the best way to deal with recent edits you messed up is almost always to cancel them :)

For compilations do I add that to various artists, and then credit the artists in the track listing?

If it's that kind of compilation, yeah. Featured artists can get listed independently, or if just one track or two has a different credit, you can still attribute the album as a whole to the main artists. It really depends :P
n1md4
hmm it's an album called chillout groove, with about 12 tracks, but only 3 or 4 different artists.

bitmap: the ones i used a lot are fast cancel and edit recording comments :) but for that last one i did 2 tweaks that i would have liked to PR you — i lost them but they were simple enough i could redo if you put on github
Wonder if the editor should have prevented the original edit?

n1md4: A lot of people here love when people add "obscure stuff". The more obscure, the better. :)

Mineo: I looked at the history for Happy Holidays 2013 by Dream Theater, I was somewhat amused to see you did a lot to it after I added it :P
then months later, you added MMMMMM and I did stuff to that :D
Mineo
well, at least we're even now :)

Please do stick around and ask whatever pops up.

I love doing all these edits, spent many an evening on various metadata sites, scanner, editing, searching ... all in the name of getting decent XBMC scraper results ;)
Freso
Heh.
I wish XBMC would start storing artists by their MBID instead of by name.
One artist can go by several names, and one name can "belong" to several artists. Not to mention when something is by "Artist A & Artist B" etc.

19:24 < Freso> I wish XBMC would start storing artists by their MBID instead of by name.
+9001, if I had someone to pay to do that change I would
Freso
Yeah. That's like my main issue with XBMC at the moment.
derwin has actually patched xbmc in the past, heh
n1md4
yes, there I have a number of issues when scraping, and think an unambigious UID would be perfect! 100% success everytime; providing the metadata exists.
Freso
derwin: :)
I started writing an XBMC plugin once to sync up ratings between XBMC and ones MB profile, but I never got very far with it.
Was it warp who's been asking for something like this? I don't know. I still want to do it, but I only rarely find myself in a coding mood anymore.
n1md4: "providing the metadata exists" - yeah, we can't guarantee that every artist will be there (esp. these days will all the self-releases online etc.), so such a system would have to fall back on something else.
But MB does have a pretty good coverage of a large chunk of music, including non-"mainstream" stuff.
n1md4
There's the universal album / artist scaper that uses MBs API. I'm not 100% sure, it might even support MBID, it's more likely users don't have their collections tagged correctly, and to avoid the "your scraper is crap" sort comments, I guess it uses names too.
Freso
(And getting more applications to use it more, would give more incentive to more people to add more data, leading to even better coverage, etc.)
n1md4
I'll have to check. The dev who wrote that plugin is called Olympia (iirc)
So pleased these are all going in! Didn't like the idea of manually adding them all ... even if I am now, but this feels worthy!
Freso
n1md4: Yep. My main issue with that is the apparently most XBMC dev types seem to think that the data (entry) model behind TheTVdb (and thus, TheAudioDB) is state-of-the-art, meaning they'd probably prefer to just switch to TheAudioDB completely if they could.
Which irks me to no end. :p
n1md4
hah
I'm hybrid
mb seems far more technically correct
tvdb seems to have dictators running it
moviedb seems reasonable
derwin
movies are way easier to model than tv shows
Freso
Yeah. I like MovieDB. I probably like MovieDB more than TV or AudioDB combined. :p
derwin
and yes, you get terrible impression of thetvdb
n1md4
audiodb uses mb? audiodb being a bit more about the reviews and moods, styles etc ... could be wrong.
Freso
But MovieDB also seems like it has a more flexible data structure.
derwin
from the way they appear to arrive at broken consensus
Freso
You can add a lot of data about movies that you can't about e.g. TV shows on TVdb.
n1md4
moviedb does tv now too, so there should be a gradual shift
Freso
n1md4: Yeah. And AudioDB also does cover art, which is relatively new for MusicBrainz. However, MB currently has more releases with cover art than AudioDB has releases in all.
n1md4: And CritiqueBrainz will be the "review" site pendant for MB.
