are there any keywords for searching for a specific series type?
      • I'd have thought "type:catalogue" but that doesn't work.

        chirlu`: not me.
      • chirlu`: it finds lots of series which are not catalogues
      • oh, never mind
      • Fucking retarded "or" by default
      • chirlu`
        Ah.
      • hawke
because shitty search is better than good search, apparently.

oh. jeez, I'm dumb. all the times I've used "AND" in a query, and it didn't click that it would otherwise default to "OR"
      • bricas_
looking for some opinion here: http://musicbrainz.org/edit/31561619
      • I believe the edit clobbers the existing data

CallerNo6: yeah, I'm pretty sure that Musicbrainz's search is the only one ever that does that
      • (because it is a terrible idea)
      • CallerNo6
don't let the good be the enemy of the shitty!
      • or is it the other way around?
      • chirlu`
hawke: Since OR is the default for Lucene, I massively doubt it.
      • It would mean
      • *everyone* overrides the default, except the MB search server.
      • hawke
chirlu`: Name another search engine that ORs by default
      • chirlu`
        Google?
      • hawke
        Nope.
      • chirlu`
Admittedly it gives a warning then (“the following results did not contain all search terms”).
      • hawke
I mean I guess they kind of fall back to OR, but that's only if they can't find anything where all search times apply
      • *terms
      • chirlu`
The MB search ranks results containing all search terms higher, too.
      • So your “opera OR type:catalogue” first lists catalogues with “opera” in their name, before continuing with results that only match one.
      • hawke
sorry, but the idea that when I search for 'opera' and 'type:catalogue', I actually want *every single catalog series in MB* is just pure insanity
      • CallerNo6
I think most people, who are used to google-ish searches, would expect AND results followed by OR results.
      • chirlu`
And that’s exactly what you get.
      • The first results of the OR query are identical to “all results of the AND query”.
      • So I have difficulty to see why the default behaviour is fucking, retarded, shitty, and terrible.
      • CallerNo6
Right, so that's good. Like you said, a divider saying "below here, results for OR" would be nice.
      • chirlu`
        Oh, and insane. :-)
      • hawke
Except google is actually intelligent about its search results.
      • it doesn't give you every single page on the internet as a result for every single query
      • CallerNo6
Try playing with netflix's search, if you haven't. They so badly want to show you /something/ that I don't think it's possible to get a "0 results found".
      • Crap, I wish I'd saved some of my experiments. They were hilarious.

under which artist should a single track like https://soundcloud.com/zedd/diddy-ass-on-the-fl... be added? diddy or zedd?
      • zas
i would say Diddy, and add a relation remixed by Zedd
      • hopphopp
        ok, thank you
      • zas: should the main relation be “remixed” and then the sub relation “artist”?
      • zas
      • hopphopp
zaz: ok, i can only find artist -> remixER, not * -> remixED BY. Am I looking at the wrong place?

CatQuest: i have tested Firefox to bypass javascript image visualisers like lightbox… there is no equivalent for opera’s « right‑click, o » (you can use t or w instead but it’s less good) but « middle‑click » works the same !
      • btw i have just had a mac for my work and installed opera 12, what was the problem with it ? it seems as good as on pc, no ?

sort name question. for "Fred E. for the World" should that be "for the World, Fred E." as sort name?
      • reosarevok
        That's an artist or?
      • TheBikeGuitarist
World, Fred E. for the another possibility maybe strictly following guidelines
      • yes a person
      • drummer for R Band (a band I was in 1990s)
      • reosarevok
I mean, it's not really a name + surname I guess (unless his surname is For the World)
      • TheBikeGuitarist
        no it is not.
      • reosarevok
So I'd just have sortname be the same as name
      • TheBikeGuitarist
oh Fred E. for the World as sort name too?
      • reosarevok
        Yup
      • TheBikeGuitarist
okay, but for "The Amazing One" I entered "Amazing One, The" that is right, right?
      • ty for the help
      • oh wait one more please, the name of band is R Band. I put sort name of "Band, R" because is a pun on "our" which would be moved. But it maybe should be R Band sort name
      • reosarevok
        Yeah. Articles always sort last
      • TheBikeGuitarist
so would R Band become "Band, R" ?
      • reosarevok
When you're dealing with a person, Name + Surname, then sort is Surname, Name. But in other cases, it doesn't matter
      • I'd just do R Band :)
      • TheBikeGuitarist
so "R Band" as sort name is okay? YAY okay gonna go fix.
      • I hope I'm doing okay. Adding lotta stuff to "The Bicycling Guitarist" artist. If an editor is subscribed to my edits, then my stuff is being reviewed? If anyone has a minute to check my edits, I'd aprreciate feedback on how I'm doing or suggestions what to do next.

wish me luck, a producer on America's Got Talent is sponsoring me and submitted one of my videos for online audition. She says I'll know in a week or two whether or not they want to fly me to L.A. for celebrity judge round
      • with my bike and guitar of course
      • derwin
is howard stern still a judge?
      • rest assured, if my vote counts

I ran home today while using a hand gyro, which is a weirdly uh

and the earth and universe are part of the song
      • because any bumps I ride over contribute vibrato to the strings

all on the same bicycle, The Minstrel Cycle. Can that be part of my musicbrainz entry, that and Annie the Anniversary Model Stratocaster only guitar I've had since late 1980s?
