Just made a little thing for my group at uni, which happens to be group 1 (of four).

did you want a romanization that would sound vaguely accurate if a non-Japanese speaker tried to sound it out based on English pronunciation rules?

Pfft. Not using Hepburn?
2013-09-01 24441, 2013
flamingspinach
hepburn is (nominally) the kind of romanization I just described
2013-09-01 24405, 2013
flamingspinach
personally I prefer a romanization scheme that's prioritized towards having a simple mapping between kana and latin digraphs

Fair enough. I tend to prefer Hepburn, since I'm more interested in something that's readable at a glance. I don't find that Kunrei-shiki or Nihon-shiki are that, for me.
2013-09-01 24439, 2013
flamingspinach
well, what do you mean by "readable"
2013-09-01 24438, 2013
Leftmost
I can interpret or pronounce it aloud without converting in my head.

I think you'll want to eventually get to a point where kana itself is the most readable form of japanese syllables

I took three years of Japanese at university. I just haven't used it in... ten years.

IMO if you still find hepburn more "readable" than other romanizations, you're thinking about japanese pronunciation in terms of English sounds rather than as points on the 五十音 table
2013-09-01 24421, 2013

I'm not sure that's true. I think differently about romanization and kana.

so my primary association with ro-mazi is the fact that I use it to type japanese

so maybe it's more closely related to kana in my mind (in that when I type ro-mazi kana appears on my screen)

Fair enough. I'm certainly not trying to sell you on what I do. :)
I don't agree that finding hepburn easier to read means you're still thinking about the pronunciation in terms of another language. any romanisation system has to be learnt, no matter how good/bad a fit it is for a particular language, so any you're not familiar with will be harder to read than one you are familiar with.

I mean, it's not like english's spelling is particularly well suited to english words, but if you rewrite english to use a more straightforward spelling system, it takes quite a bit of getting used to :P

i just found a release date for one release you were editing in the past. i don't think the release date was here before, or something like that
i'm wondering, is it possible to have multiple mb accounts registered on one mail, or is it against the rules?

well since you can't add artist subscriptions to folders and set them different options, like not to send it to mail, i was thinking about making another account, subscribing to all slovak artists and using reports with "Show only results that are in my subscribed entities." :P

I used to use one for getting emails about the things I actually cared about, but in the end I gave up, turned off the option to automatically subscribe me to artists I create, unsubscribed from loads of stuff and then never got round to dealing with the other accounts >_<

i was just thinking about subscribing with my main account, but i don't want to get mails everytime somebody merges a classical recording (which happens pretty much every day) :/
it should be possible to subscribe to multiple at a time if you generate the urls yourself

Old with / without date ones, and then silly things like "chamber orchestra" vs "orchestra", or "solo piano" vs "piano", or "performer" vs "guest performer", or dated May vs dated May 5
