uhm. it shouldn't be a goal to have 1000 or more no vote chaban.
chaban
Can't do anything about it. Maybe I should quit voting then ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
ZaphodBeeblebrox
honestly if that's your attitude maybe it would be best ¬¬
chaban
Cut me some slack. Over 8000 approvals last 28 days.
ZaphodBeeblebrox
yes and? it really is great that you're looking at a lot of edits - and approving, voting, checking, but approving a lot doesn't give you the "right" to vote no more. it shoudl be based on each individual edit itself.
and before you start on me: i once emptied the editing que. voted on everything.
(thought that was back whne that number was like 9000 but still.)
:D
anyway this edit will fail. but if you look at it objectivly. it seems it's chaning the "." inot the actual name?
so "technically" it was improving data
imho "abstain" is good a vote here
(especially since it will fail anyway)
data has canged in the meantime
yvanzo
ZaphodBeeblebrox: chaban indeed voted Abstain at first.
ZaphodBeeblebrox
yes I noticed . wondering why the change ov vote :D
chaban
People complain when I vote too much No, people complain when I abstain... Maybe it's to the best I quit for real and let others deal with voting.
yvanzo
Because another edit fixed it in the meantime, I would have voted exactly the same.
ZaphodBeeblebrox will neve complain that peopel vote too much abstain
ZaphodBeeblebrox
my apologies chaban.
yvanzo
“No” votes should not be seen as a punishment, they should be seen objectively. :)
chaban
I've ranted about voting not too long ago. Someone asked me why I didn't prevent an edit...
ZaphodBeeblebrox
don't let others tell you not to vote abstain :)
yvanzo: and yet thatis how they are de-facto persived :(
(hench the blogpost rob wrote.. where is it. "edits that improve shouldnt be voted down" etc etc)
chaban: you should ask them why *they* didn't instead ;) it's noons explisit "duty" to "prevent" or "approve" edits
yvanzo
ZaphodBeeblebrox: I agree, that should probably be better explained or documented.
ZaphodBeeblebrox
:)
it doesn't help that once someone votes no on your edits you get a mail like "someone has voted no on your edit #####!!" or the linke. even *I* 15 years and running autoeditor and oldbie, instrument inserter and all that. if i get one of those my initial reaction is "oh no!"
to a newbie it can feel like a terrible damning finger "you did wrong!!11"
MBS-10238: MusicBrainz seriously spams when multiple edits are voted upon or commented on

I've been experimenting more the past couple days, trying to get responses or convince editors to cancel instead of voting No up front. It doesn't work good enough. I have to constantly check those edits and if they are not canceled change my vote.
^ Obviously incorrect. I'd prefer to vote No and "be done with it".
reosarevok
chaban: IMO it's fine to vote No in a case like this
I'd generally vote No and maybe suggest they can cancel it
(at the same time)
It does suck though if there's like 30 similar edits and you have to vote No on all though :/ Really not sure how to make it less bad tho
(other than making the email less scary)

YouTube channel ID or custom channel URL? I've seen these kind of changes go in the opposite direction as well: https://musicbrainz.org/edit/70080516 I know both are allowed but it seems problematic if editors change them to fit their preference or for marketing reasons. FTR, I don't usually change them, except once it seems: https://musicbrainz.org/edit/62224604 Shame on me :P
