nope, the other one had some weird characters in picard
      • kepstin-work
and you couldn't fix it by editing the other release?
      • culinko
the relase looked fine in mb, right encoding etc. it was only bad in picard
      • kepstin-work
ok, I've approved the remaining recording artist changes.
      • culinko
        thanks a lot
      • Freso
Hm. Should the frontpage of a booklet be "Front+Booklet"?
      • (Cover art)
      • kepstin-work
        sure
      • ianmcorvidae
if it's part of the booklet and the front cover of the album (like a typical CD), then sure
      • kepstin-work
only put 'Front' on an image that contains *just* the front, tho
      • e.g. don't use it on a scan that has multiple booklet pages
      • because otherwise it's confusing :)
      • Freso
ianmcorvidae: If it's "Bastion_CDART_01.jpg" out of _04, that counts too, right? :p
      • kepstin-work: Sure. ;)
      • ianmcorvidae
        haha
      • Freso
Uhm. I'm just doing it now, but...
      • On a digital release, isn't it fine to use the filename of the included art as the cover art comment? >_>
      • jacobbrett
        No, that's for disambiguation.
      • Freso
Hm. Where do I go to note the filename then?
      • Since that's kind of lost in the upload...
      • ianmcorvidae
        release annotation, I guess
      • Freso
Also, the filename does disambiguate from similarly looking covers - e.g. scans from the CD release.
      • Though I guess I should note that it's the filename, and not just write it.
      • ianmcorvidae
edit note is the other obvious place, also
      • Freso
But you can't see edits per-piece-of-cover art.
      • ianmcorvidae
sure, but they appear on the listing for the release
      • which is where any sensible person would look :P
      • Freso
So while right now that's not a problem, I can easily see how in the future that could be tricky.
      • To wade through a bunch of CA adds/removals/edits for a given release.
      • ianmcorvidae
sure, but people do that constantly for edit listings generally in order to find that sort of info
      • Freso
Since the displayed image in the edit listing will very closely resemble eachother when they're scaled down.
      • Still, I can't see why noting the filename (and that it's the filename) isn't a good disambiguation.
      • Speaking of. The Bastion Steam OST download has both the _01.jpg of the cover, but it also has "cover.jpg".
      • The cover.jpg is a lower-res than _01, but otherwise the same image (AFAICT).
      • Should cover.jpg be uploaded/added?
      • hawke_
        No.

Does anyone know how to get the acoustid of an ogg file and link it to a musicbrainz id?
      • culinko
        hmm, if i want to make disambiguation like "R&B singer", is "R&B" correct? or should i decapitalize it as "r&b"? or "R n' B" / "r n' b"?
      • kepstin-work
the disambiguation is user-readable text, just do whatever looks best :)
      • in English, things like R&B are usually capitalized.
      • culinko
okay, thanks. i will stick with R&B
      • hawke_
Why do people ask questions and then leave after 3 minutes?
      • kepstin-work
        because they don't want answers.
      • kepstin-work didn't notice the person - the answer would have been 'load it into a recent version of picard' of course.
      • derr84
      • :(

      • bitmap
        hawke_: hi
      • hawke_
hey bitmap…Just wondering if your “relate works to recordings from a release” userscript is doing something silly like validating every date every time you edit any date…
      • I noticed that it seems to get slower and slower as I have more and more edit things open.
      • bitmap
not that I know of. I'll check it out
      • hawke_
I’m just doing a relatively simple thing:, copy-paste a date, backspace to change the day part in the begin date.
      • and it goes from “quick” down to ”>10s” as i get more edit boxes open.
      • bitmap
I'm not noticing any slowdown like that myself
      • hawke_
Let me see if I can find the release. The number of edit boxes was pretty large.
      • Opening edit boxes one at a time, not “edit all”
      • by the time I get to the end of the second disc it’s ~4s
      • (to paste in "2001-04-05" and hit "backspace, 4"
      • (the backspace-4 is what takes so long)
      • In Chrome, here.
      • bitmap
still not seeing that, so I'm not sure what to profile :/
      • noobie pokes bitmaü
      • noobie
        bitmap* ^^
      • bitmap
        ow
      • noobie
may i offer the following feature request for picard ? ;p
      • a gui option to add custom tags to TAG_NAMES
      • bitmap
might as well just let people add custom tags in the tag editor again
      • noobie
        even better..or let's say crucial :)
      • s/crucial/vital
      • hawke_
bitmap: Good news: I just tried using the javascripting profile feature of Chrome and found that it was a different extension that just happened to interact badly with your script.
      • bitmap: Is there any reason not to let people add custom tags in the tag editor?
      • bitmap
        aha :)
      • hawke_
bitmap: If you’re curious, the extension was “tactical URL expander” which expands shortened URLs. No idea why that would cause any problems, but there you have it.
      • bitmap
hawke_: not really. I think it was removed becuase there was no good UI for it
      • noobie
        ??
      • hawke_
Isn’t it exactly the same as the current 'add tag' interface, but allowing a custom tag name?
      • noobie
yes, that's how it worked in the past-1.0 version
      • bitmap
oh, I wanted it to be part of the "add new tag" dialog, but it broke the autocompletion in a very bad way. I don't remember how
      • hawke_
I can see it being a problem for some things, given how tag mapping would have to work.
      • (i.e. the internal Picard tag names don’t match the actual tags used)
      • noobie
        well,tag handling changed a bit since 1.0 i think
      • hawke_
Which reminds me: It is deeply annoying trying to figure out what tags to preserve when Picard doesn’t show the actual tag name. :-)
      • derr84
now I'm starting to edit recordings and I see six-digit number in 'Length'. trying to save and see 'Not a valid time. Must be in the format MM:SS'
      • ??
      • (I'm adding Disambiguation)
      • hawke_
derr84: Known bug. Try using beta, it works there.
      • ianmcorvidae
yeah; use beta or convert that number to MM:SS (the number you're seeing is a number of milliseconds)
      • hawke_
Sadly it’s not the first time that bug has happened.
      • derr84
I don't convert, just copy/past length and it works)
      • murk joined the channel
      • murk
        hi
      • hawke_
        Now that’s just stupid. :-)
      • derr84
how can I use beta? I don't understand. it's for testing only, isn't it?
      • hawke_
derr84: It’s for testing, but it works with the live db
      • ianmcorvidae
        yeah
      • it's not usually different in many appreciable ways
      • murk
i have a question about picard, when I save changes made to some files, they dont get saved in the file
      • ianmcorvidae
except bugs get fixed there first, of course :)
      • MBChatLogger
      • hawke_
test.mb.org is the one that is different.
      • murk: What kind of file? What kind of changes?
      • noobie
        which file extensions?
      • murk
        mp3 files
      • noobie
        are they write protected?
      • murk
it tries to change the Length and Original Release Date
      • noobie
well, chaning length is not possible i guess
      • murk
i've seen that come up on a google search but as far as I'm aware they aren't
      • hawke_
murk: It can’t change the length
      • noobie
        ORD should be though
      • hawke_
I’m not sure if ID3 tags allow the original date
      • murk
        that's possible
      • but on another occasion it tries to change the producer label
      • which should be allowed
      • but that does not work either
      • noobie
it worked for the remaining tags?
      • or not at all ?
      • hawke_
        murk: See if you’re using id3 v2.3 or id3 v2.4
      • Some stuff can’t be saved in 2.3
      • murk
        2.3
      • bitmap
I think in 0.16 originaldate wasn't saved by default. in 1.0 it is
      • hawke_
        Try switching to 2.4
      • noobie
        and to 1.0^^
      • hawke_
That too. bitmap: Wouldn’t it just not show up in the list if it wasn’t going to be saved?
      • bitmap
        hm, maybe
      • murk
I'm sorry, change to 1.0 where?
      • hawke_
        murk: Version 1.0 of Picard.
      • noobie
        the most recent one
      • murk
        ah, ye i got that
      • dled today
      • but with 2.4 it looks like the Producer Label is completely gone, when i look at the files through the explorer
      • i mean, erased
      • noobie
well, there is only an record label tag
      • if that's the same as producer label
      • hawke_
murk: Some apps don’t know how to read id3v2.4
      • murk
        err
      • i just mean like, the publisher
      • yea record label
      • noobie
does it show the label tag in picard?
      • murk
        yes
      • i think winamp should support id3v2.4 right?
      • noobie
        i hope so
      • :d
      • murk
ok so, the original recordlabel of a certain album is
      • Virgin Records America/Immortal Vinyl Records
      • picard wants to change it to
