the issue is that we're missing a lot of the info required to implement that right now

we have a lot of duplicate recordings, a lot of recordings linked to no works, etc.

Take Akon - Locked Up for instance, I have AcoustID http://acoustid.org/track/8489e380-ba01-4362-ae... which directs Picard to the album/release http://musicbrainz.org/release/875af056-6d66-45... where I think it should go to the artists recordings page and search through for the earliest date with the recording of the same name to come to the conclusion of 2204/05

which will take a bit of the workload off at least. I'm still unsure about merging so leaving that for now (bar a couple of obvious ones)

Not sure about the first part, but the second: no, Picard cannot use this info for original date.

It does make it more visible in that you can have information about composer/lyricist

and gives a central point for all recordings of that song.

Until recently, that information would have just been inaccurate anyway, so there wasn’t any real reason to do it

the Jaikoz tagger seems to do some of this searching backwards in time though for that recording...?
