last time i tried to turn off every extension and every script, so i doubt it's caused by those

reosarevok
heh
2013-06-01 15230, 2013
reosarevok
Indeed it works fine in latest Chrome
2013-06-01 15246, 2013
reosarevok
So I guess the fix just never worked for Chromium
2013-06-01 15252, 2013
reosarevok
Are you on the latest version?
2013-06-01 15257, 2013
culinko
don't think so
2013-06-01 15246, 2013
culinko
but always something broke when i had overwritten it with new version:)
2013-06-01 15201, 2013
culinko
this sentence probably doesn't make sense:)
2013-06-01 15202, 2013
reosarevok
Chromium doesn't seem to be on our supported browsers list, so I doubt someone's going to work on that :/
2013-06-01 15206, 2013
reosarevok
heh
2013-06-01 15212, 2013
culinko
it's just
2013-06-01 15223, 2013
reosarevok
well, nikki always refused to upgrade her Opera for that reason :p
2013-06-01 15228, 2013
culinko
i am not installing chromium, just extracting the zip file
2013-06-01 15248, 2013
culinko
and this "update process" doesn't like the configuration and extensions kinda
2013-06-01 15202, 2013
reosarevok
heh
2013-06-01 15208, 2013
culinko
i was getting those "aw, snap" pages quite a lot after update
2013-06-01 15227, 2013
culinko
and installing extensions and scripts again it's like an hour work:)
2013-06-01 15242, 2013
culinko
i can try to backup my settings and try with newest chromium tho
2013-06-01 15201, 2013
alastairp joined the channel
2013-06-01 15218, 2013
culinko
i would update chromium long time ago, but they changed the background for folders in bookmark bar
2013-06-01 15222, 2013
culinko
it's so white my eyes hurt
2013-06-01 15257, 2013
nikki
that looks like the second ticket I linked
2013-06-01 15215, 2013
nikki
I assume chromium has some sort of development thing where you can edit the source?
2013-06-01 15231, 2013
nikki
if so, you could try removing the <bdi> tags and seeing if it fixes it
2013-06-01 15249, 2013
culinko
hmm
2013-06-01 15256, 2013
culinko
it's fixed in newest chromium
2013-06-01 15219, 2013
culinko
i don't see any bdi tags
2013-06-01 15214, 2013
culinko
oh nvm i see
2013-06-01 15234, 2013
culinko
it works
2013-06-01 15208, 2013
culinko
i removed just first bdi tag
2013-06-01 15215, 2013
culinko
and the line is showing ok
2013-06-01 15228, 2013
culinko
interesting, when i remove the first bdi tags (recording name), it's showing okay. if i remove the second tags (first artist) or third tags (second artist), it's not showing the artists.
2013-06-01 15228, 2013
culinko
what is exactly doing the <bdi> tag here?
2013-06-01 15203, 2013
nikki
bdi isolates things from the surrounding context for the purpose of the bidi algorithm, so that if a title happens to contain right to left characters, the right-to-left-ness doesn't leak out
the bug wasn't there when i started participating with my edits 1 year ago
2013-06-01 15213, 2013
culinko
it appeared some time ago
2013-06-01 15223, 2013
culinko
i mean the missing text
2013-06-01 15246, 2013
nikki
it appeared when we added the bdi tags to fix the problem of rtl-ness leaking out
2013-06-01 15200, 2013
simukis_
culinko: Well 24th version was released half a year ago...
2013-06-01 15203, 2013
nikki
and it's a bug in chrome/chromium, which they've apparently since fixed
2013-06-01 15221, 2013
simukis_
culinko: for browsers and web nowadays that's a lot. It's not like we're living in IE6 era anymore.
2013-06-01 15232, 2013
culinko
6 months is a lot?
2013-06-01 15247, 2013
culinko
you got to be kidding me
2013-06-01 15249, 2013
simukis_
for web and browsers it is.
2013-06-01 15203, 2013
culinko
especially not for web browsers
2013-06-01 15255, 2013
simukis_
culinko: oh, don't get me started 😃
2013-06-01 15235, 2013
nikki
I imagine a user script to just remove all the bdi tags on the page would probably work, but I don't think I have anything I can test with
2013-06-01 15245, 2013
culinko
i don't have time for reinstalling and reconfiguring extensions all the time
2013-06-01 15206, 2013
culinko
and the new version of chromium is just bad
2013-06-01 15219, 2013
culinko
so i don't have a reason to upgrade
2013-06-01 15223, 2013
nikki shrugs
2013-06-01 15236, 2013
culinko
nikki: that is indeed a good idea:)
2013-06-01 15254, 2013
nikki
oh, you mean why you don't upgrade
2013-06-01 15202, 2013
nikki
I thought you were complaining about the idea of a user script :P
2013-06-01 15205, 2013
culinko
nah
2013-06-01 15246, 2013
culinko
if the new versions of chromium were just performance fixes, bug fixes and so on, i won't have anything against upgrading
2013-06-01 15218, 2013
culinko
but changing the visuals is sad
2013-06-01 15235, 2013
culinko
time for a browser change soon i suppose:)
2013-06-01 15251, 2013
simukis_
culinko: Chrome(ium) is known for not breaking extension API between versions. I don't even have an idea why would you need to reconfigure your extensions after upgrade… As for new version being not to your liking I have nothing to say as it is only a matter of preference (I myself moved to firefox before the winter myself).
2013-06-01 15217, 2013
culinko
simukis_: i received a lot "aw, snap" pages when i did this in past
2013-06-01 15258, 2013
simukis_
Are you by any chance on dev channel?
2013-06-01 15211, 2013
culinko
no, stable channel
2013-06-01 15229, 2013
culinko
anyway, i consider moving to firefox again as well
2013-06-01 15241, 2013
culinko
i moved to chromium from firefox 3? i think
2013-06-01 15256, 2013
culinko
and only because it was slow
2013-06-01 15208, 2013
simukis_
I suspect that because you said 29 being most recent stable version while stable channel is 27.* only.
2013-06-01 15218, 2013
culinko
hmm
2013-06-01 15223, 2013
simukis_
I'm on 29 but I'm certain I'm on dev channel.
2013-06-01 15239, 2013
culinko
i use some extension called "chromium updater" i have no idea where it takes the releases
2013-06-01 15224, 2013
culinko
oh it's called "continuous build" and "snapshot build"
2013-06-01 15229, 2013
culinko
thought it's stable and beta
2013-06-01 15217, 2013
simukis_
continuous probably does mean daily/nightly ones (even more unstable dev) while snapshot would probably be dev…
2013-06-01 15258, 2013
culinko
yeah, it probably is dev build
2013-06-01 15229, 2013
simukis_
if you're on system with package manager, I'd just use it for upgrading your browser. And on windows browser takes care of updating itself.
