CatQuest doesn't see whats wrong with that telease. it was released. it's got the wrong artists, that's true
CatQuest
also probably bootleg with the inclusion of non-licensed game music.

CatQuest: That "release" looks like a fan-made compilation
kuno
hibiscuskazeneko: fan-made compilations belong in MB
hibiscuskazeneko
They do?
I was told otherwise
kuno
hibiscuskazeneko: https://musicbrainz.org/doc/Beginners_Guide says "While we welcome bootlegs, we discourage adding home-made compilations or mixtapes. These kinds of releases are not widely available and any information about them is typically only useful to the individual who created them. Releases such as these are usually removed from our database. "
hibiscuskazeneko
Exactly my point. These are basically mixtapes shared with the outside world.
kuno
but the shared with the outside world is an important aspect of it
the distinction is that if I make a compilation at home and share it with a few friends and family, only a few folks will have a copy of that "release", so it is not useful data for all the other musicbrainz users
but if someone takes the effort to make cover art for the release, put it on a website or forum or otherwise shares it to a larger community of hundreds or thousands of listeners -- then it is useful for that group of people to have it in the musicbrainz database
ofcourse where the cut-off point is is a bit difficult to determine, so use some common sense. In general though if it looks like the data could be useful to people, it's better to allow it. Those who don't have/listen to the release will not be harmed by having it in the database.

I experience a great deal of physical and psychological trauma for every release in the database for which I have no use.

CatQuest
the fac that you can download it right of that page means that it is indeed "released"
I use the definition "leased" (instead of usefullness since many releases aren't "useful" eg case in point those trolling releases) if it's been "released" to a wider populus it's been released and belong in mb
erh s/leased/released
also if it's *new* music, even if the "releasing" part is really limited. if whats in it is something that was "unreleased" anywhere else I'd recon it's useful (heh) and i'd add it
"I'm totally blown away by the Baron's compilation. It's so professionally executed with superb selections and track manipulations never used before on Infite Game Music. He's made an awesome job reviving tracks from really old games like Balloon Fight and Excite Bike seamlessly mixing them with newer ones"
This is why it's best to have actual human beings add data… we can do quality control
Nyanko-sensei
at least can edit stuff after it added it
just the sloppyness of adding extra recordings/groups
semi-automated would be the best though
hibiscuskazeneko
The problem with that is that machines can move much faster than we can. The instant it starts auto-pulling data, it'll outpace the humans who clean up after it and leave a mess in its wake.
That's why I spent 3-4 months tagging all the artists for which Likedis Auto added data.
Nyanko-sensei
I edit mostly the stuff that is in my collection. needless to say it's a huge one (questioning myself whether I will ever listen to everything in it)
hibiscuskazeneko still has yet to listen to a good portion of her music collection as well
hibiscuskazeneko
if only I had a working turntable...
Nyanko-sensei
I use iTunes. ripped almost everything
CatQuest
i thought the likeds bot was banned for making to much mess?
Nyanko-sensei
it was, but the aftermath is still there
CatQuest
its not following code of botduct is it?
oh
hibiscuskazeneko
There's a code of botduct?
CatQuest
you get yes votes from me atleast :D
hibiscuskazeneko
and me
Nyanko-sensei
thanks a lot ^^
hibiscuskazeneko
no problem
it's what I'm here for
[side note] I'm watching Dog the Bounty Hunter now, and now a certain song is stuck in my head
(it's not the show's theme song)
Nyanko-sensei
I discovered noisemaker and now am stuck on their youtube playlist
Sometime, I end up on the main server somehow... so many tabs opened
:)
CatQuest
ugh I'm going ot just stop looking at open edits on [unknown] it's just too depressing. so many edits *not* moving stuff away from [unknown] but adding shit or linking shit. most of those eits don't actually "fix" [unknown] data
Lotheric is wondering why Various Artists is not [various artists]
