even if they entered it wrong, would the see immediately when the page is ready ,and go "oh I need to fix that"
      • 2012-04-10 10157, 2012

      • nikki has no sympathy for native speakers who put days in a field marked "YYYY"
      • 2012-04-10 10106, 2012

      • CatCat
i actually liek the idea of havign to enter 0900 for year 900
      • 2012-04-10 10120, 2012

      • CatCat
in order to spesify that you *mean* year 900
      • 2012-04-10 10116, 2012

      • CatCat
nikki: _I suspect it's actually more common among "native" english as the are lots of them with "weird" order *cough*american*cough*cough*
      • 2012-04-10 10128, 2012

      • CatCat
atleast these with bogus year is easily spotted
      • 2012-04-10 10151, 2012

      • nikki
well, brits don't normally use yyyy-mm-dd either.
      • 2012-04-10 10154, 2012

      • CatCat
the sheer amount that must (wrongly) in the format YYYY-DD-MM is horrible
      • 2012-04-10 10104, 2012

      • CatCat
        but you use dd-mm-yyyy?
      • 2012-04-10 10107, 2012

      • nikki
        yes
      • 2012-04-10 10110, 2012

      • CatCat
i think we do too acutally
      • 2012-04-10 10133, 2012

      • CatCat
could make a stand for havign the forms in the order dd-mm-yyyy
      • 2012-04-10 10150, 2012

      • nikki would argue that mb should just implement her date parser :P
      • 2012-04-10 10157, 2012

      • crism
CatCat, that would be *more* likely to confuse the Americans.
      • 2012-04-10 10157, 2012

      • CatCat
        i totally agree
      • 2012-04-10 10159, 2012

      • nikki
        (without the bugs)
      • 2012-04-10 10132, 2012

      • crism
It’s too close to the mm/dd/yyyy format folks are used to, whereas ISO 8601 is noticeably foreign (if they are paying any attention at all).
      • 2012-04-10 10105, 2012

      • CatCat
crism: I don't see that, yyyy-mm-dd is just as "confusing" as dd-mm-yyyy for someone who's usign monthmonth-dayday-yearyearyearyear
      • 2012-04-10 10118, 2012

      • CatCat
        but seriosuly. WTF mm-dd-yyyy?
      • 2012-04-10 10127, 2012

      • nikki
dd-mm-yyyy has the same number of digits in each place though

        Puuuurple links
      • 2012-04-10 10144, 2012

      • nikki
        yyyy-mm-dd doesn't, so it's more attention-grabbing
      • 2012-04-10 10150, 2012

      • CatCat
        nikki: yea it is
      • 2012-04-10 10152, 2012

      • crism
CatCat: I can’t explain mm/dd/yyyy, but it’s what’s standard in the USA. If you ask an American to fill in dd/mm/yyyy, the chance of an undetected error is *huge*.
      • 2012-04-10 10158, 2012

      • CatCat
it's liek americans intentionally implement retarded ways of measuring things.
      • 2012-04-10 10131, 2012

      • moufl
        I'd say it's a derivative of mm-dd
      • 2012-04-10 10132, 2012

      • CatCat
i mena we used ot have retared measurign things before too, it wasn't retared beofer whn peopel wher farmers and stuff and a foot was your foot or whatnot
      • 2012-04-10 10132, 2012

      • crism
Whereas with yyyy-mm-dd, you can at least computationally detect errors like nn-nn-nn.
      • 2012-04-10 10135, 2012

      • CatCat
        made sense then
      • 2012-04-10 10141, 2012

      • moufl
makes more sense to have mm before
      • 2012-04-10 10154, 2012

      • CatCat
        moufl: what?
      • 2012-04-10 10102, 2012

      • moufl
maybe you care less about the year since you plan things from month to month
      • 2012-04-10 10111, 2012

      • moufl
        if that makes sense
      • 2012-04-10 10115, 2012

      • moufl
        apparently not
      • 2012-04-10 10120, 2012

      • CatCat
it's like crism and nikki say, rthat it's probably better with yyyy-mm-dd
      • 2012-04-10 10127, 2012

      • moufl
        yes
      • 2012-04-10 10128, 2012

      • crism
moufl is right, I think, CatCat. “April 10, 2012” makes sense to write as 4/10/12, whereas “10 avril 2012” makes sense to write as 10/4/12.

Okay, so I recently became an auto-editor and I tried to add a stand-alone recording: "Sorry, you must have been a member for at least 2 weeks and have 10 accepted non-auto-edits before you may add standalone recordings". Oddest thing is that I was fine adding some a few days ago.

I like the map on https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Date_upd1… more, the colours are what you get when you mix them. like the kenyans apparently don't give a shit what date it is and use both dd-mm-yyyy (blue) and mm-dd-yyyy (red) so they're coloured purple
