"Having a centralized database and set standards for music metadata — Jackson’s idea of an IMDb for music — sounds like a straightforward goal, but getting there has stumped many of music’s largest and most powerful entities for decades. "

If only all the music companies would dump their catalogs then people can build databases. I've just picked up 2600+ CDs and maybe half of them with barcodes are not found. This makes me sad because I have to do a lot of manual entry.

Yeah but I find some of their data can be hit or miss. I find musicbrainz to be much more comprehensive. Plus, I can run my own local mirror so I can hit 1000 queries without having to worry about flood control or anything.

I have written a perl script that'll use a barcode scanner on my phone which will paste the barcode into my shell and then look it up, if there's a result add to a file that I'll use as a datbase import. I can go back and fix things in musicbrainz as I come across them. It'll also look up typed or scanned D numbers (the EMI music club or whatever) and typed catalog numbers.
2019-12-27 36137, 2019

but even then I still have stacks that can't be found and will have to be searched manually.

Maybe I can try a discogs barcode lookup to get the artist and release, then look that up on musicbrainz.

reosarevok: I have been trying to find a Release with as-good-or-better relationships and general amount of data on it exactly to replace it. I didn’t find a good candidate yet though. :(
looks like the actual track credits are all over the place too, which IMHO further supports the circle name as artist + people tagged in specific roles model
2019-12-27 36113, 2019
Yaniel
so Vocis Helix
2019-12-27 36117, 2019
FichteFoll
it looks to be a circle specifically for the collab, though
2019-12-27 36131, 2019

artist credits for the tracks will be the same as for the release
2019-12-27 36140, 2019

they might have mean choir vocals to begin with
2019-12-27 36118, 2019

let me listen to it real quick; maybe it also qualifies as "lead"
2019-12-27 36138, 2019
