MartinRudat likes programming, nobody asks you to cite your sources... they just want to know that it compiles, tests correctly, and is properly documented.

...then again, I suppose there's still the whole licencing thing, too...
2007-08-14 22623, 2007
MartinRudat
I suppose if I were to quote stuff regularly, I'd probably want to have something that automatically formats a block-quote, and an appropriate citation...
MartinRudat hmms at http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/AR ... I thought that I made that a CandidateForDeletion ages ago... or was it created after I finished marking redirection pages for deletion...
2007-08-14 22616, 2007
MartinRudat
hmm, it was made after my CfD spree.

hmm... now begins MartinRudat's CfD spree '07... =)

MartinRudat
hmm... I wonder if the new moinmoin allows for renaming users...
2007-08-14 22624, 2007
MartinRudat
...there's more than a few people who have set up redirections from a CamelCase name to their lowercase username... it would be nice if they could actually change their user name 'round... then again, for signing stuff, you can just go @SIG@ regardless of what your username happens to be.

maybe try #last.fm? :)
2007-08-14 22644, 2007

iirc that is a FAQ and the answer is no.

but that's staff no?

Muz: thanks, i'll add it to my list

luks: is there a way with picard to make it not copy duplicates when moving & renaming?
2007-08-14 22645, 2007
luks
no, but what would you want it to do instead?
2007-08-14 22653, 2007
luks
and by what definition of duplicate?
2007-08-14 22607, 2007
deadchip
luks: ok first, definition of duplicate means the same track
2007-08-14 22615, 2007
luks
bite-wise?
2007-08-14 22618, 2007
deadchip
luks: yeah
2007-08-14 22632, 2007
deadchip
furthermore, as what to do instead, i can think of 2 ways
2007-08-14 22643, 2007
deadchip
either specify a directory into which to copy duplicates
2007-08-14 22600, 2007
deadchip
it would get the same layout as the default target directory to copy to but instead would just receive the dupes
2007-08-14 22618, 2007
deadchip
or, but that's probably worse just leave them in the original place and don't even rename them
2007-08-14 22624, 2007
deadchip
i want to remove the MB tagging from BMP and encourage people to use picard instead
2007-08-14 22633, 2007
luks
o_O
2007-08-14 22637, 2007
luks
why?
2007-08-14 22659, 2007
deadchip
luks: lol well because it's much more limited in funcitonality
2007-08-14 22619, 2007
luks
well, amarok is even more limited and people seem to like it
2007-08-14 22624, 2007
deadchip
hrm
2007-08-14 22633, 2007
deadchip
well ok maybe i'll keep it but i use picard myself only now
2007-08-14 22637, 2007
deadchip
haha
2007-08-14 22650, 2007
deadchip
i just found that i have dupes of approx. 10% of all my files
2007-08-14 22658, 2007
deadchip
it would be cool if picard could deal with them :)
2007-08-14 22610, 2007
deadchip
well just a suggestion
2007-08-14 22621, 2007
luks
dealing with duplicate files and duplicate audio is a different problem
2007-08-14 22623, 2007
deadchip
would be noice
2007-08-14 22636, 2007
deadchip
luks: yeah i meant, not duplicate as in filename, but really duplicate audio
2007-08-14 22637, 2007
luks
I think most people would be more interested in the latter
i just wanted to throw in the problem (i guess N people have before me though)
2007-08-14 22623, 2007
MartinRudat
...I plan to do the duplicate search by outputting a link farm that goes /Artist/Track/trackid, which links back to the original files...
2007-08-14 22610, 2007
MartinRudat
'course if we get track linking, I chould just go /trackid/link to find duplicates... =)
2007-08-14 22628, 2007
Cord has some scripts that report me duplicate puids and duplicate artist/track/length-groups.
2007-08-14 22641, 2007
deadchip
well i could write something using libofa too
2007-08-14 22648, 2007
deadchip
but picard _already goes_ over all the files
2007-08-14 22657, 2007
MartinRudat
I have two full copies of the encoded audio, plus an xml dump of the data for each discid, and a script that applies the latter to one of the former to produce a tree full of nicely named, tagged files.

2007-08-14 22609, 2007

2007-08-14 22622, 2007
deadchip
well the overclock does work
2007-08-14 22638, 2007
deadchip
it's a 2-core athlon 64 3800+, oveclocking it from 2GHz to 2.4GHz _does_ have an effect
2007-08-14 22650, 2007
deadchip
however, when it's as hot here as today, it just doesn't work when running 2 instances of picard
2007-08-14 22623, 2007
luks
I don't believe it has visible effect unless you run CPU-sentive applications on it all the time
2007-08-14 22602, 2007
MartinRudat
I appreciate the fact that this is the first computer I've had in years that doesn't fall over in mid-summer when running at the rated speed... even with an out-sized heatsink...
2007-08-14 22648, 2007
MartinRudat
luks: it wouldn't... then again, given the amount of cpu that windows itself eats... =)
