biggest problem is that all the discs are hilariously scratched though :(
nikki thinks hideously is probably a better word than hilariously
srotta
Yeah, that's a problem with some artists.
Muzzz_
Wizzcat: even then, havng access tot he cd case is useful
UPC codes! :D

frown they will.
sue, maybe not.

dataporn nerds.
that could be a good tagline for a t-shirt.

I think it's a better way of saying someone's anal retentive over data

yep.

pfft. I don't think I'd want to listen to most of the music they have at the library

me answer questions? I clearly have no answers ;-)

Wizzcat
Muzzz_: oh for sure, and disc ids :)
which is better, deleting a dupe release with a bucketload of mangled puids, or merging it and deleting the offending puids?
Kerensky97
merge and delete. It may still have good PUIDs

ack, is there any way to get back removed disc ids beyond manually readding it?

some jokers in the past thought it a good idea to remove a perfectly good disc id instead of finding out where it actually originated from
nikki
well, we don't have a rollback function, so you'd have to readd it
but if you know it's good, how come you can't readd it?
Muzzz_
I can hear Radiohead from my room
They're playing live in the park down the road
And I can hear the crowd singing along too
Wizzcat
I don't have the disc nikki, I'm just looking at discogs so I'm 99% sure I know which release it should've been added to
srotta
We should have some sort of "Heyall" feature in the system so that we could notify people about changes we're about to make.
I often see things that probably should be fixed but I have no exact information to do that. Just making a remove edit or something like that is a pretty ugly way to raise attention.
Muzzz_
ruaok: I'm pushing said data off of the aforementioned truck right now
ruaok runs to catch it
srotta
That's the case with disc ids, although with them it's likely to come back if it's correct.
Muzzz_
I'll scp it to my private server and drop you a link when it's done :)
ruaok
:-)
Wizzcat found a way to hax0r around the system, fight the power!!
search nerdvana is elusive!
juxtap
are trivial edits regarded as, well, trivial? will voters get pissed off?
Muzzz_
Some trivial edits don't require votes
So, what're you editing?
juxtap
cover art. at the moment the ASIN points to an image with an import sticker. i wanna change that
Muzzz_
Ah
juxtap
i tried just editing the ASIN from .com to .co.jp but that didn't work. the system just kept the .com.
guess i'll remove the ASIN and re-add
Muzzz_
REmove the AR and readd it, I can approve it so it doesn't need voting heh
nikki
which album is it?
juxtap
k, sec
nikki
you can't edit urls from the edit relationship page by the way
it seems like you can but it won't work
you have to click the 'info' link and click 'edit url' from there
Wizzcat
and pray that it works
nikki
you can't approve remove urls though, muz
Muzzz_
Ah no, not that, but the adding I can
nikki
the image gets updated immediately though, so approving wouldn't really do anything
ojnkpjg: I just realized that you're the author of oidentd, I've used it for years, thank you for making it :)

I think we may need a big(ger) notice on the editing pages that says *Your changes may not appear immediately. Most changes require a voting period before they will be visible.*
I keep seeing duplicate and triplicate edits where new editors try the same edit over and over. I try to be nice and warn them that their edits will fail when I can, but it gets old :)
nikki
sure they're not just accidental?
like clicking enter twice
mikemorr
Maybe sometimes
niklas
anyone who can see why if($mbid =~ m/([a-z0-9]8)-([a-z0-9]4)-([a-z0-9]4)-([a-z0-9]4)-([a-z0-9]12)/) would not evaluate to true when $mbid contains e.g. 010594c5-41b5-4877-bbc7-f995b6406986
(Perl)
ruaok
lol
I just looked up the regexp. like yesterday.
mikemorr
nikki: The ones I'm looking at tend to have about 3 minutes in between dupes, which to me suggests an editor noticing that their changes didn't "stick" and trying it again.
the most important is that the quantities need to be in {}
([a-z0-9]8
vs
nikki
mikemorr: I get the feeling that the colour doesn't help much these days, that yellow is practically invisible on all the monitors I've used in the last few years :/
ruaok
(a-z0-9]{8})
er
nikki made it pink in her custom css >D
([a-z0-9]{8})
niklas
ah I see. thank you
mikemorr
nikki: cool. how's that look with the purple and orange? :)
niklas
yup, that regex works fine
ruaok

Using Wikipedia as an example, they have all kinds of big bold warnings when you're editing a page. I'm not in the mood to start an RFC about it right now, but I wonder if anyone else thinks such a notice on the edit screen would help?
Or should I stop trying to save the noobs from themselves?
:)
Wizzcat
make it possible to turn off the big bad warnings maybe?
for us non-noobs
mikemorr
Wizzcat: I like that idea
nikki
mikemorr: brilliant :D
mikemorr
nikki: ?
the colours?

yes
