BrianF: Thought you were getting soundtracks in
      • drsaunde just entered Inspector Clouseau
      • BrianFreud
yeah, just making some hard drive space
      • and testing the lastest version of the naming script :P
      • have it doing duplicate checking correctly now :)
      • HiFructose
your naming script is quite large heh
      • HiFructose still hasn't quite figured out how to use picardqt
      • dholmes
Hm? It works pretty much the same as the old Picard'
      • HiFructose
yeah well i haven't figured out that one either
      • dholmes
        Ah
      • Anything in particular tripping you up?
      • HiFructose
        hmm
      • basically
      • HiFructose starts picard
      • ok so it has 28 unmatched files
      • and
      • uh well call me dumb, but i just don't even know where to start
      • dholmes
        Okay
      • Well, the easiest way would be to select the unmatched files and click "Analyze" on the toolbar
      • HiFructose
mind you though, i have an own MB/PUID based retagger *written* myself in our app
      • i just want to say, i know how this stuff all works in the backend
      • dholmes
        Oh
      • HiFructose
but i can't quite figure out how to _use_ picard
      • lol
      • i really don't wanna troll or such, i just can't get it to do something
      • if i use analyze, i figure it tries to find a PUID and a matching track id
      • dholmes
Well, if "Analyze" works, the songs should be moved to albums on the right side. It might make some mistakes though, and it might not work
      • HiFructose
then it creates an album tree branch at the right hand side, if not already existing, and places the track in there
      • that's about what i've figured out
      • dholmes
        Yeah
      • HiFructose
ok but other than analyzing, there's no go?
      • in my tagger, people can, if they want to, select a matching release manually
      • dholmes
No, if that doesn't work, then click the track and click "Lookup"
      • Then a web browser should open, and you can select an album there by clicking the "Tagger" icons that should appear on the web site
      • That adds the album to the right side
      • HiFructose
        ah
      • ok now i have 1 album with 11 tracks, of which it seems it found matching information for 10, but not for 1
      • actually i don't know what the icons exactly mean
      • sec.
      • HiFructose makes a screenshot
      • dholmes
Yeah, sometimes it'll be like that'
      • And sometimes if there are multiple versions of an album, it can get confusing
      • BrianFreud
        dholmes: yep :P
      • it even has its own wikipage now :P
      • dholmes
Maybe it needs some usability love
      • HiFructose
      • here ^
      • you see the selected row?
      • why is the icon different from the other ones and what do they both mean anyway? heh
      • dholmes
        Nice
      • Is that Compiz or Beryl? ;)
      • HiFructose
        erm that's beryl
      • BrianFreud
ok, that means that track wasn't found when matching for puids
      • so it either matched to a different release, on the right, or it's still in the list on the left
      • dholmes
Yeah. If you can find the missing track on the left, you can drag/drop it to the track on the right
      • BrianFreud
either way if you find it you can drag it to that spot
      • HiFructose
        couldn't find PUID for
      • BrianFreud
ok, so if you drag it over, assuming that MusicIP has seen that track at least once before, it now will have a puid, and the "Submit PUIDs" button up top will light up
      • HiFructose
wow ok that works all quite differently from how i coded it
      • dholmes
As for the icon question, the green bars represent how close a match picard thinks it is. If it's green and full, it's likely a correct match
      • Note that at least on my system, that bit is buggy and it sometimes gives full green bars erroneously
      • BrianFreud
lol, and on mine, I never see anything but red bars :P
      • dholmes
Yeah, well, it's pre-release software, what can you do? ;)
      • BrianFreud
        yup
      • I get red even when it's the source for a cluster add release :P
      • track "01" doesn't seem to match very well to track "1"
      • HiFructose
well PUID calculation is by my experience like 99% correct always anyway
      • i wrote a gstreamer element to calculate PUIDs using libofa, and it just sometimes fails to find a PUID even if it seems to exist for that track
      • very very rarely, but it sometimes happens
      • ojnkpjg
i've seen it happen lots of times
      • i think libofa is buggy
      • i think it can't cope with audio files with a frequency above 44.1k
      • HiFructose
        hmm
      • drsaunde
        ojnkpjg: ping
      • just sent you a msg...not sure what to do
      • HiFructose
        submit puids stays insensitive
      • i guess it doesn't update when you enter credentials once it has already started
      • i mean, doesn't update the state of the submit puids button or "action" (don't know what the Qt term for 'actions' is)
      • BrianFreud
So the button didn't light up when you manually matched the file?
      • HiFructose
        nope
      • BrianFreud
        ok
      • first, have you entered username/pw?
      • by the way drsaunde: the afforementioned wikipage: http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/BrianFreud/CrazyPic...
      • ojnkpjg
drsaunde, i think just add the same info
      • i took that info from my 1997 cd
      • drsaunde
okay...wasn't sure if that was unnessicary duplication
      • but i guess they are seperate release events with just with the same UPC etc
      • brianF: You have me confused...I have never used PicardQT, so I don't know why you want me to look at that link
      • HiFructose
        BrianFreud: yeah
      • BrianFreud: well, i entered it -after- it found the match
      • it's just a simple logic glitch
      • it doesn't enable submission when you enter credentials after something to submit is present
      • BrianFreud
HiFructose: Ok. So you manually matched the file, and u/p is entered, but the button didn't light up?
      • HiFructose
        BrianFreud: yeah
      • BrianFreud
        ok
      • try something - right click on the file, and choose details
      • see if you have a tag entry for "puid"
      • a puid may not exist for the file
      • legilson joined the channel
      • HiFructose
        yeah there is no puid
      • in details
      • BrianFreud
        ok
      • HiFructose
        but...
      • the track has a green checkmark icon
      • BrianFreud
and you did run analyse on it?
      • HiFructose
        whatever that means in picard..
      • yeah
      • BrianFreud
        ok
      • that means that musicip has never seen the file
      • HiFructose
        hmm
      • weird how the rest of the album have PUIDs
      • HiFructose checks it in BMP
      • sec
      • BrianFreud
don't worry about it - it just means that picardqt, when it fingerprinted for a puid, didn't get a match back from musicip
      • Amblin- joined the channel
      • :) Only 6/25ths in, and my script already found me 4 gb of dupes :)
      • HiFructose
        yeah indeed
      • the 7th file just has no PUID
      • that's freaking odd
      • BrianFreud
well, you can either ignore it and save it now,
      • HiFructose
here's a theora video of how BMP does the release finding:
      • BrianFreud
or run it through musicip and re-manually match it tomorrow night, when it has a puid, and then you'll be able to submit the puid
      • HiFructose
      • BrianFreud
        ogg file?
      • won't play...
      • HiFructose
        yeah it's theora encode
      • +d
      • might not play
      • esp. on windows i guess
      • BrianFreud
I have ogg codecs installed - I use ogg as my normal format
      • I guess just not whatever codec this is in
      • does BMP submit to MusicIP like the windows MusicIP client?
      • HiFructose
        hmm no
      • it can only submit found PUID <-> track id pairs
      • BrianFreud
ok. Is there a MusicIP client for your os?
