I have one release where it was either make a massive & artist of the like 20 different artists who were playing with a band, or just use the band listing and put the 20 other artists in the track annotation

the artist field would have been longer than the 255 character limit
chapter 11, and not 7, but it's a move in the right direction :)

looks like the SEC may end up involved though - a decently large amount of last minute trading right before the filing, which normally indicates insider trading... (stock price dropped 50%, the filing cuts off trading the moment it's filed...)

I'm trying things out for the first time and I'm having Picard do audio analysis of all my music files. I have the album by Blue Man Group called The Complex.

It put the files into two different albums. It seems that there are two albums in the database that are nearly identical, except for the final track. Is this sort of thing normal? Is the last track being so different likely an error, or is it a typical sort of thing?

Guysmiley: I'm just waiting for something that can be answered with a link.

The final track also has a similar name, but one version is several minutes longer than the other.

kmccoy: Unfortunately lots of artists release the same album with loads of stupid variations, unfortunately Picard can't pick for you, you have to do it yourself.

kmccoy
I read the editing FAQ, but it says that albums should only be merged if the track lengths are very similar.

kmccoy
Okay, so I just do it on my end, and the database is probably not in error?
2007-09-15 25813, 2007
FauxFaux
Unfortunately the database is probably fine. :)

The database isn't in error. There really are two albums. If you cluster the tracks and use Picard to search it'll suggest the right album for all the tracks.

FauxFaux
There are a "few" duplicate releases, but we're working on those. ¬_¬
FauxFaux: I followed your link from the other day (and I think you just pasted it there). Are those albums duplicate because they're of identical length?
The last thing I saw directed at me was "<FauxFaux> kmccoy: Unfortunately lots of artists release the same album with loads of stupid variations, unfortunately Picard can't pick for you, you have to do it yourself." -- if anyone else said anything after that to me, could you repeat please?

Guysmiley: though there's at least 2 in that list which are not actually duplicates, so you need to actually check that they are dupes, and not transliteration/translation/just plain funky before merging

the three I can think of that are on there that are ok are the Nirvana one, the Cornell Class Notes one, and the MB Test artist one

i would always verify duplicates before doing a merge.

One box set I'll have to take a look at, as something seems funky, but all the others are ok - just a result of having a uber-complete discography, with all the overlapping boxes and such (and hopefully NGS lets me merge those above the individual release merge level)
