      • 2011-08-16 22828, 2011

      • CatCat
        so. "wrong" then?
      • 2011-08-16 22829, 2011

      • luks
        or "MY Release [LIMITED, IMPORT]"
      • 2011-08-16 22839, 2011

      • CatCat

      • luks

        I mean calling things imports
      • 2011-08-16 22811, 2011

      • nikki
because it's only an import when you're in the wrong country
      • 2011-08-16 22815, 2011

      • CatCat
what i didn't see the import part?

      • 2011-08-16 22832, 2011

      • luks
yeah, well, that was just a stupid example :)
      • 2011-08-16 22842, 2011

      • CatCat
wtf import? every fuckign thing is an import to me, well exept norwegian crap

      • 2011-08-16 22804, 2011

      • CatCat
        sometings are actually "limited"
      • 2011-08-16 22810, 2011

      • luks
I would put that into the comment, not the title
      • 2011-08-16 22814, 2011

      • nikki would too
      • 2011-08-16 22815, 2011

      • 2011-08-16 22837, 2011

      • CatCat
i see coment as "versioning info palce" basically
      • 2011-08-16 22848, 2011

      • luks
but generally you can have info like that in the title, just properly normalized
      • 2011-08-16 22850, 2011

      • CatCat
and if limited is a version info (sometihng i think it is) then yea
      • 2011-08-16 22807, 2011

      • CatCat
        but the track titles..

      • 2011-08-16 22829, 2011

        CatCat, rfc 333 ;)
      • 2011-08-16 22825, 2011

      • CatCat
i don't know. i mean most release that have hme have "soem font type"tracktitle"someother font type" bonus track and i'd therfor put it in some track title (bonus track)
      • 2011-08-16 22842, 2011

      • reosarevok
        Oh, ok
      • 2011-08-16 22846, 2011

      • CatCat
but if it was like "foobar -BONUS TITLE-" then...
      • 2011-08-16 22813, 2011

      • reosarevok finds "bonus track" a stupid thing to add, honestly
      • 2011-08-16 22821, 2011

      • CatCat
I'd put it in as "foobar -BONUS TITLE-" actually
      • 2011-08-16 22827, 2011

      • reosarevok
I've ever seen albums with "bonus title" with only one release
      • 2011-08-16 22829, 2011

      • CatCat
        yes me too but alas
      • 2011-08-16 22830, 2011

      • luks
it's extra title information, we have a style guideline for that
      • 2011-08-16 22831, 2011

      • reosarevok
        bonus to WHAT?
      • 2011-08-16 22851, 2011

      • luks
it should be lower-cased in parentheses

      • reosarevok
CatCat, what I mean is that some times it is not a rerelease or anything

      • CatCat
      • 2011-08-16 22819, 2011

And they say some of the tracks are bonus

Ok! Could people try the "split into separate artists" stuff on http://test.musicbrainz.org. This now: only splits artist credits with a matching artist name, inserts an "edit artist credit" edit type, removes collaboration relationships, and doesn't let you enter it if there are other relationships present.
      • 2011-08-16 22846, 2011

      • ocharles
the existing edits are broken though, you probably want to avoid viewing them :)
      • 2011-08-16 22838, 2011

      • ocharles
the extended artist credit editing still needs to be done, but I thought now seemed like a good time to test
      • 2011-08-16 22850, 2011

      • nikki
ocharles: it should check the artist actually has artist credits to edit
      • 2011-08-16 22858, 2011

      • ocharles
        what do you mean?
      • 2011-08-16 22801, 2011

      • nikki
it let me enter http://test.musicbrainz.org/edit/14841441 despite the artist being empty
      • 2011-08-16 22813, 2011

      • ocharles
is that really a problem in reality?
      • 2011-08-16 22823, 2011

      • ocharles
        it doesn't break anything
      • 2011-08-16 22828, 2011

      • ocharles
it just doesn't do anything :)
      • 2011-08-16 22809, 2011

      • nikki
I'm sure you'll get bug reports if it doesn't get fixed, people don't expect the site to let them enter edits that do nothing
      • 2011-08-16 22808, 2011

      • ocharles
hmm, will look into that after lunch then
      • 2011-08-16 22847, 2011

      • nikki
(and tbh I wouldn't be surprised if someone came along and tried to make a collaboration artist go away by splitting it :P)

a gold disc means that all of the tracks in the release have been matched. A silver disc means that some tracks are missing.
      • 2011-08-16 22814, 2011

      • kepstin-laptop
(silver can also mean that some tracks are duplicated)

      • 2011-08-16 22837, 2011

      • kepstin-laptop
you're supposed to drag each file to the correct track; sometimes they get mismatched.
      • 2011-08-16 22852, 2011

      • JDD
        ok

am i deleting the double tags?
      • 2011-08-16 22827, 2011

      • kepstin-laptop
the scanning is only approximate - it tries to match the track, but sometimes it can't figure out which release it was supposed to be from. If it found the wrong release, you can use the search box in the corner to find the correct release, then click the green 'tagger' button on the website to load it.
      • 2011-08-16 22843, 2011

        cool

      • JDD
        sorry about my noob questions
      • 2011-08-16 22847, 2011

      • kepstin-laptop
JDD: you should drag the tracks from the wrong one to the correct one first.
      • 2011-08-16 22855, 2011

      • JDD
        ok

      • 2011-08-16 22840, 2011

      • JDD
and on the right the albums
      • 2011-08-16 22829, 2011

      • kepstin-laptop
so the thing you do is drag the tracks from the left side to the album that they're from on the right side.

      • JDD

      • JDD
and will it match also in rythembox?
      • 2011-08-16 22823, 2011

      • kepstin-laptop
JDD: there's a nice little howto guide in http://musicbrainz.org/doc/How_To_Tag_Files_With_… :)
      • 2011-08-16 22836, 2011

      • JDD
        thanks
      • 2011-08-16 22852, 2011

      • kepstin-laptop
JDD: once you save the files in picard, it will update the metadata in the files. Then rhythmbox will reload the files automatically and show you the updated information.
      • 2011-08-16 22825, 2011

      • JDD
ok and if i sync my ipod all the cover info will be present also?
      • 2011-08-16 22824, 2011

      • kepstin-laptop
JDD: picard only adds cover art if you have the cover art plugin enabled. You can check under Options -> Options, then the "Plugins" section to see if the Cover Art plugin is installed.
      • 2011-08-16 22835, 2011

      • JDD
        yes it is
      • 2011-08-16 22859, 2011

ok, then it should save the cover art in the files as well, and rhythmbox and your ipod should be able to use it.

ehm what does the cluster button?
      • 2011-08-16 22821, 2011

      • kepstin-laptop
the cluster button is there to help you with the unmatched tracks. It tries to figure out which unmatched tracks are from the same album, then it groups them together so they're easier to look up.
