This isn't directly related to musicbrainz since I don't think that a release can contain more than one CD and instead the titles get changed to something like This Album (Disc 1) and This Album (Disc 2) with two release IDs for it. But, if it was to support multi-disc albums, then would it make sense to have a disc artist for such an album?
BrianG
?
are all the tracks by the same artist?
errorlevel
I don't know. But, I can imagine an album that has Disc 1 as being a regular album disc and then a Disc 2 that has remixes of the stuff on Disc 1 but by different artists. It seems like it would make sense to change the Artist for Disc 2 to Various Artists.
BrianG
no leave the artist name
as the disc artist
errorlevel
Okay. I wonder if there have ever been any multi-disc releases that had one disc by one artist and the other disc by another. Perhaps something like a split album with two discs.
warp
errorlevel: probably.
errorlevel: there's lots of vinyl releases with one side by one artist and the other by another artist :)

The last stuff on records that I ever had were the little records that were included with kids books that were essentially an etched page that you took out of the book. =)
So, they were a bit before my time.
warp
peculiar.
most of the records i purchase were manufactured this century atleast :)
errorlevel
Well, I don't have a record player, either. So that plays (pun-intended) into it. =)
Shepard: But what if a release is considered to contain multiple discs rather than just have a disc to release mapping? Would it make sense then to give the disc an artist property as well as give the release an artist property?
Shepard: That's the question I have.

hi shep
now im stuck arguing with the guy who imported that messy german aggro
srotta
errorlevel: I'd say yes - we already define that, for example, release type of each disc on a multi-disc release is decided independently.
errorlevel: Having a disc artist would be a logical extension.
Plus, I do have (at least) one release that has three discs where the third disc is by a separate artist.
errorlevel
=) Thanks.
BrianG
i hate boxed sets taht are just repackaged releases that are sold seperately
SenRepus
just another example of capitalism
srotta
Well, no different from compilations, really. It just takes the compiling one level up.
