      • neothe0ne
i can give you plenty of examples right now
      • hawke_
For what it’s worth, I agree with neothe0ne here.
      • warp
neothe0ne: the track artist doesn't say anything about the role the particular artist had on the song.
      • neothe0ne
warp: are you saying track artist = release artist?>
      • warp
neothe0ne: if there is no track artist specified on the cover, yes.
      • srotta
Exactly. We bravely assume there's a reason for putting it into a release by some artist, and if there's no information to the contrary, release artist = track artist.
      • neothe0ne
i know there are people who disagree with that.
      • people voted yes on my edits to fix the instrumental tracks there.
      • srotta
You can find people who'll disagree with anything.

      • neothe0ne
srotta, is there a _guideline_ that says track artist = release artist even if there is VERY STRONG evidence and language to say that's not true?>
      • where do you see instrumental tracks getting "Artist: the composer" in booklets
      • it'll say "Composer:" or "Written by"
      • not "Artist"
      • in fact, you barely ever see "Artist: vocalist" in booklets either
      • srotta
And those same lines can be found on any track.
      • hawke_
It’s a disc of tracks by one artist, with a track by another artist tacked on the end.
      • Which just happens to be an instrumental
      • neothe0ne
its not even a song: it sounds like the recording of a NES rpg.
      • warp
ooh, I should have a listen to that release then.
      • neothe0ne
hawke_: what would you say the track artist should be then
      • and warp , as i said in the edit
      • anyone with a Nico Nico Douga account can.
      • hawke_
        neothe0ne: I’d say it’d be the composer.
      • neothe0ne
warp, i already made hawke_'s exact point to fatih then nikki, they disagreed.
      • srotta
hawke_: It's a lot different since that's, again, soundtrack.
      • hawke_
The only difference being that the last track in my referenced album happens to have a performer rather than merely a composer
      • neothe0ne
        srotta: i don't see how it's different.
      • you can't just segregate music releases into Soundtracks and non-soundtracks
      • srotta
And still that's exactly what we're doing.
      • neothe0ne
if its an instrumental track, generally the composer becomes the artist, especially if its not a karaoke track on a single - am I wrong?
      • srotta
As well as classical and non-classical.
      • And bunch of other groupings which have slightly different rules.
      • neothe0ne
if i Am wrong, show me examples
      • hawke_
srotta: vgmdb classifies it as “Original Soundtrack”...
      • neothe0ne
i cant comment on that having not watched the anime, but that really shouldnt even be relevant to the issue here.
      • hawke_
and says “Single release from Akiko Hasegawa. "LEVEL∞" is the second ending theme of Slap-up Party: Arad Senki, anime adaptation of Dungeon Fighter Online.”
      • which suggests that even if it were relevant that it’s a sound track, it is a soundtrack.
      • srotta: What difference does it make that it’s a soundtrack anyway?
      • srotta: Soundtrack Style says: “For pre-existing non-classical music, Artist should contain the performers.”
      • srotta
hawke_: Soundtracks generally have music attributed to composer. Unless it's pop.
      • hawke_
and Akiko Hasegawa is not the performer on the last track
      • Leaving only the composer
      • neothe0ne
srotta: what would you do with a Cd that is half pop, half soundtrack then.
      • you're not going to change them all to vocalists, or all to composer, are you?>
      • hawke_
srotta: How is this not a soundtrack?
      • srotta
hawke_: I don't know, the release type says it's single, so I'm going by that.
      • hawke_
        It’s both...*shrug*
      • srotta
As I said earlier, I don't know Japanese so I won't edit or vote on those releases. I try to stay away from those since it always ends up with Great Japanese Exception, which I deeply disagree with. 8)
      • neothe0ne
srotta: there is no japanese exception here.
      • warp
(there is no japanese exception at all)
      • hawke_
As far as I can tell, it’s a single of “inspired by” music, which happens to also include at least one actual track from the soundtrack.
      • neothe0ne
      • fatih what the fuck
      • fatih
that's a bogus artist now, as your edit http://musicbrainz.org/show/edit/?editid=12505467 has failed
      • hawke_
Thus making it primarily a single, but also a soundtrack, and especially so for the last track.
      • neothe0ne
        no, there's not.
      • this discussion isn't even over fatih.
      • fatih
the voting is not over too
      • neothe0ne
show me the guideline that says you vote NO on a valid collaboration artist.
      • fatih
        ok, i'll abstain for now
      • hawke_
I kind of question that artist too, but only because of the order and way it’s joined.
      • Why “KPLECRAFT, 伊藤賢治” and not “KPLECRAFT and 伊藤賢治” or “伊藤賢治,KPLECRAFT”
      • neothe0ne
japanese uses that comma (among other punctuation marks)
      • and the booklet and website credit the collaboration in that order
      • (and the song mostly goes in that order too)
      • hawke_
        Yeah, I saw.
      • I don’t disagree, just kind of question.
      • neothe0ne
in a strict MB sense, it doesn't matter what the punctuation is because NGS allows for any string of characters to join collaborations in NGS
      • hawke_
Is there even a style guide about collaborations like that?
      • neothe0ne
        but from a language point
      • srotta
And of course, the original edit mentions it's written with slash.
      • :P
      • neothe0ne
        website vs booklet
      • booklet wins
      • i copied the website text because that's the source i provided
      • hawke_
Were I doing it, I would prefer the booklet form...but it’s not at all important, certainly not worth no-voting the collab. artist.
      • neothe0ne
hawke, the point of no-voting the collab artist was to delete the artist - but that's not the point right now
      • hawke_
        Yeah, I know.
      • neothe0ne
i assume no one has anything to add to "instrumental tacked onto a CD" right now?
      • hawke_
        I don’t.
      • neothe0ne: How about tracks 4 and 5? Are those soundtrack tracks as well?
      • neothe0ne
        i wouldnt know
      • the song "XXX" likely has nothing to do with the anime.
      • but as a purely 8-bit instrumental, it's highly likely it was used as bgm in the anime at some point
      • i dont even care about arguing tracks 4-5 right now since there's a belief that karaoke track artist = vocalist
      • but there is no logical argument to keeping track 6 as the vocalist
      • hawke_
I would tend to think it’s closer to the “classical” style rules than the soundtrack style rules...
      • being music which has a composer but no specific performer
      • neothe0ne
technically speaking, the performer is probably KPLECRAFT using an NES-like synthesizer
      • but i wouldnt know for sure.
      • KPLECRAFT is an 8-bit unit
      • hawke_
        Nod.
