If an album A is released in some year and the exact same track list is subsequently released with a different album name and different album art (album B) is the release year for album B equal to album A? See troymandt's comments in my edit http://musicbrainz.org/show/edit/?editid=7553524.

If I'm entering a release event for an album that predates CD's, if I enter "CD" as the format should I use the later release date for the CD and enter a separate release event for vinyl or is it ok to use the old date for the CD format?

Separate dates for different media.

Guysmiley: think of it this way - that cd, lp, whatever, has info that is singular to it. So the date, the media type, etc, is all specific to just that one physical media.

So just as you wouldn’t mix and match the dates of A and B, you wouldn’t mix and match the media types with the dates.

Right. I just thought that in cases where the CD format is the only releae event it makes the album look newer than it is. I understand the correct rationale, though.

just means there’s also perhaps an older date for a different type of media
