      • reosarevok thinks we had this for Chrome and fixed it, either it broke again or the fix never worked for Chromium

last time i tried to turn off every extension and every script, so i doubt it's caused by those

        heh
      • 2013-06-01 15230, 2013

      • reosarevok
Indeed it works fine in latest Chrome

So I guess the fix just never worked for Chromium

Are you on the latest version?

Chromium doesn't seem to be on our supported browsers list, so I doubt someone's going to work on that :/

i am not installing chromium, just extracting the zip file

      • 2013-06-01 15215, 2013

      • nikki
I assume chromium has some sort of development thing where you can edit the source?
      • 2013-06-01 15231, 2013

      • nikki
if so, you could try removing the <bdi> tags and seeing if it fixes it
      • 2013-06-01 15249, 2013

      • culinko
        hmm
      • 2013-06-01 15256, 2013

      • culinko
        it's fixed in newest chromium
      • 2013-06-01 15219, 2013

      • culinko
i don't see any bdi tags
      • 2013-06-01 15214, 2013

      • culinko
        oh nvm i see
      • 2013-06-01 15234, 2013

      • culinko
        it works
      • 2013-06-01 15208, 2013

      • culinko
i removed just first bdi tag
      • 2013-06-01 15215, 2013

      • culinko
and the line is showing ok
      • 2013-06-01 15228, 2013

      • culinko
interesting, when i remove the first bdi tags (recording name), it's showing okay. if i remove the second tags (first artist) or third tags (second artist), it's not showing the artists.
      • 2013-06-01 15228, 2013

      • culinko
what is exactly doing the <bdi> tag here?
      • 2013-06-01 15203, 2013

      • nikki
bdi isolates things from the surrounding context for the purpose of the bidi algorithm, so that if a title happens to contain right to left characters, the right-to-left-ness doesn't leak out
      • 2013-06-01 15216, 2013

      • nikki

      • 2013-06-01 15228, 2013

      • simukis_
nikki: does it work fine with IE, Opera or Safari (esp. it)?
      • 2013-06-01 15239, 2013

      • nikki
        they just ignore the tag
      • 2013-06-01 15219, 2013

      • simukis_
oh, ok then… well then it's simply a buggy implementation on chrome(ium) side in that version and possibly all versions preceeding that version.
      • 2013-06-01 15231, 2013

      • simukis_
        happens one in a while.
      • 2013-06-01 15238, 2013

      • nikki
yeah, it's definitely a bug, it's to do with whitespace
      • 2013-06-01 15241, 2013

      • nikki
        which is crazy
      • 2013-06-01 15216, 2013

      • nikki
I linked a minimal thing for reproducing it on http://tickets.musicbrainz.org/browse/MBS-5625
      • 2013-06-01 15239, 2013

      • culinko
so if it's whitespace in <bdi> tag, it's all messed up?
      • 2013-06-01 15244, 2013

      • nikki
        nope

      • 2013-06-01 15235, 2013

      • culinko
        newest stable is 29.0.1526.0 (203594)
      • 2013-06-01 15203, 2013

      • culinko
i would prefer resolving the issue without updating the browser:)
      • 2013-06-01 15225, 2013

      • simukis_
hmm, I don't think MB (or any other website) would support browser version with less than 1% usage (thanks to chrome auto-update mechanism)…

culinko: Well 24th version was released half a year ago...
      • 2013-06-01 15203, 2013

and it's a bug in chrome/chromium, which they've apparently since fixed
      • 2013-06-01 15221, 2013

      • 2013-06-01 15249, 2013

for web and browsers it is.

culinko: oh, don't get me started 😃
      • 2013-06-01 15235, 2013

      • nikki
I imagine a user script to just remove all the bdi tags on the page would probably work, but I don't think I have anything I can test with
      • 2013-06-01 15245, 2013

      • culinko
i don't have time for reinstalling and reconfiguring extensions all the time
      • 2013-06-01 15206, 2013

      • culinko
and the new version of chromium is just bad
      • 2013-06-01 15219, 2013

      • culinko
so i don't have a reason to upgrade
      • 2013-06-01 15223, 2013

      • nikki shrugs
      • 2013-06-01 15236, 2013

nikki: that is indeed a good idea:)
      • 2013-06-01 15254, 2013

      • nikki
oh, you mean why you don't upgrade
      • 2013-06-01 15202, 2013

      • nikki
I thought you were complaining about the idea of a user script :P

      • culinko
        nah
      • 2013-06-01 15246, 2013

      • culinko
if the new versions of chromium were just performance fixes, bug fixes and so on, i won't have anything against upgrading
      • 2013-06-01 15218, 2013

      • culinko
but changing the visuals is sad
      • 2013-06-01 15235, 2013

      • culinko
time for a browser change soon i suppose:)
      • 2013-06-01 15251, 2013

      • simukis_
culinko: Chrome(ium) is known for not breaking extension API between versions. I don't even have an idea why would you need to reconfigure your extensions after upgrade… As for new version being not to your liking I have nothing to say as it is only a matter of preference (I myself moved to firefox before the winter myself).

      • 2013-06-01 15208, 2013

I suspect that because you said 29 being most recent stable version while stable channel is 27.* only.

      • culinko
        hmm

oh it's called "continuous build" and "snapshot build"
      • 2013-06-01 15229, 2013

      • culinko
        thought it's stable and beta
      • 2013-06-01 15217, 2013

      • simukis_
continuous probably does mean daily/nightly ones (even more unstable dev) while snapshot would probably be dev…
      • 2013-06-01 15258, 2013

      • culinko
yeah, it probably is dev build
      • 2013-06-01 15229, 2013
