btw, the french version of "in the mood for love" was entered with the dialogue tracks assigned to the track artists to begin with

which is how it appears on the cover, if I'm not mistaken
2007-11-17 32147, 2007

what is on the liner is inconsequential though.

should anyone come along and change those to [dialogue] they would certainly get a no vote from me, with anything less than an official guideline to support it
2007-11-17 32121, 2007
brianfreud
yes, but you changed them FROM dialogue as an autoedit
2007-11-17 32116, 2007
brianfreud
on the basis that they are monologues, and thus not dialogues, thus changing to performer...
2007-11-17 32100, 2007
foolip
that I do not deny
2007-11-17 32110, 2007
brianfreud
but the premise there is flawedc
2007-11-17 32118, 2007
brianfreud
a monologue IS a dialogue
2007-11-17 32135, 2007
foolip
that may be the case, but that's not what we've been discussing here
2007-11-17 32146, 2007
foolip
so what do you think should be done?
2007-11-17 32102, 2007
ojnkpjg
settle it with violence
2007-11-17 32143, 2007
brianfreud
yes, but you changed it from what is the agreed standard for soundtracks, and just here said " <foolip> should anyone come along and change those to [dialogue] they would certainly get a no vote from me, with anything less than an official guideline to support it" - hence preventing autoediting it back, as there is dissent, even if that autoedit would revert the autoedit you made on flawed logic
2007-11-17 32103, 2007
foolip
since there is no guideline, I would expect no votes from those that do not agree
2007-11-17 32112, 2007
brianfreud
you miss my point...
2007-11-17 32117, 2007

I do
2007-11-17 32127, 2007
foolip
come again?
2007-11-17 32144, 2007
foolip
are we talking about being an auto-editor or about soundtrack/score/compilation style here?
2007-11-17 32152, 2007
brianfreud
You changed it without a vote. Now you say if someone wants to fix it back to the agreed standard, it has to go through a vote, and you will challenge that vote.
2007-11-17 32136, 2007
brianfreud
Mostly the latter - but in terms of autoeditor, you autoedited it away from the standard. If I autoedit it back, I break the rules, as you dissent. So, I have to put it to a vote, and you're saying you will challenge that vote.
2007-11-17 32136, 2007
drsaunde
ojnkpjg: LMAO
2007-11-17 32137, 2007
foolip
no, I'm saying that if someone had changed the OTHER version which was already credited to Jackie Leung, then I would vote no
2007-11-17 32111, 2007
foolip
had I been aware of the issues at large I would not have made those autoedits
2007-11-17 32118, 2007
foolip
I could revert one of them and make a non-auto-edit, and them change the rest according to the outcome
2007-11-17 32129, 2007
foolip
what would you prefer?
2007-11-17 32105, 2007
bplatt has to run off for a bit
2007-11-17 32114, 2007
foolip
I'm not looking for an edit-war or any other kinds of wars
2007-11-17 32115, 2007
brianfreud
I'd prefer it revert to the accepted standard, but I think if you really want to debate this, style is the right place, not an edit that may or may not be noticed by those who deal with soundtracks
2007-11-17 32151, 2007
ojnkpjg
do you know what's not smart?
2007-11-17 32100, 2007
ojnkpjg
making incremental backups over about 550 dvds
2007-11-17 32105, 2007
ojnkpjg
and not keeping track on what's on any of the discs
2007-11-17 32109, 2007
ojnkpjg
and then having a hard disk go
2007-11-17 32110, 2007

is this a defacto standard, or what parts of this is in fact mandated by an official guideline?
2007-11-17 32115, 2007

i'm down to the low 100s!
2007-11-17 32113, 2007

as for an official guideline, as said, the closest there is is "composer is performer (by the long-time-now soundtrackstyle proposal)", so [dialogue] picks up where there is no such composer, to avoid the exact same mess/issues that using performers would otherwise cause - see my above 10 name example
2007-11-17 32135, 2007
brianfreud
*s/"composer is performer"/"composer is artist"
2007-11-17 32100, 2007
foolip
composer is performer, except if the track is music and there is someone singing?
there are quite a few soundtracks where a well-known artist sang a song (and also released it themselves), so they're not always credited to the composer
2007-11-17 32122, 2007
brianfreud
MClemo: I don't know the release, but that does look wrong...
CSG has this same problem, but whereas the "rock meets classical" (ELP / Mussorgsky, for example) issue is minor in the % of classical releases, that same type of issue comes up all the time in soundtracks - all of these are examples of that same problem
2007-11-17 32145, 2007
foolip
but to force everything that happens to be called a soundtrack into the same mould and not allowing the most natural credits even when the artists are all in the database...
2007-11-17 32112, 2007
drsaunde
Walk the Line is the same as the Dylan biopic I mentioned earlier
2007-11-17 32121, 2007

or the Joy Division movie soundtrack
2007-11-17 32127, 2007

I was just confused by the "composer as artists for soundtracks, not the performers" thing

so I will revert the first of those edits, redo it as a normal edit and post a pointer to the style mailing list
2007-11-17 32121, 2007

would that be acceptable?

that one's wierd about it though - someone went through and cleaned it up, AR'd it, removed all that once. Then someone else tried to edit the () junk back in, and votes failed (thankfully). Then someone else autoedited the () junk back in anyhow :P
