[00:19] brianfreud I wonder if I'm the only one who has ever wished "add track" and "remove track" also had newbie filters, like "add NAT" does... no, brianfreud, youre not the only one, i wish that too. actually i wished that in high Q its NOT possible to edit them.
can i interest anyone in a debate about if and when the arranger/transcriber of a work should make it in the track title?

i dont see why the arranger shoudl be in the tracktitle
2007-11-27 33131, 2007
CatCat
can see that if it is a remix
2007-11-27 33144, 2007

would you call the arranger info "version" info
2007-11-27 33146, 2007
CatCat
?
2007-11-27 33104, 2007
CatCat
like "this is the "name of arranger"'s version"
2007-11-27 33120, 2007
CatCat
its significant to understand wich versino of the track it is
2007-11-27 33130, 2007

if so, then ok, but else, no

CatCat: yeah it is sort of a remix. Busoni took Bach's work for organ, and transcribed it for piano. :)

for classical there is proper ars, there is no need for track things, in classical the rackname is long enough as it is
2007-11-27 33104, 2007
brianfreud
we don't have an AR for that though...

brianfreud: been using instrumentator AR
2007-11-27 33137, 2007
xlotlu
brianfreud: still I put (transcribed: Ferruccio Busoni) in the track name, because on a lot of releases he is credited as part author
2007-11-27 33149, 2007
xlotlu
i.e.: Bach - Busoni
2007-11-27 33116, 2007
xlotlu
and I've also seen cases of Busoni as single artist
2007-11-27 33123, 2007
brianfreud
Isn't there rather a difference between an instrumentator (takes a work (ie, symphony) and adds a line for another instrument) and what is done to make a transcription/reduction/redaction?
2007-11-27 33135, 2007
xlotlu
brianfreud: closest to a proper AR there is, though
2007-11-27 33123, 2007
xlotlu
and transcribing from multiple instruments to a single one, or from organ to piano is imho a lot more complicated than instrumentation in that sense

2007-11-27 33127, 2007
luks
because we have no musicbrainz group here on freenode :)
I see it with 249 releases, would have expected twice that (or more), unless maybe you don't count VA releases

nice :)

xlotlu
thus my calling it "highly interesting" :)
2007-11-27 33116, 2007
MClemo
320 kbps mp3s is about the dumbest thing. totally sucks for portables where lame -V 5 is good enough (for me) and for classical you often don't have much higher bitrates with lossless anyway
2007-11-27 33142, 2007
xlotlu
MClemo: re-encode it for portable
2007-11-27 33144, 2007
MClemo
transcoding from mp3 to mp3 is not so good an idea either
2007-11-27 33141, 2007
brianfreud
I'd probably mp3repack it, turn it into apx V0 (without transcoding)

1.29 € / track; avg. 11€ / album. and they say it will start with 600 titles not on sale anymore
2007-11-27 33112, 2007
MClemo
yeah, that's the interesting part, that titles are including they don't sell anymore
2007-11-27 33144, 2007
xlotlu
i'll probably be one of their customers in a few hours :)
2007-11-27 33151, 2007
MClemo
I average around 8€ maybe for new CDs (not so much classical, though)
2007-11-27 33101, 2007
MClemo
I'd maybe buy something there that's not for sale elsewhere
2007-11-27 33106, 2007
xlotlu
MClemo: what's your take on symphonick's criticizing the arranger in the track title?
2007-11-27 33141, 2007
MClemo
there's an AR for the arranger
2007-11-27 33152, 2007
MClemo
do you have the link to the edit? or was this in irc?
2007-11-27 33125, 2007
xlotlu
MClemo: it came up (again) on the buchlein one
2007-11-27 33144, 2007
brianfreud
If I get the discussion xlotlu - MClemo, sounds a lot like the discussion we had a week or so ago about the "contains theme from x by y" "is a transcription of x by y" etc
