eclecticus: a cluster is tracks with the same album tag, generally

acid2: is an album and a tag the same thing?
2008-02-12 04306, 2008
acid2
yea, files sorry
2008-02-12 04321, 2008
acid2
eclecticus: A tag is just a peice of metadata, title, artist, album, year, etc
2008-02-12 04330, 2008
luks
it's just a way to group files together, to make it easier to move them around
2008-02-12 04337, 2008
eclecticus
ah
2008-02-12 04319, 2008
eclecticus
i bought some albums online, and imported them to my iTunes, and it doesnt recognize some of the names and album artwork correctly
2008-02-12 04332, 2008
acid2
In what way?
2008-02-12 04343, 2008
eclecticus
for one of the artists, iTunes found the artwork for 1 album, but not the other album - both by the same Artist
2008-02-12 04359, 2008
luks
you mean after tagging with picard?
2008-02-12 04312, 2008
luks
or just itunes?
2008-02-12 04317, 2008
eclecticus
I thought MusicBrainz Picard might be able to fix it, and I liked the idea of being able to contribute by adding and editing more music info
2008-02-12 04335, 2008
eclecticus
this was before i downloaded Picard
2008-02-12 04346, 2008
luks
first thing to do, if you use itunes, set picard to write ID3v2.3 tags
2008-02-12 04354, 2008
luks
options -> tags -> ID3

eclecticus: in itunes go to ->Advanced -> Get album artwork
2008-02-12 04313, 2008
eclecticus
yllona: i did, itunes says it cant find it
2008-02-12 04338, 2008
yllona
eclecticus: or go to amazon for the album, and paste the album artwork into itunes
2008-02-12 04355, 2008
eclecticus
is it as easy as right click, save image as.. ?
2008-02-12 04356, 2008
luks
eclecticus: probably the simplest way to use picard is to load files, click 'Cluster', then click on the cluster and click 'Lookup'
2008-02-12 04311, 2008
yllona
eclecticus: yep. that easy
2008-02-12 04324, 2008
eclecticus
when I add information to music brainz, do I have to be on the website, or can i do it from within Picard
2008-02-12 04342, 2008
luks
you can only add info to MB from the website
2008-02-12 04303, 2008
yllona
eclecticus: also when you get the receipt from the itunes store, click on the feedback link, to let them knw tht you couldn't download the album artwork
2008-02-12 04319, 2008
eclecticus
I didn't buy it from iTunes, screw that
2008-02-12 04349, 2008
yllona
eclecticus: oh, sorry i was confused. snag the artwork from Amazon then.
and let mp3fiesta know that album artwork isnt embedded in the MP3 files.
2008-02-12 04325, 2008
eclecticus
ahhh good idea, i didnt know the album artwork was inside the music files

"<luks> you can only add info to MB from the website"
2008-02-12 04304, 2008
yllona
eclecticus: yes. there's a field in the MP3 ID3 tag for album artwork
2008-02-12 04344, 2008
eclecticus
luks: that stinks
2008-02-12 04346, 2008
yllona
itunes stores artwork separately from the file tho (good idea too)
2008-02-12 04300, 2008
eclecticus
yllona: whats the benefit of that
2008-02-12 04304, 2008
luks
eclecticus: why? the website has a lot of editing tools picard will never have
2008-02-12 04314, 2008
eclecticus
it's clunky
2008-02-12 04311, 2008
yllona
eclecticus: if you have an ipod or music player that doesn't support support still images or video, the album artwork will not be loaded onto the device from itunes
2008-02-12 04330, 2008
eclecticus has quit
2008-02-12 04338, 2008
yllona
eclecticus: album artwork for itunes is stored in the folder Music->iTunes->Album Artwork. For example, my album artwork folder is 540 MB. no need to load that onto an older non-video ipod

I prefer the artwork to be embedded in the file. Then if I ever move the music files (which I do alot) the artwork follows without having to worry about a separate folder or file.

Kerensky97_work: itunes will move art work for you. if that's what you want. i also download TV from itunes, so i don't want the artwork to move onto my ipod(s). especially the older ones i use the in car, or in the office

yllona: If you do a copy/paste of your music folder (just the music, not the album art) to another drive does iTunes move the art for you?
2008-02-12 04308, 2008
Kerensky97_work
BrianG: Yeah, I use that. It it pretty nice, I just wish it had more info.
