I have another question about the web services that bugs me out a little
      • .. and I expect to get only Albums by said artist
      • hawke_
        …but?
      • hakko
but for some reason, it also gives me Compilations? is this intended?
      • hawke_
        Yes
      • Compilations are still albums.
      • <primary-type>Album</primary-type>
      • <secondary-type>Compilation</secondary-type>
      • hakko
I'm trying to summarize official discography by an artist, so I'd like to filter out all Compilations
      • I've tried various ways of type=!Compilation, primary-type=... etc
      • but maybe it's just not possible?
      • ideally, I'd like to do type=Album&type=EP&type=Single to only get those types back
      • I also noted that I get the web service returns <secondary-type>DJ-mix</secondary-type> which is not one of the officially listed types on http://musicbrainz.org/doc/XML_Web_Service/Vers...
      • nikki_
then the documentation is out of date
      • hakko
sorry about complaining btw! I really appreciate having the WS available
      • nikki_
      • I don't know of a way to exclude all release groups with secondary types set, so I think you'll need to exclude them all one by one in the query :/
      • warp
that sounds like something we should add support for.
      • nikki_
a secondary type for studio would probably make more sense for what people want to do that for
      • hakko
oh, nice! I haven't seen the secondarytype: in the online manual either, but maybe I've just overlooked it
      • LordSputnik
hakko: no you didn't overlook it, it isn't there :/

I was using http://musicbrainz.org/doc/Indexed_Search_Syntax since I normally do my searches on the website itself (the query parameter for the webservice is the same as the advanced indexed search on the website, so they have the same fields available)
      • hakko
I'll check that and see if I come up with something that fits my needs, thanks!
      • but it's no big deal, right now, I just exclude what I don't need locally.

      • warp
nikki_: I'd support a "studio" secondary type.
      • nikki_
        so would I.
      • LordSputnik
        me three :)
      • hakko
        and me :)

but who will actually bother to propose it? :P
      • LordSputnik
i might - thats a schema proposal not a style proposal, right? :P
      • drsaunde
we should be doing nothing but cover art until we get up over 50%
      • :-)
      • LordSputnik
50% of what? the total releases in mb?!

man, cleaning out your email inbox makes everything nicer.

        sry, cat walked on keyboard
      • warp
that cat is a good at spelling and typing english.
      • kovacsur
I was about to say I have 9259 unread e-mails, even with heaps of filters
      • he only pressed enter this time, but I'll tell him.
      • warp
that needs a few "Mark all as read" clicks
      • (I have about 100 if I count everything, but most of that doesn't need much attention)
      • (some in this channel will probably disagree with that last part)
      • kovacsur
        hehe
      • kepstin now has 21 emails in his inbox, all read
      • kepstin
now, my mailing lists folder - that's another story ;)
      • kovacsur
I'll just need to add more filters, I'd estimate 80% of the mail in my inbox is from old mailing lists/bulk/etc I neglected to make a filter for
      • warp
kovacsur: I never managed to make that work.
      • kovacsur: I always needed just a few more filters
      • (regardless of how many I added)
      • so now I just whitelist real people, their mail can stay in the inbox. everything else which isn't otherwise sorted (mailing lists, etc..) goes into a machines folder, which is almost like a spam folder with only spam I've somehow subscribed to.

      • nikki
LordSputnik: it would still need to go through the style list though
      • ah
      • LordSputnik
nikki: didn't get the first half of that, if there was one :P
      • nikki
LordSputnik: oh, I'm just continuing conversations from hours ago :P regarding "studio"
      • LordSputnik
nikki: if I put something through the style list, who knows what may come out the other side :P
      • nikki: we'll probably end up with a whole load of new secondary types, and none of them will be "studio"
      • ;)
      • nikki
        heh
      • someone would need to come up with some types that studio depends on for that to actually work
      • otherwise the answer is simply "those don't depend on this, if you want those, feel free to make your own proposal" :P
      • err, this doesn't depend on those
      • helps if I get it the right way round
      • LordSputnik
        :D
      • nikki: btw, that MassTagger thing, I'm rewriting in python, so you won't have to mess around with a load of C++ compiling and cross-platform issues :P
