I've tried on multiple servers, and it happens on all of them.
Changing directories works fine, but using 'dir' makes it hang

i'm an avid open data contributor, and i'd like to contribute to musicbrainz. the website requires users to solve a google captcha. google makes its profit through surveillance capitalism: tracking the behaviour of users to build a profile on them. this is something i resist. as such i will unfortunately not be contributing to musicbrainz. i wanted to let you know.

M1dgard: last time a user had an issue like that, they wrote to support, and I created an account for them and then they changed the password
If that works for you, we can do that

(we'd love not to have a captcha of any sort, but sadly we're constantly getting spam accounts *even* with the captcha, without it it was around 8 times worse if I remember the amounts correctly, so we need something there :) )
If it works for you feel free to either PM me here or write to support

reosarevok: thank you. i can understand the need for protection against spammers too of course

M1dgard: Implementing a custom captcha is already under discussion, see ticket MEB-68.
jwf: only works for popular mainstream music, though.
Freso
M1dgard: FWIW, the rate of new accounts to mb.o went from ~1000/day to ~100/day after implementing that captcha, and even then, most of those ~100/day are probably still spam accounts AFAICT.
So you may not like the big G, but it's "the lesser of the evils" here. :(

What music file is this? That's the £500.000 question!

bitmap: Hi, I was looking for some help on https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-9827 for Google Code-In, and was told you might be able to help. I'm trying to find the right place in the code to make the redirect, but i'm not sure where it should go. So far, I've made a redirect through the meta tag in the root/layout/Head.js file, but I realise that a 301 redirect would be more effective. I'm currently thinking of
putting it in the lib/MusicBrainz/Server/Controller/Artist.pm file--would this be a sensible thing to do? Thanks :)

M1dgard: as such an avid google hater, your will surely be pleased to hear that musicbrainz (and the metabrainz foundation) are an active partner in such activities as google-code-in and google-summer-of-code

google do many good things too. they want to be seen as a friendly company. but i'm okay with using their good stuff while fighting the bad. can't fight the whole world at once anyway...
if that makes sense
SothoTalKer
maybe a manual registration would be the thing to go for ;)
provide email and some username, solve some equation and the mods will create the account for you within 24 hours :>
