Does anyone know how large the (uncompressed) MB database dump is?
-
Just the core data.
-
nikki
a few gigs I imagine
-
KRSCuan
Less than 10?
-
nikki
should be. the closed edits one is bigger than the rest combined and I think it was about 4 gigs uncompressed
-
hm, yeah, definitely, everything except the closed edits are about 7 or 8 gigs once imported into postgres, so it must be less
-
nikki idly wonders how much space the db indexes take
-
KRSCuan
Okay, so I probably won't need to use a larger external hdd for some little tests.
-
Thanks.
-
nikki wonders what you're up to
-
I'm wondering myself.
-
nikki giggles
-
:)
-
nikki
so you just woke up today and thought "oh, I know! I'll download the mb data"? :P
-
KRSCuan
Not exactly.
-
I can't sleep, so I get weird ideas.
-
nikki
ah
-
to be honest, I don't remember why I originally downloaded the database either. although perhaps that's just because it was so long ago now
-
KRSCuan
Wherever this is going, it may either help with my bachelor thesis or help me fall asleep out of exhaustion.
-
The uncompressed core data dump is about 2 GiB large.
-
Compressed: 744 MiB
-
nikki
good to know :)

if it's some classical stuff, I wouldn't tag it :P
-
Tecfan_work
lol ^^
-
nikki
if it's not, I would have used "Phonotope 1, Part 1"
-
Tecfan_work
it is CSG material
-
so yeah
-
I don't consider "Part I" to actually be the name of that movement
-
so I think I will only do Phonotope 1: I."
-
i'll add the picture in the edit note if anybody disagrees

something is going on with MB now
-
the lookup tool doesn't find the artists I added yesterday .s
-
nor can the normal search
-
nikki
did you add anything to the artist?
-
Tecfan_work
no
-
nikki
then it will have been deleted
-
Tecfan_work
oh
-
Tecfan_work didn't get to finish the release page before he had to travel home from work
-
reosarevok
ModBot deletes all empty artists overnight
-
Well, overnight in Europe
-
Tecfan_work
are you in estland now?
-
estonia
-
reosarevok
Yep
-
Tecfan_work
is it working out? :>
-
nikki
it's usually somewhere around 3am, 4am utc
-
Tecfan_work
ok
-
what was weird that i was also thrown out of the add release page
-
reosarevok
Yeah, just arrived last night but it is nice for now
-
Hmmm, that sounds a bit weird, but might happen
-
I don't think I've ever left an add page open overnight, so I couldn't say
-
Tecfan_work
it might have been a bug with something here of course
-
when I only do Phonotope 1: I.
-
do I add the . behind I?
-
-
's not done
-
this is not specified in the CSG.
-
afaik
-
I will add it as Phonotype 1: I., Phonotype 1: II., Phonotype 1: III.
-
if anybody disagrees they can vote down the add or scream now ;>
-
nikki
meh. stupid "all instruments" credits
-
Tecfan_work
heh
-
reosarevok
:p
-
Can we have a "performed instruments" AR?
-
(same way as we have "performed vocal")
-
nikki
it would be possible
-
Tecfan_work
my god.. i dreamt about musicbrainz i had a genius idea
-
but i have forgotten it
-
nikki had a stupid dream about dreaming
-
nikki
it's really confusing waking up several times in a row :/

how do you use begin/end date in "label was renamed into label" AR?
-
it was renamed in year 2005, should I add this anywhere?
-
reosarevok
begin and end date 2005
-
It will say "was renamed into X in 2005"
-
nikki would use begin date 2005
-
Tecfan_work
for the computer begin date would be best indeed
-
nikki
-
Tecfan_work
oh there are wiki pages for the ARs :>
-
nikki knows at least one label that is wrong then
-
btw
-
when I change the label of an release it's done on release level and not release group level right?
-
there are no label data in group level ?
-
nikki
release groups don't have labels, no
-
Tecfan_work
so there is no fancy way of doing it fast on multi-disc releases?
-
nikki
nope :/
-
reosarevok
Not until NGS, at least :p
-
nikki
even then, there's still no batch edit
-
nikki could use that...
-
there are some labels which changed names and we have separate, but everyone else treats as just one
-
reosarevok
Well, there's no batch edit
-
nikki
so everyone just assigns stuff to the wrong one :/
-
reosarevok
But for multi-disc releases, it is one edit :)
-
nikki
there's batch merging, but that's it

if one album has a space in the catalog number
-
and one does not
-
we still use the one on the cover?
-
don't adjust to all the others?
-
(of the same label)
-
nikki
it probably depends on the label
-
Tecfan_work
in this label it is just a lack of a standard :p
-
nikki
I mean in mb
-
Tecfan_work
what the hell
-
:\
-
*rages at his release add*
-
-
reosarevok
Done
-
Tecfan_work
thanks
-
uhm
-
ok
-
this is hard :P
-
the sticker and catalog numbers
-
it's not the actual label
-
it's more a just a "label"/tab on the albums
