        hey guys
      • where's the doc about the missing tables?
      • I couldn't find anything about tags, images and such things
      • let's say, metadata in general
      • and I loaded the datadump, but table tag for example is empty

Could someone please take a look at http://musicbrainz.org/release/47a1a8cd-3197-47... and point out where it doesn't satisfy CSG?
      • reosarevok
ryanakca: the only thing I can think of is the lack of " " around the opera lines
      • ryanakca: also please add the relationships only where they apply - not every singer sings on every track :)
      • ryanakca
reosarevok: Alas, I don't know Aida sufficiently well to know which character sings on which track. The sleeve only lists "Character / Singer / (soprano/bass/tenor/etc)". I'll try to see if there's a standardised listing of which character sings where.
      • reosarevok
        Hmm
      • The normal choice there would be adding them at the release level
      • But of course that wouldn't work too well once merged into the whole set :/
      • ryanakca
        *nod*
      • reosarevok
I mean, you can compare against a libretto (http://opera.stanford.edu/Verdi/Aida/libretto_i... for example) if willing to make the effort
      • ryanakca
So, titles in the tracklist should be, e.g., « Aida: Act III: "O patria mia" »?
      • Which is relatively labour intensive. I'll eventually get around to it, but not in the immediate future.
      • reosarevok
Yeah, ideally, but it seems fairly minor
      • ryanakca
Alright, thanks for taking a look. I was just curious because my edit received a note telling me to look at the CSG, which I thought I had been following.

a few days ago in this channel, I asked what people thought about using a stack overflow clone instead of [mb-style]. Now I'm wondering, if half the threads would be closed as "not constructive / not a good fit".
      • simukis_
      • reosarevok
        CallerNo6: most :p
      • simukis_: the disambiguation is not that uncommon in content
      • (the ALL CAPS form of it is, but :) )
      • kepstin-laptop wonders if jesus2099 had a hand in that, it's his style ;)
      • kepstin-laptop
        hmm, nope.
      • kepstin-laptop has been going around setting artists to type:character :)

      • nikki
CallerNo6: dunno about style but it'd be nice for replacing the wiki faqs and a lot of the forum threads (the "how do I ...?" sort, mainly)
      • CallerNo6
nikki: could be. But if it would only be useful for some things, of course, we'd be going from "too many channels" to "too many channels plus one".
      • nikki
        yes, that's the main downside
      • CallerNo6
grr. I still can't believe nobody has solved this problem.
      • SultS
wouldn’t it be same amount of channels?
      • reosarevok
Only if we close the wiki and/or the forum
      • SultS
with merging mb-style and part of the forum it shouldn’t
      • reosarevok
Oh, true, but that would only mean more people who think they can shout to get what they want get in style
      • So that might work once we change how style works :p

I feel like I should just leave
      • SultS
idk, I haven’t noticed a huge amount of activity in mb-style… at least not by huge amount of people
      • reosarevok
SultS: exactly, and it's already kinda toxic :p
      • SultS
well, maybe then the change is needed :P
      • reosarevok
Sure, but opening a toxic process to more people doesn't exactly help, so we should reform the process too

      • SultS
I don’t even know how it’s toxic, but I don’t follow everything that goes on over there
      • HibiscusKazeneko
I'm tempted to delete my account. Should I?
      • CallerNo6
reosarevok, the point of moving style (in my mind) to a stack overflow system is less shouting, more up/down-voting
      • reosarevok
CallerNo6: that would require moving from consensus to voting (which migth be a good change, but has to be decided)
      • HibiscusKazeneko: what happened?
      • HibiscusKazeneko
this whole mess with catalog numbers
      • and the whole translated work fiasco
      • reosarevok missed that
      • it was a couple of months ago
      • reosarevok
SultS: many things are decided by who shouts the loudest and takes longer to get tired about arguing
      • s/about/of/
      • CallerNo6
well, even if decisions weren't made by voting, arguments could be. to gauge support better than a mishmash of +/-1 posts
      • But (as usual) I'm just thinking out loud.
      • reosarevok
CallerNo6: *I* would be much happier with voting (or just discussion) + the people who actually implement stuff having the final say
      • But people might shout
      • SultS
I as a non‐active style user would be interested in that more
      • HibiscusKazeneko
      • there's more I'm still trying to dig up
      • CallerNo6
mess? fiasco? It might feel like that some times, but we're all on the same team more or less.
      • HibiscusKazeneko
      • it was a disaster
      • and it may actually be illegal in the US
      • I remember reading about some legislation Martha Wash pushed to pass after Milli Vanilli were outed
      • the laws made it mandatory to credit all vocalists, at the very least
      • eliasp joined the channel
      • CallerNo6: We're not on the same team. Hawke and I were ganged up on.
      • CallerNo6
It's okay to disagree. We still all want the same thing. A good, useable database. :-)
      • (at least, I hope so)
      • HibiscusKazeneko
It's no longer OK if people pass destructive measures behind everyone's back and then foist it on us.
      • I have a mountain of photographic and physical evidence showing that adding hyphens to post-1989 SMEJ releases is wrong.
      • As a matter of fact, I took inventory on all such CDs I own and none of them use hyphens in the catalog number.
      • But nooooooo, Yindesu and friends decided that wasn't good enough.
      • warp
that doesn't mean hyphens in the catalog number are wrong, it just means those CDs don't have them.
