heh, cropping the relevant bits out of the screenshot :/

simukis_: that is restricted by entity
Hmm
simukis_: it's restricted to .net :D
Please add a ticket if .com is also valid
warp
ah, presumably we should rewrite one to the other then.
reosarevok
Probably
That might be a better ticket :p

when did mb migrate to trac?
reosarevok
We used trac before jira
You want tickets. not bugs.
simukis_
yeah.
reosarevok
(if you want to know still, I sadly don't know the answer)
nikki
at the end of 2005
and we first started migrating to jira at the end of 2009

Tykling: Most censurfridns traffic goes to your ns1, right? I'm adding your DNS to my pDNSd conf, and I'm considering flipping them around. Not that it would likely matter much, but...

Tykling: Wait, how do I verify that I'm using your DNS servers? :p
Freso should get a better grasp of sysadmin-y tools... :/
...
Okay, I got through the DNS block to Grooveshark... to find that Grooveshark has themselves blocked access from Denmark. :(
Right. It just needs someone to write the code. There's no whitelist for "purchase for download" URLs.
The reason "other db" URLs usually get acted on pretty fast, is that they need code to actually be usable on the site.
(Ie., they need to be whitelisted in the JavaScript, or they will get rejected when someone tries to add such an URL.)
yindesu
I see
Freso
If you're not up for messing with the JavaScript, I can probably do it after Friday.
(E.g., this weekend or next week - before next code freeze, so it should get into the server release in two weeks time.)
If so, just assign me to the ticket.
nikki wonders why more people don't add those urls if they're so important
And ping me about it on Saturday.
yindesu
nikki: I only add download links to digital media releases, basically.
CallerNo6
yindesu: I don't think you'll ever get agreement on what a "cover" is.
Freso
And so you should. :p
yindesu
CallerNo6: What if the record label says it's a cover?
the artist of the "cover" differs from the artist of the origianl
nikki
(there are only 26 for recochoku and 37 for mora)
yindesu
shouldn't that be enough?
nikki: I assume all of them were added by me?
nikki
I don't have any way to check that
yindesu
most of our Japanese editors aren't from Japan so there's probably a good reason people don't bother with Mora or Recochoku
nikki
(other than opening the edit history for each one one by one that is)
CallerNo6
yindesu, I don't think you'll find "cover" used consistently in the real world either :-)
yindesu
iTunes is fairly easy to create accounts for (try to download a free app)
if it's not enough for the artist to be different, and not enough that the record label says it's a cover...
..then what is a Cover recording?
nikki
"we don't know" is the simplest answer
CallerNo6
how many answers do you want?
yindesu
And given those 2 conditions, is that really grounds for voting down edits?
Freso
yindesu: Most "(hard)core" MusicBrainz editors are not really fond of the "cover" attribute, since it's so hard (ie., pretty much impossible, as far as we know) to define when something is and isn't a cover.
yindesu: Hence why my answer to your question about whether we wanted to talk about what a "cover" recording is, was "no".
yindesu
I'm trying to get an understanding of how the attribute should be used
Freso would be perfectly happy to just see that attribute removed.
perhaps I should more explicitly ask, why would you vote down an edit to add a Cover attribute?
Freso tends to abstain on anything involving the "cover" attribute...
