I would use it for a bunch of trad. tunes, but I don't think it's a viable long-term/"endgame" solution.

(I generally think the Work type field is too limited in its current form in general, and adding a "tune" type might introduce some unwanted legacy further down the road when the single-value "type" is deprecated/replaced by a multi-value one.)

(I'd rather mark a reel as a reel than a "tune", but I would mark it as a tune if that was the only option right now.)

no, Freso thought it would be good to be here since I want to start tagging my CDs (mainly acappella) for musicbrainz, I guess with picard

Rince: I personally first tag rips with Picard and then feed them to beets after that.

It doesn't have to be either-or. :)

Hmm, if an album doesn't exist in musicbrainz, I can not add it via picard, right?

I have to first add it in musicbrainz manually, then assign my files to it

yes, typically the easiest way with mainstreamish music is to import via an importer from discogs or itunes or beatport or etc.

oh, I don't know specifically about picard

beets can tag files "as is" with existing tags. but that's not usually what you want.
