honestly, I think it would probably make sense to just have this as a single-artist release under "Hellfish"
      • 2011-11-12 31619, 2011

      • kepstin
with the appropriate ARs from the remixes to the original recordings, of course.
      • 2011-11-12 31648, 2011

      • Leftmost
        Fair enough.
      • 2011-11-12 31615, 2011

      • reosarevok thought remixes were always supposed to be credited to the original artist? :/
      • 2011-11-12 31635, 2011

      • kepstin
reosarevok: so did I, until I couldn't find any guidelines for it.
      • 2011-11-12 31639, 2011

      • Leftmost
Well, I'm not totally convinced it's the Right Thing to do for all the tracks, but 2 and 10 perhaps.
      • 2011-11-12 31643, 2011

      • kepstin
it makes sense in most cases to do that
      • 2011-11-12 31604, 2011

      • Leftmost
What say you, reosarevok? 2 and 10 credited to original artists or to Hellfish alone? With ARs either way.
      • 2011-11-12 31630, 2011

      • kepstin
I think we need a guideline for artists on remixes :)
      • 2011-11-12 31613, 2011

      • kepstin
maybe just leave the track artists as-is for now (but split Hellfish & Producer)
      • 2011-11-12 31627, 2011

      • Leftmost
Right. Splitting Hellfish & Producer and doing an AC for Alcore.
      • 2011-11-12 31631, 2011

      • kepstin
sure that's not just a typo, missing space? :)

      • 2011-11-12 31630, 2011

      • kepstin
should be ok to credit as "Alcore"
      • 2011-11-12 31652, 2011

      • Leftmost
Aye, discogs shows a number of releases of his credited to Alcore.

you should do a "split into separate artists" edit on http://musicbrainz.org/artist/085770f0-f620-42aa-…
      • 2011-11-12 31607, 2011

      • kepstin
(that will also fix the recording artists and other releases)
      • 2011-11-12 31626, 2011

      • Leftmost
Alright. Putting in an edit to remove the current AR.
      • 2011-11-12 31607, 2011

      • kepstin
hmm. that's interesting; I didn't realize that "Hellfish & Producer" has a discogs page.

      • kepstin
now comes the question: is it a notable enough collaboration to have its own artist :)
      • 2011-11-12 31613, 2011

      • Leftmost
Personally, I wouldn't say a combined artist is justified for that sort of collaboration.
      • 2011-11-12 31657, 2011

      • Leftmost
Both are credited under their separate names, which to me gives it the sense of collaboration, as opposed to "group"

kepstin, Leftmost: thinking about it, what about crediting the tracks to whatever the release says, crediting the recordings to the original artists?
      • 2011-11-12 31656, 2011

      • CatCat
remixes to original artst.. but i know mashups the mashuper
      • 2011-11-12 31622, 2011

      • CatCat
but sometimes, oohh, sometiems peopel who more traditionally do amshups. when they do a remix of as ong, it's so differnt
      • 2011-11-12 31645, 2011

      • CatCat
it's almost a shame to call it a "remix of so and so's track" and it's like it's own work
      • 2011-11-12 31653, 2011

      • CatCat
but i still don't know though

      • 2011-11-12 31642, 2011

      • CatCat
        yea i'd do that
      • 2011-11-12 31610, 2011

      • Novarg
In my opinion, the remixer is an artist as well and should be listed as such
      • 2011-11-12 31621, 2011

      • Novarg
you can still note the original artist somewhere in the tags
      • 2011-11-12 31614, 2011

      • reosarevok
Well, the remixer *is* listed as remixer with a relationship
      • 2011-11-12 31631, 2011

      • CatCat
        yes
      • 2011-11-12 31612, 2011

      • Leftmost
reosarevok, it's not clear in this case what the release says. :P But in general, I think if we're going to allow releases to show the remixer as the artist, then recording should show similarly, and have a link to the original recording.

you can't get the track list directly from the name, because there might be multiple releases with the same name, but different track lists.
