Is the editor Alfg here under a different name?
      • nikki
        not that I'm aware of
      • snartal
        Thanks nikki
      • Do you ever sleep?

        I get that a lot :P

        Jon Bon Jovi
      • 1. The guidelines are not crystal clear
      • 2. Unsuppored/undocumented info is easily accepted ..., and then burden of proof to change it is on the editor.
      • 3. To do it propery, you have to research if its their birth name... which takes too much time.
      • 4. Nobody wants Jon Bon Jovi solo albums sorted under "J", while Bon Jovi the group is sorted under "B"
      • 5. Most stuff, including what I am doing, is moving away from sort order.

"Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Wiki On the Wiki Wiki Activity Random page Videos Photos Chat Top Content Characters Arcs Community Contribute Watchlist Random page Recent changes Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai Image Album Kokoro-Musubi" does look wrong :

      • reosarevok
        heh
      • Fair enough
      • flamingspinach
ton of cover art on pseudos, apparently some dupes, label relationships, etc.
      • reosarevok
Well, there's no guideline that says data shouldn't be added to pseudos
      • I know nikki was considering writing one, but right now, adding labels and cover art to them is perfectly allowed
      • flamingspinach
        oh
      • reosarevok
        A bit silly IMO
      • flamingspinach

heh, yeah, agreed, but no idea how
      • Well, in general it's mostly usable
      • But I don't think we have anything particularly decent for Japanese
      • I know nikki was doing some basic things, but

Anyone have any comments on http://musicbrainz.org/edit/23383840 ?
      • snartal
As a newbie, seems to me that track should be "Eyes Wide Shut"
      • kuno
hawke_1: this particular recording is different from the one on the soundtrack?
      • hawke_1
        kuno: Yes, it’s a cover.
      • reosarevok_
whether you remove the Eyes Wide Shut thing or not, I wouldn't rename the recording to the work name
      • kuno
hawke_1: is it licensed for this 100 greatest film themes release, or recorded for it?
      • hawke_1
kuno: Not sure. Silva Screen often features the City of Prague Philharmonic for their releases…it may not have been recorded for it, but…
      • kuno
hawke_1: if the recording is made for this release, it seems more accurate to retain the movie title in the recording.
      • hawke_1
kuno: It seems strange to me, to list a movie title that just happened to use some work.
      • kuno
if it is licensed, I can understand renaming it to something more generic once it is linked to the other releases on which the recording appears.
      • drsaunde joined the channel
      • hawke_1
Like, I wouldn’t ever call a recording “Beethoven - Symphony no. 9 (Ace Ventura Pet Detective)” just because it happened to be used there.
      • If it were the actual recording used in the film I could see it, at least it then has some relation to the film.
      • kuno
but this is recorded in a similar context
      • (in relation to a knock-off soundtrack greatest hits release)
      • snartal
The Allmusic link seems to agree with you, hawke_1
      • hawke_1
But as is, I think the release is just saying “Waltz from Jazz Suite, the piece that was featured in Eyes Wide Shut” — which is clearly more work-related than recording-related
      • kuno
it would be "the piece that was featured in Eyes Wide Shut" if it was licensed
      • now it is more "a knock-off recording of music from Eyes Wide Shut which just happens to be this piece"
      • CallerNo6
this is where I'd use my "context" argument. The "Eyes Wide Shut" part makes sense in the context of the tracklist, but is not needed outside it.
      • hawke_1
        +1
      • It definitely should be on the tracklist
      • I would actually just call it “Eyes Wide Shut” on the tracklist.
      • kuno
CallerNo6: but it seems wrong to ignore it on the recording if that context affected how the recording was done.
      • CallerNo6: there are many subtle and non-subtle ways in which a particular recording of a work can differ from other recordigs of that work.
      • CallerNo6: if this particular recording was performed specifically to be similar to the recording of the work which appears in Eyes Wide Shut, that is a fairly important aspect to the recording.
      • CallerNo6
kuno: I guess what I ask myself is, if this recording were included on another release (where film music wasn't the focus), would it include the film title still?
      • (but fair point, I can certainly see doing it as you suggest too)
      • snartal
Where is all that extra track title info coming from, anyway?
      • hawke_1
        Old soundtrack style, I think.

See, this is where as a newbie, start smacking my head against the desk, cause we just had a discussion that cover art overrules text on sites.
      • hawke_1
        :-D
      • snartal: It is useful to have the work titles in the tracks, because then you can relate them to works
      • rather than having to [re-]do the work of tracking down which specific song from the movie it is.
      • And before we had works at all, even more so.
      • snartal
Right, but same could be said for having the movie title there too.
      • CallerNo6
I wonder if there were more detailed liner notes that listed the works.
      • reosarevok__
If not I'd happily drop them from track titles
      • CallerNo6
I know not everybody agrees, but I think the back cover isn't the last word as far as tracklists go.
      • snartal
        Why not?
