I'd say "It's Not too Bad, Take 1 (Santa Isabel demo)

I'd say "It's Not Too Bad (take 1: Santa Isabel demo)".
2008-02-19 05036, 2008
plzstopit
Is that like..the rules or is that your personal preference?
2008-02-19 05053, 2008

Or ... "(take 1, Santa Isabel demo)"
2008-02-19 05022, 2008

"(take 1, Santa Isabel demo)" probably looks best

The labels aren't even consistant. :(

Actually I'd probably lose some of that information and move it into track annotations.
2008-02-19 05015, 2008

Not necessary on those It's Not Too Bad tracks, but "elec. guit. playb. voc. etc." looks like crap and it's unnecessary in track title.

As ugly as "Kenwood demo; mellotron/vocal o/dubs ontocomposing seq" is, I think it's necessary because the album is showing the process in which the song was created
2008-02-19 05008, 2008
plzstopit
The evolution of the song, basically.

How else should you label it other than Strawberry Fields Forever A or something?

Ok, I've must have missed a memo. When trying to do a 'guess case' on a track with an added '(bonus track)', the '(bonus track)' disappears. Why is this?
man, I remember reading about this guy - he literally has like a million LPs

"Digital preservation would be fine were it not for the fact that CDs have a life-span of just 15 to 20 years." -- erm, no...
2008-02-19 05050, 2008
brianfreud
theoretically, no, realistically, 15-20 is pushing it
2008-02-19 05048, 2008

but if you're going to preserve large quantities of data, you don't do it on CD, you do it on some media that you can easily bulk-copy -- that's the point of digital preservation

The LoC is having huge issues keeping data-based records good for long periods due to the various issues.

btw, FauxFaux, your "find new releases of type" search is making it much easier when I need certain types of releases to test things on :)

brianfreud: my first cd recordables were still readable after 10 years. I expect a properly pressed CD should survive 15 years if treated reasonably well.
2008-02-19 05039, 2008
warp
(or was this referring to recordables?)
2008-02-19 05049, 2008

I was more thinking recordables, if we're talking data storage, but even for properly pressed CDs, I've had a large number disc rot after only 5 to 8
i'm still able to rip my oldest cds, they must be at least 15 years old

brianfreud: which involves repeatedly scratching them with sharp objects?
2008-02-19 05014, 2008

oh - no idea, maybe it was the extreme hot-cold of DC, but I never had any last more than a few years. Friends had the same experience, had to rebuy the same CDs over and over.

wow, that sucks.
2008-02-19 05042, 2008

yeah, you could see little black spots start to grow "in" them, in the layer between the aluminum and the plastic, or the discs would start to turn a whitish opaque from the outside edges in.

lol, I always thought the same... if they're "licensing" me the music, not selling it, when the CD stops working, or they come out with a new format, I ought to be able to replace/upgrade my "license" for less :P
