jesus2099: what does "load plugins on demand" mean
jesus2099
CallerNo6: same but i was linking at the wrong release in the same RG :)
flamingspinach
and "purple theme"
btw I use the session manager extension, it works well
jesus2099
flamingspinach: it means i have a play button to click before it starts the flash or whatever plugins, (this is a setting that can be set for each site and/or globally, as other settings)
flamingspinach: pruple theme, lol
session manager is the one i have found and linked over there ?
flamingspinach: i was not sure if this extension was doing both the main/default/current session AND you can save/load any named session… ?
flamingspinach
yup
you can't edit named sessions without first loading them though, unfortunately
i.e. if you want to remove some tabs from a saved session, you must load the session, close the tabs, and re-save the session
jesus2099
same as opera… and is each session a simple plain text file that you can eventually edit ?
flamingspinach
session manager's files are giant json files yes
jesus2099
this way i could edit massive sessions
readable/editable ? or they stripped all spaces and returns ?
flamingspinach
don't remember, lemme check

thank you very much !
flamingspinach
but surely that can be handled within a text editor if that's your wish
jesus2099
thanks to you there is one “?” less in my table ;)
flamingspinach
it is compacted (no spaces or line breaks)
jesus2099
opera’s sessions are incredible, even history (back and forward) and scroll position are saved in that simple text file…
for each tab
flamingspinach
session manager does that too
jesus2099
yes yes yes, cool !
flamingspinach
also some form data I believe
but anyway you are a javascript wizard, I guess you also have the option to add some features to firefox extensions if they're slightly not good enough :)
jesus2099
someone should package 50×FFextensions into a something called “opera plugins for FF.zip”
wrting extensions must be huge work i guess, my scripts are quick wins only, not deep things… ;)
flamingspinach
maybe, I have no idea

flamingspinach: what is the shortcut key for paste and go in FF ? (when you have a URL in clipboard)
(ctrl+shift+v doesn’t make it)
flamingspinach
there isn't one in plain firefox afaik but vimperator/pentadactyl have "p"
now either i abandon editing labels or i create exactly what i want and try to ignore what happens with my new label
flamingspinach
since firefox is not a text editor, vimperator and pentadactyl are only superficially similar to vim
the main point is to create a modal interface to the browser, where you can use alphabet keys to perform operations instead of having them be wasted on sites which don't usually listen for that kind of input, and even if they do, use it for inconsistent purposes
jesus2099
i’m afraid of successions of keys vi/unix style… i prefer ctrl+this+that kind of shortcuts… anyway i’ll have to try them all
but i’m also afraid of extensions vs. genuine features… i have to go, thanks flamingspinach !

ive just added release 92d97229-d2a6-472f-b116-8515bba9252e
im not sure how to mark some of the tracks as live
CallerNo6
bkanuka: there are two possible answers
bkanuka
i might have just figured it out. im adding live to the disambiguation on the recording
CallerNo6
1. "live" is an attribute of the work-recording relationship. i.e. [this recording]<is a live recording of><this composition>
that's fine, but not one of the two I was thinking of :-)
2. if it's not clear in a tracklist, because there's a live version and a studio version, you can add "(live)" to the track title.
sorry to hit you with so much reading material :-/
bkanuka
ya, ive been reading around but this is actually my first edit and im having trouble actually finding the place where i put in *this* or *that*
flamingspinach
so is there some reason we still have "performs as" and "legal name" relationships other than the fact that we don't have AR credits
CallerNo6 thinks that mb-artists aren't very good representations of real-world-people, even with AR credits, but that's probably not the reason.
CallerNo6
er, that is, I think the current model (1 to n) is better than trying to cram everything into one mb-artist. I just wish I knew how to improve the integration.
flamingspinach
maybe we need something intermediate between ACs and artists, perhaps integrated with aliases
CallerNo6
The way I think of it, what's missing is an artist-group.
bkanuka
i just figured out what you meant by recording work relationshio
thanks
CallerNo6
bkanuka: oh, yeah, please ask as many questions as you like. somebody will always be around to answer eventually, if not right away.
bkanuka
another question: are individual tracks ever marked as remaster?
CallerNo6
I believe that's still in the works.
(track-level mastering info)
but if the entire release is a remaster, you can mark it as such.
bkanuka
that's the issue - it's not :)
CallerNo6
If you have information that doesn't really fit anywhere, you can always put it in the release annotation.
well, not just there. most entities (artists, labels et al) have annotation fields. those are meant to capture information that doesn't have a better place in the db.
(just facts, no copyrighted content)
bkanuka
i would have thought there would be a recording-recording relationship for live.
CallerNo6
that sort of works for modern pop, but doesn't work well at all for e.g. jazz.
that is, what studio recording do you link to for a tune that's been covered hundreds or thousands of times?
bkanuka
got it
CallerNo6
when works were implemented, it was a huge improvement
oh, pfft. jazz? The Beatles' 'Yesterday' is the most recorded song in history I guess?
bkanuka
actually my first thought was "dont call my music pop!"
is it odd that I put in edits and was pretty much instantly able to see them using a Python API?
if my edits were shit (which they're not!) they would have live right away
CallerNo6
where did you see this? picard is written in python if that's what you mean.
flamingspinach
some edits (usually ones which "add" information rather than "change" or "delete" information) show up instantly in the database
and are "undone" from the database if the edit gets voted down or canceled
other edits don't show up in the database until they've officially passed the voting period
As you can see the barcode number is gone, replaced with a second catalog number and an address.

hibiscuskazeneko, my house had BMG Direct Marketing years ago. I have a large number of their releases, and they were marketed directly to people's homes.
CallerNo6
yeah, that was one of those album-of-the-month "clubs" wasn't it?
Leftmost
Yeah.
CallerNo6
not a very exlcusive club to be in
Leftmost
No.
The idea was basically that they convinced you to sign up with a certain number of free CDs, then every month sent you a catalogue and a CD, which they charged you for. You could opt out of the CD by mailing something back to them.
Columbia House was the same principle and, in fact, later merged with BMG.
CallerNo6
sure. why else would i have bought zz top's eliminator? thanks columbia house!
Leftmost
We were pretty good about opting out of the monthly CD, though we did get some... gems when we forgot.
