reosarevok: well, yes, if you consider a (maybe constructed) example:
2012-01-09 00916, 2012
hrglgrmpf
you have a VA release with composers written in Japanese, but the titles in rōmaji... so users might want a pseudo-release with the composers in Latin transliteration as well
2012-01-09 00927, 2012
hrglgrmpf
composers = ACs
2012-01-09 00907, 2012
hrglgrmpf
so in this case, I would set the script of the original release to "Japanese", and the new transliteration release to Latin (to distinguish both)
2012-01-09 00930, 2012
reosarevok doesn't know, whatever nikki says :p
2012-01-09 00941, 2012
reosarevok doesn't really know how people use pseudos :)
2012-01-09 00917, 2012
hrglgrmpf
yes, it doesn't matter if the script is unset... because if someone wants to do this (add a pseudo-release), he can easily change the Latin script of the original release, the bot won't change it back
reosarevok: I thought it may be, though was waiting for a response. I think I'll just abstain.
2012-01-09 00949, 2012
reosarevok
I would abstain, yeah
2012-01-09 00958, 2012
reosarevok
But you should ask if it's a mashup
2012-01-09 00958, 2012
hrglgrmpf
hmm, I found a release that has only one track "Multiple Titles (See CD)" :-)
2012-01-09 00917, 2012
reosarevok
I wonder what happens with a mashup of two songs of the same artist :p
2012-01-09 00926, 2012
hrglgrmpf
I think we can make our live a lot easier if we adopt this practise for all releases...
2012-01-09 00914, 2012
reosarevok
Sounds like a plan, huh? :)
2012-01-09 00949, 2012
reosarevok
hrglgrmpf, on the other hand it *is* a sampler
2012-01-09 00956, 2012
reosarevok
So the "all in one track" part is probably right
2012-01-09 00914, 2012
hrglgrmpf
yes, of course... but the reference to the CD is funny :-)
2012-01-09 00918, 2012
reosarevok
(where the hell did it come from BTW?)
2012-01-09 00924, 2012
reosarevok
(no history at all!)
2012-01-09 00939, 2012
hrglgrmpf
reosarevok: this is fairly common for really old releases... I don't know why...
2012-01-09 00922, 2012
reosarevok
:/
2012-01-09 00954, 2012
reosarevok
Argh
2012-01-09 00900, 2012
nikki
hrglgrmpf: I think that would be a bit of a contrived and controversial example
2012-01-09 00919, 2012
hrglgrmpf
why? (I agree on contrived)

Someone fix the recordings-from-release thing in beta
2012-01-09 00920, 2012
nikki
I would most likely vote no to adding a release where only the artist credits change, it's not necessary. picard can already use latin names (the primary use of pseudo-releases is tagging...) and we can already store localised names as aliases
2012-01-09 00901, 2012
nikki
neither are perfect, but neither is adding loads of pseudo-releases
reosarevok: thanks for pointing at that forum thread. I was gonna add that box set release myself. now I know I don't need to bother :)
2012-01-09 00942, 2012
Shepard
I don't own it anyway and didn't realise it was gonna be so complicated...
2012-01-09 00926, 2012
hrglgrmpf
nikki: ok! I never used a Pseudo-Release, so this was completely made up
2012-01-09 00942, 2012
reosarevok
flamingspinach, it says there it's a distributor
2012-01-09 00951, 2012
flamingspinach
oh, you're right
2012-01-09 00953, 2012
reosarevok
So I would expect the releases to be under the specific labels
2012-01-09 00900, 2012
flamingspinach
yeah, never mind :)
2012-01-09 00906, 2012
reosarevok knows nothing about this specific one though

flamingspinach reosarevok : tower records is a shop . the listed releases are Tower records ONLY releases like if there were Amazon exclusives or Itunes exclusives etc.
2012-01-09 00947, 2012
flamingspinach
oh, I feel dumb now
2012-01-09 00957, 2012
jesus2099
they also have a production label but in these particualr cases (because they are tower exclusives) I thought better to put this distributor instead
2012-01-09 00906, 2012
jesus2099
I say “I” but I’m not alone
2012-01-09 00950, 2012
nikki
we don't use itunes or amazon as the label for itunes/amazon exclusives though
2012-01-09 00912, 2012
flamingspinach
I wonder why jesus2099 doesn't just stay in here if he's reading logs somewhere
The first ones are marked Armin, the rest van Buuren
2012-01-09 00902, 2012
reosarevok
But this is marked both
2012-01-09 00915, 2012
kovacsur
so, SultS, why would you keep them separate?

Honey badger don't care!!
2012-01-09 00916, 2012
reosarevok
I'd expect that to be "I just don't care, like honey badger"
2012-01-09 00935, 2012
reosarevok
Also, wtf, van Buuren is knighted?
2012-01-09 00953, 2012
reosarevok
The Dutch are crazy :)
2012-01-09 00906, 2012
SultS
kovacsur, because the name “Armin” was used officialy bu AvB, and on multiple releases. But it‘s mostly comparable to a band changing it‘s name at some point. I‘m not sure right now, do we merge these?
2012-01-09 00919, 2012
kovacsur
merging them has some practical advantages
2012-01-09 00932, 2012
reosarevok
SultS, we do if the changes are small I think
2012-01-09 00935, 2012
kovacsur
releases, recordings being in the same list
2012-01-09 00948, 2012
kovacsur
so I prefer to keep them together unless the differences are too big
"If a group changes its name and then continues to use that name, as above, this depends mainly on the extent of the change. If it is only a fairly minor change, it is fine to simply update the current entry and use aliases and artist credits for the variations. If it is a larger change, it is usually considered a new group. Again, what counts as a minor change varies from artist to artist."
2012-01-09 00941, 2012
SultS
I can definetly see pros of keeping these names together, but I‘m not sure it‘s the correct thing to do
2012-01-09 00942, 2012
nikki
hrglgrmpf: well I hate url descriptions and wish they'd go away :)
2012-01-09 00956, 2012

reosarevok
This kinda makes sense
2012-01-09 00922, 2012
reosarevok
It's really a description of what the link is, for once :p
2012-01-09 00948, 2012
hrglgrmpf
maybe we can use the description of the license URLs for better display in the future...
reosarevok, based on the description, I guess it‘s fine to merge… Still not sure I wanna vote yes to that though :P
2012-01-09 00947, 2012
reosarevok
I think abstaining is fine
2012-01-09 00957, 2012
nikki
hrglgrmpf: we'd still need to special-case them because of all the shit already in the descriptions, in which case it doesn't make much difference whether it's in the url description or in the code itself
2012-01-09 00914, 2012
reosarevok
SultS: we do have a way to change a release + all recordings now (in beta)
2012-01-09 00921, 2012
nikki
hrglgrmpf: and in the code means it can be translated later ;)
2012-01-09 00921, 2012
reosarevok
So if then we want to undo it, we can
2012-01-09 00939, 2012
hrglgrmpf
nikki: true...
2012-01-09 00948, 2012
hrglgrmpf
nikki: feel free to vote no :-)
2012-01-09 00951, 2012
