nikki
hmm... welche version von picard?
warp
Mint 14 is based on Ubuntu 12.10, so I would guess the same version Ubuntu ships in 12.10.
Krystof: What does "Juillet a Tahiti" mean? "Juillet of/from Tahiti"?
Krystof
in
July in Tahiti
well, assuming that it's à Tahiti
Freso
Ah.
Krystof
otherwise it means "July has Tahiti"
Freso
It might be! :D
There's no accents on the cover,
Krystof
wow, the power of procrastination. I'm meant to be writing exams; instead I'm speculatively translating French titles on IRC
Freso
But then, there are *no* accents on the cover.
nikki
it is all caps?
reosarevok
Krystof: so you'll write them in a hurry and annoyed and be cruel? :p
Freso
Wait, no, there's one.
Krystof
conventionally in French, you don't put accents on capitals
if this is Dream Island and the Amazon listings are accurate (hah), the A is capitalised
nikki
I thought that was jsut because they can't type them
Krystof
it can be a historically-contingent convention
reosarevok
Dunno. There was a time when Spanish kids were taught not do put accents on capitals either
Krystof
now you're going to distract me from my exams to make me find out when the Académie documented the rule
reosarevok
But I'm not sure if it was a real *rule*, or more that teachers saw it wasn't printed and assumed that was the case :p
Freso
Krystof: Does "D.P." mean anything specific? Domain publique?
reosarevok
(at some point the academy was like "meh, this is silly. CAPITALS WITH ACCENTS, guys!"
)
nikki
ooh. I managed to install 1.0 and it really is a mess. the 1.1 ppa works fine as far as I can tell, but I'm still too late >_<
Krystof
reosarevok: yeah, france too. "On ne peut que déplorer que l'usage des accents sur les majuscules soit flottant."
Freso: no idea, I just play a Frenchman on the Internet
context?
(I am a French native speaker, but I have lived in Francophone countries for about a total of 8 weeks. YMMV, etc)
Freso
Krystof: It is. :) E.g., "Kava, Aparima vava (Trad) D.P." - Kava is the title, "Aparima vava" seems to be the song/tune type, Trad. is the composer/writer, "D.P." seems to be the copyright notice (e.g., "SACEM P.1986" on the first track).
Krystof
I've never seen it before, sorry
Freso
Krystof: The "D.P." only seems to appear on trad. tunes/songs, hence why I figure it may mean public domain. :)
(Also, the cover art on Amazon is wrong - don't upload it.)

adhawkins: "derp.co.uk" or was it.
adhawkins
Ah ok. That's not mine, just one I found for googling an image pastebin
CatCat
aha
nikki is pondering proposing something like http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/User:Nikki/Compilation_Relationship_Type (the recording stuff already exists, the release group stuff is what I would be proposing)
Freso
reoafk: Do you know if there's a way to tell worldcat that they have several entities for the same thing?
nikki
I basically want a relationship for saying something like "foo and bar were in this boxset" :P
CatCat
nikki: the latter, very much
i agree
i wish we had a better way of doing it
but yes, a relationship the very least
i mean we did this for discs of a release earlier
before ngs
Freso
Yeah.
nikki
and since the compilation relationship is basically "recording foo / bar is recording foo and recording bar", then it makes sense to use the same thing for "release group foo / bar is release group foo and release group bar"
Freso
Once we get boxset support proper, relationships like that will help the transition.
nikki
Freso: well, I don't have a problem with them being separate release groups, I just want links between them :P
CatCat
Freso / nikki: at the very least links between them yea
nikki
and I wouldn't want release groups for boxsets to vanish, I'd rather have a boxset release group type
CatCat nods
CatCat
and and oh god, some sort of edit to split discs up into several releases, especially for releases that were incorrectly merged in ngs
a reverse merge
hmm
if we had that, merges (that didn't smelt together discs, just appended mediums) could be an auto edit too
hmm
Freso
CatCat: NES \o/
nikki
merges are still destructive though, even the append ones lose all the stuff like release name, release artist, barcode, country, etc
CatCat
i guess "merge" not smelt, but i am so used ot use the word "merge" for merge type dits that it doesn't mean "put togheter so you can't tell it was two distinct things before" to me anymore
lose all the stuff like release name, release artist, barcode, country, etc <-- this is a problem i think
Freso: yes
i don't know
Freso
Again, NES \o/
One of the features of NES will be allowing to undo merges.
CatCat
git or whatever. the idea of ahavign "editions" or "versions" were yo ucan pick and choose of changed history and have the bits that are correct/seen as most correct /whatever
i am startign to like this idea more and more
Freso
CatCat: What does git have to do with this? :p
nikki
NES is based on git
Freso
Nice.
CatCat
night199uk: haha, so i didn't remember completely wrong
erh
nikki:
wtf some other perosn with nitab
but when we implement nes, we *need* to also look at editing in general, be able to edit *just* a track, or *just* a title, or go i nand change only this disc title without havign to load the editor for editing everything
only load an editior for everything, whne one *wants* to edit everything
same with relationship editor
Freso
That isn't specifically tied to NES though.
CatCat
no, i am jsut saying
Freso
AFAIK.
CatCat
since edits and *doing edits* are linked after all
nikki thinks the problem is more that the release editor is just too damn slow in general
CatCat politely disagrees with nikki
it is definitly damn slow and that is a part of a problem
nikki
as opposed to impolitely? :P
CatCat
but i also think that beign able to just click "edit title" or "add release date" or whatever needs to be possible
nikki
but to do that you need hundreds of edit links everywhere
nikki doesn't really want to go back to that
CatCat
nikki: yes, because you're not just talkign aout of you ass, yo uactually know a lot about mb and it's inner workings
been here as much as me
nikki: then make it optinoal, sure no problem
nikki
I like the idea of clicking edit and editing stuff, I just dislike the sloooow implementation of it
heh, options...
CatCat
and I never saw a problem with "houndreds of edit links everywhere"
the contrary for me
kepstin-work wouldn't mind small discrete edit links everywhere, possibly using icons and only showing up on hover?
i miss them
ehm...
ok.. deprends on the implementation
ehrgeiz_ joined the channel
CatCat hates the idea of usign hover over only icon representations of text, but damn, is so missign the ability he'd settel for that :o
oh hey OT. was the "end of the year" thingy report published?
you know with like "the guy with most edits" and how many rels are there now wtc
etc*
hm, why is there two artist [no artist] and [nature sounds]?
