the classical stuff only took a couple hours in part because of liberal application of userscripts -- those nice 9-artist ACs, creating works, linking works, etc.

(helps that you're an AE, too, lets you do things like add all the tracks with the performers as an AE and then change the track artists back to the composers)

ianmcorvidae: you can just enter an edit to change the track artists, choose 'apply to recordings' and then cancel the medium edit.

regarding releases and discIDs. Are there really cases where a single release has more than one discID? I start to think that there are only releases with more than one discID in MBz because submitters don't realize it's a different release
      • 2012-09-01 24554, 2012

      • _flow_
Lomaxx: Maybe but I imagine that it's hard to correct this if you don't hold all the cd's in hand
      • 2012-09-01 24507, 2012

      • hawke_
Lomaxx: There are, but yes, MB has way more of them than there should be.

Lomaxx: Think of a new album by a major (really major) artist, expected to sell in the millions. For capacity reasons, the copies are made in parallel at different factories, each making its own (slightly different) master. Still, this could be considered "different" releases, in a sense.

beside all this, in the example of the CD I've been ripping, I am surprised that there is a US-version released almost 10 years after the one I am holding in my hand was produced.

<sigh> another candidate for what should be a seperate release although it's not really worth it in relation to most of it's data...: http://musicbrainz.org/release-group/6c6042ba-607…

Now I could make another release just to bring in my version of the barcode, which confuses someone who tried to identify his disk via discID and is left with three versions which are more or less all the same.

or i could edit one of the existing releases with the effect that probably sooner or later someone will re-edit it again.

I wonder if it wouldn't be better to strictly define that one release can only have one discID even if there are releases which overlap 100% in all data.

Lomaxx: I consider a different barcode to be a different release generally.

In a couple cases, I have a disc with two barcodes, which I entered as separate releases.
