CatQuest: about the angry inch thing. I have seen advertisements for that on the streets and also thought it was an artist name.

CatQuest
it's like spinal tab etc
2013-08-11 22337, 2013
CatQuest
don't we have fixed that in MusicBrainz with the Ar tothe right composers?
2013-08-11 22327, 2013
CatQuest
no we haven't
2013-08-11 22330, 2013
CatQuest
hmmmmmmm
2013-08-11 22353, 2013
CatQuest
that really should be fixed. can we talk about it here and get a consencus
2013-08-11 22342, 2013
CatQuest
I really think this should follow the rightthing
2013-08-11 22352, 2013
CatQuest
i mean for classical we even now follow the cover who is credited

Well, if there is an artist touring with that name. It is a valid artist name. I am not completely sure though if I remember the advertisement correctly. Possibly this really wasn't advertised as the name of an artist.

and the argument (or so it went) was that soundtracks were "pseudo-classical-style" so it went to composer (initially it was composer-lyrecists comboes so initially hair was under 3 guys) but it should be moved (with AR's and artist credits where appropriate) to credited right
i see this no different than spinal tap or Dethklok

gorlliaz ffs
2013-08-11 22339, 2013

cast should (ugh?) be under the linked thing. this is why moulin rouge is under performers not the composers or Baz luhrman (arranger)
2013-08-11 22323, 2013
CatQuest
thing like "angry inch" could possibly be under traks still if it has his name on it but I don't know this

CatQuest
I want to make these edits ages ago bt i didn't because hornest nests

i won't make nay edits before a consensus is made

CallerNo6 is looking through the chatlogs, but doesn't understand (yet) the angry inch question
2013-08-11 22320, 2013
CatQuest
move them to the thing they're actually credited as (Hedwig and the Angry Inch) "fictional" in-universe artist
2013-08-11 22354, 2013
CallerNo6
ah, got it
2013-08-11 22334, 2013
CallerNo6
but spinal tap isn't fictional! i saw them perform. unless, hmm, was the not a musical performance? maybe it was a theater performance that had a fictional band in it. damn. maybe i was part of a fictional audience.

CallerNo6 looks for covers showing how the releases are actually credited
2013-08-11 22344, 2013
CallerNo6
I mean, spinal tap releases are credited as if the band exists. Doesn't that make a difference? I wouldn't expect to see tracks on http://musicbrainz.org/release/4e6da9ac-325a-36f6… credited to the in-film fictional composers unless the release is actually presented that way. (in this case, it's hard to tell)

CallerNo6
I'm sure this has been argued and re-argued many times. I was probably asleep that day.

there is like a korean or something band that's actually made up of bal joint dolls

CatQuest
blup?
2013-08-11 22320, 2013
CallerNo6
oops. What I'm asking is, at what point do we decide to credit (or not credit) fictional artists?
2013-08-11 22340, 2013
CallerNo6
Is it based on how the release(s) is/are credited?
2013-08-11 22320, 2013
CatQuest
imho if it's a fictional *music* then we credit them, if its just fictional, we do not (example i disagree with crediting muppets, but the actual muppet band and it's members I am fine with)
2013-08-11 22344, 2013
CatQuest
it's a distinction that is a pit gradient and maybe arbitrary but we ar *music* brainz

snartal
Seems its fictional if the real person behind the character is not credited to the releases or tracks.
hmm, but (atleast in the west, and olderwize) it is more common to assign it to the cartoon/thingy whatever that people knew, since "voiceacting" wasn't really a high prestige thing untila few years ago
2013-08-11 22358, 2013
CatQuest
where as in the east in asia whole "voiceacting" is a way to fme in its own right
CatQuest: about the 2005 edit you linked to above, too funny: "once Advanced Relationships comes along this whole mess will be much easier to take care of"
