key to enter
      • 2012-06-26 17819, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
yeah, I hear TRMs were even worse than PUIDs, heh
      • 2012-06-26 17832, 2012

      • pankkake
ah yes, TRM, I forgot the name
      • 2012-06-26 17833, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
I wasn't around when we had TRMs though, so that seems amazing to me
      • 2012-06-26 17840, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
given how bad PUIDs are :P
      • 2012-06-26 17843, 2012

      • kyomi
Oh, I already did that ianmcorvidae. I thought that was required
      • 2012-06-26 17848, 2012

      • pankkake
and the old tagging client that didn't know what an album was! *nostalgia*
      • 2012-06-26 17849, 2012

      • kyomi
At least it looked like that in the options
      • 2012-06-26 17859, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
kyomi: only for submitting fingerprints -- the options probably aren't very clear, heh
      • 2012-06-26 17805, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
just for scanning you don't need it
      • 2012-06-26 17811, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
but hey, better to contribute back when you can anyway, right? :)
      • 2012-06-26 17827, 2012

      • kyomi
Soo.. can I pick your brain about one more undocumented (as of yet) option?
      • 2012-06-26 17835, 2012

      • kyomi
        And, yes :)
      • 2012-06-26 17851, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
sure, no guarantees I'll know what it is though :)
      • 2012-06-26 17807, 2012

      • kyomi
I couldn't organize my music without it... before I was taking entire weekends to get things straight... and now it's like *maybe* and hour :)
      • 2012-06-26 17820, 2012

      • pankkake
there's also http://acoustid.org/fingerprinter to submit a lot of acoustids in one go
      • 2012-06-26 17832, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
yeah, for already-tagged things that works
      • 2012-06-26 17800, 2012

      • kyomi
"Ignore MBIDs when loading new files" -> I'm not quite sure what this means... but I'm guessing it's for re-tagging
      • 2012-06-26 17804, 2012

      • pankkake
it seem to submit even my untagged stuff, but I don't know what it becomes after
      • 2012-06-26 17835, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
pankkake: it presumably just submits the metadata; it can also find PUIDs if you have them
      • 2012-06-26 17842, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
acoustid keeps track of PUIDs too, heh
      • 2012-06-26 17856, 2012

      • kyomi
PUID just reminds me of that CGI show ReBoot :)
      • 2012-06-26 17858, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
but ultimately acoustid is about mapping acoustids to musicbrainz recordings, so
      • 2012-06-26 17800, 2012

      • pankkake
I saw that, it's actually helpful sometimes
      • 2012-06-26 17830, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
and yeah, kyomi, that's pretty much for re-tagging; it's saying if there's already MBIDs tagged to the files it'll act as though they aren't there
      • 2012-06-26 17837, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
i.e. it'll put it into the left pane rather than the right
      • 2012-06-26 17845, 2012

      • kyomi
        Ahh ok, cool
      • 2012-06-26 17850, 2012

      • kyomi
        Thanks alot :)
      • 2012-06-26 17801, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
normally when there's MBIDs it'll load it straight into the right panel into the relevant release, so :)
      • 2012-06-26 17811, 2012

      • kyomi
Now we just need an option to go back to "simple" view and it'll all be sorted for me :)
      • 2012-06-26 17859, 2012

      • kyomi
I so *LOVE* the drag and drop cover art thing... since I don't have to try and find some obscure link thats in an "approved" list, just to get cover art :)
      • 2012-06-26 17834, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
you can also upload things to the CAA, of course :)
      • 2012-06-26 17844, 2012

      • kyomi
        CAA? That exists now?
      • 2012-06-26 17849, 2012

      • kyomi
        Ooh, where? :)
      • 2012-06-26 17853, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
yeah, it's been around a while
      • 2012-06-26 17858, 2012

      • 2012-06-26 17841, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae notes that I'm the one who wrote the /statistics/timeline stuff last summer :P
      • 2012-06-26 17816, 2012

      • kyomi notes how awesome ianmcorvidae is.
      • 2012-06-26 17830, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
but yeah, looks like 2% of our releases (20,000 or so) have cover art, with a bit more than 40k pieces of cover art overall
      • 2012-06-26 17846, 2012

      • kyomi

      • 2012-06-26 17832, 2012

      • kyomi
Oh wow.. changing it to AcoustID has put it on crack
      • 2012-06-26 17843, 2012

      • ianmcorvidae
