I *think* that should be safe to remove across the merge. It's certainly safe to remove from the release you're merging *into*
Titles will remain as the ones of the release you're merging it into, so you can ignore that if you merge into the correct-ish one
johtso
ah, that's good
so what about the label? The incorrect label will be copied over right? So do I just open the merge edit, then wait for it to be merged, and then correct the label?
CatCat
reosarevok: i don't like that edit, but i am not about to get in a web of tangles with teleguise
reosarevok
johtso: well, I'd enter the removal for the incorrect label
It will either be removed, and all is fine
Or fail, and then it'll tell you it couldn't remove it and you could just enter a removal again
johtso
reosarevok, aha, so step 1 enter edit to correct label on release, and then enter edit to merge?
reosarevok
I doubt the order in which they're entered matters much
It'll depend on the order they apply in
I guess you could remove it first, yes
That way if both expire after 7 days, I guess that'll be dealt with before the merge
About the linked edit: the main question is - are legal name artists and legal name aliases on the performance name mutually exclusive?
(but suspicious than the other edits fixing this mess are untouched)
exept for jesus voting yess on a few of the fixes, thanks man!
reosarevok
CatCat: greycat is Russian and probably subscribed to that artist, salo follows a search of no-voted stuff (I think) so will see it because greycat voted no, and jesus seems to be voting on more of the fixes
Easy solution! :)

hello CatCat!
CatCat
halla!
intgr
/c/c
CatCat
was that to me intgr ?
intgr
Heh no, I wanted to type the command "/c" but forgot I had already typed it
CatCat: That would make them have different values, and since discogs is mostly a collector site, that matters
Not that much for MB - although theoretically they'd be different releases for us too I'd say, but I doubt anyone'd care enough to enter them :p
CatCat
it gets to the point where its probalby just a differnt pressing
reosarevok
CallerNo6: heh, I certainly would see different colour vinyl as a different release
CatCat
so this pressign has silver text, the first had white, etc
but yes
it am happy for the return of release events
CallerNo6
reosarevok: really? I wouldn've thoughtj it'd be enough to note "available in five colors, collect them all!" in the annotation
CatCat
lol
yes
seems to be "release in colours2
but i see what reo mens, but again, seems same release
this sort of thing.. ugh
reosarevok
CallerNo6: Pretty much every person I knew cared about vinyl colours enough to be like "I have the red one and you have the black one and we have different releases"
Well, they wouldn't say it like that, because they are punks, not metadata nerds, but still, they see it as different
CallerNo6
reosarevok: oh, so you're gonna play the "I know people" card.
CatCat would see it sa the smae release, but different "editions"
CatCat
like shiny pokemon
still a pichu, but shiny
Now grooving to: Junichi Masuda, Go Ichinose ~ Route 1 (1:15) (from Pokémon Gold & Silver) (2000)
CatCat defends his pokémon analogy with tha this music was palying and CallerNo6 said "collect them all!"
:Å
CallerNo6
Okay, I defer to the collectors, as long as it doesn't lead to a proliferation of recordings.
er, _further_ proliferation
CatCat

CatCat: isn't that pretty much what releases and release groups are already? :p
CatCat
7me hates this "make more recordings" bs for things wich are strictly speaqking "the same"
drsaunde sides with CatCat on that one
CatCat doesn't really understand what release group is supposed ot be anymore
jacobbrett joined the channel
CallerNo6 doesn't understand what CatCat is unclear on. That could mean that I'm even less clear on it.
CallerNo6
Also, I don't understand why the android MusicBrainz app doesn't need to read my contacts, when every fucking other app thinks it's a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
CatCat
becase who amde it isn't a doucebag
?
CallerNo6
What? Are you people the good guys or something?
ianmcorvidae
haha
clearly jdamcd just doesn't know how you're supposed to write android apps
if they're not a privacy nightmare you're DOING IT WRONG ;)
CallerNo6
<totally />
CatCat wants an android app that he can use ot *tag* music with

I want to go through a bunch of recordings and group them, but I'm still not sure how to approach it to avoid doing more harm than good..
Is it enough to listen to the tracks on spotify to see which recordings are which, or do I have to be careful about remasterings?
peaveyman_ joined the channel
jacobbrett
johtso: Considering its age, I'd be wary of "noticeably different" remasters (especially when remastered for digital releases). We don't have very good guidelines for this sort of thing at the moment, though.
johtso
jacobbrett, it's a shame there's no way of adding information about the sources of recordings without having to go into subtle differences
jacobbrett
johtso: How would that work when often there are only subtle differences to differentiate them? You could relate the Masterer and mastering date, I suppose.
