when you do like a 14 day hiking trip through the white mountains, water anywhere becomes important

Mountain streams aren't the same as lakes.
2007-05-04 12431, 2007
BrianFreud
nah, purification tablets and a purifyer pump
2007-05-04 12446, 2007
ajh
You can only use tablets so much, and pumps are mostly good.
2007-05-04 12446, 2007
BrianFreud
mountain lakes, more commonly
2007-05-04 12458, 2007
BrianG
i have no probalems with that stuff, but i wouldn't drink water directly out of a lake
2007-05-04 12414, 2007
ajh
Oxidation purification is best but not in the winter. We end up having to boil everything and melt from ice.
2007-05-04 12423, 2007
BrianFreud
that was always why I liked Lake George though - it was so clean, you didn't have to deal with the tablets taste
2007-05-04 12434, 2007
BrianFreud
just pull it, boil it, drink it
2007-05-04 12454, 2007
ajh
boiling works for any biocontaminant except prions.
2007-05-04 12406, 2007

not too many cows living in the middle of Lake George... :P
2007-05-04 12427, 2007
ajh
yeah, just saying :)
2007-05-04 12432, 2007
BrianFreud
lol
2007-05-04 12450, 2007
ajh
there's no good solution for heavy metals other than resin filters though.
2007-05-04 12457, 2007
ajh
what a pain.
2007-05-04 12412, 2007
BrianFreud
just don't hike near quarrys
2007-05-04 12422, 2007
ajh
Or bike across Siberia? :)
2007-05-04 12429, 2007
ajh
or any mining area.
2007-05-04 12433, 2007
ajh
or drink from James Bay.
2007-05-04 12434, 2007
ajh
etc.
2007-05-04 12440, 2007
BrianFreud
or any farming area...
2007-05-04 12442, 2007
BrianFreud
lol
2007-05-04 12454, 2007
ajh
Yeah, when you think about it there are a lot of places it's a problem.
2007-05-04 12406, 2007
BrianFreud
yeah, never though about it
2007-05-04 12409, 2007
ajh
Most people depend on minimal exposure, but if I'm doing a 6 month tour...
2007-05-04 12419, 2007
BrianFreud
makes sense

{global notice} Hi all! freenode is currently looking for both main rotation servers and a hub in Europe. if you are interested in sponsoring a server for freenode please see: http://freenode.net/hosting_ircd.shtml Thank you for your patience, and thank you for using freenode!
2007-05-04 12434, 2007
ajh
Some idiot put all the big mountains in 3rd world countries.
2007-05-04 12417, 2007
BrianFreud
you hike the really big ones?
2007-05-04 12440, 2007
ajh
hike, ice climb, technical freeclimb, aid climb, ski, etc.
2007-05-04 12456, 2007
BrianFreud
always tended to stay with the smaller ones myself - Killington's probally the tallest I climbed
2007-05-04 12407, 2007
ajh
Mostly under 10K though, but that's been just because that's where I've been.
2007-05-04 12428, 2007
ajh
Oh if there's existing album art in a directory will this embed it?
2007-05-04 12437, 2007
BrianFreud
into the files?
2007-05-04 12441, 2007
ajh
yeah
2007-05-04 12446, 2007
ajh
if embed is checked
2007-05-04 12403, 2007
BrianG
not that i've noticed
2007-05-04 12404, 2007
BrianFreud
yeah - if you set it right, it'll embed if not already there, and also save to file in dir
2007-05-04 12415, 2007
BrianG
are you talking about picard?
2007-05-04 12420, 2007
ajh
yeah I checked both, just doing a no-tags run to fix art.
2007-05-04 12420, 2007
BrianFreud
yes
2007-05-04 12430, 2007
BrianFreud
wait
2007-05-04 12437, 2007
BrianFreud
so you're running no tags, but you want to embed?
2007-05-04 12446, 2007
BrianFreud
remember, the embedded art IS a tag...
2007-05-04 12451, 2007
ajh
I've got embed checked.
2007-05-04 12408, 2007
BrianFreud
right, but you turned off one level higher than embed
2007-05-04 12410, 2007
ajh
I don't want it messing up tags I don't have time to check each of 4000 of them.
2007-05-04 12422, 2007
ajh
OK I'll have to run something else to embed after then I guess.
2007-05-04 12428, 2007
ajh
no biggie, good to know.
2007-05-04 12452, 2007
BrianFreud
it should work, if you turn off removing existing tags, turn on tagging, and turn on embed
2007-05-04 12400, 2007
BrianFreud
may still have some other tags get written tho
2007-05-04 12407, 2007
ajh
yeah, there are a lot.

might be worth suggesting to luks, a no-tag embed mode
2007-05-04 12413, 2007
ajh
is submitting working again more reliably? Got a crapload of them to do.
2007-05-04 12409, 2007
ajh
again, having a full album sort mode would have turned what I'm doing into a 2 minute job, not an hour.
2007-05-04 12415, 2007
BrianFreud
been rather solid for a few days for me
2007-05-04 12445, 2007
ajh
ok, cool.
2007-05-04 12406, 2007
ajh
still missing about 300 inserts though, spent the week going through everything looking for them.

ruaok: I brought up weighted voting on the mailing list the other day... I don't suppose you saw it?
2007-05-04 12417, 2007

I haven't caught up on that yet. real life has interfered in the last couple of days. I'll catch up over the weekend.

okay, no worries was just curious... I think it's an idea that we should seriously consider
2007-05-04 12401, 2007

oh neat!
2007-05-04 12440, 2007

Weighted voting sounds familiar
2007-05-04 12450, 2007

I think it'd be awesome

That's what triggered the idea forme
2007-05-04 12459, 2007
cooperaa_
we could implement quasi-AutoEditor-ness using it
2007-05-04 12418, 2007
cooperaa_
edits could pass after receiving a certain "weight" of votes in either the yes or no direction
2007-05-04 12442, 2007
cooperaa_
this would protect data from being deleted as a new group of users couldn't rally enough weight to pass the removal edits
2007-05-04 12436, 2007
Muz likes audio editing across 3 monitors

BrianG: Looks like somewhere in transmission the datafeed got screwed - it still happen if you try to refresh those release?
2007-05-04 12450, 2007
BrianG
i refreshed them before taking the screenshot
2007-05-04 12453, 2007
BrianG
same thing
2007-05-04 12409, 2007
BrianFreud
hmmm, same thing if you switch to the uk mirror?
2007-05-04 12417, 2007
BrianFreud
cooperaa_: I like the idea. Maybe, also, if there were some way to increase/decrease certain classes of releases per editor? (Japanese, Soundtracks, Classical, etc - those that are somewhat more complex and detailed?)
2007-05-04 12437, 2007
BrianFreud
power to edit those special classes, I mean

BrianFreud: I think we could make it very complex and have an editor's weight change based on which artist they are editing
2007-05-04 12422, 2007
BrianG
yes
2007-05-04 12431, 2007
BrianG
uk.mb.org?
2007-05-04 12433, 2007
cooperaa_
if it's someone they've edited often
2007-05-04 12412, 2007
BrianG
that can't be right :)
2007-05-04 12426, 2007
BrianG
BrianFreud: yes. it's wanting to look up the album G; a; s; f; a; c; e
2007-05-04 12434, 2007
BrianFreud
Well, take bootlegs, for example. Not to brag, but I have become somewhat expert on the LBS and LiveTrackStyle proposals. But if we switch to classical, I'm currently clueless. It starts to smack a little of "genres", but some way to mark an add as "what type of release is this?" (bootleg, regular, classical, japanese, etc) - so not editing power per artist, but per release category "grouping"
2007-05-04 12456, 2007
BrianFreud
then you could subscribe to all "classical" releases, so none can slip through, etc
2007-05-04 12422, 2007
BrianFreud
BrianG: try this - something I've found works when picard gets locked up like that... move one track back to the left side, open the details view on it, switch to the advanced tags tab, and delete all the MB tags. Then try doing a auto-lookup, and see if the release loads correctly
{global notice} hi all! I need to do some emergency maintenence on 2 rotation servers to help get more rotation servers back into the rotation. This will be mildly disruptive, and i will give more information in wallops as i go. /mode your_nick +w to see them. Thank you for your patience, and thank you for using freenode!
