like i said we were swapping cassettes back when i was in college/grad school.
that was 1984
brick_ijigg
that's fine with me.
yllona
i was long out of school when NWA turned up.
BrianFreud
all I can say is I very well remember Girl's Ain't Nothing but Trouble, which iirc was on the 1st album, around '87 or '88 - didn't have to wait til those other 2 songs for them to be known in my circles in MD
yllona
heh. baltimore, great city, great radio back in the day.
BrianFreud
but then, we were white guys trading Easy E tapes :P
brick_ijigg
see, didn't even realize it was spelled with a Z, BrianFreud :)
yllona
and yes esasy e, also very "soft" by todays standards
brick_ijigg
on what grounds do you call him soft?
BrianFreud
brick_ijigg: I don't think I ever actually saw anything of his that wasn't a copy of a copy :P
yllona
phrasing and syncopation
BrianFreud
ah - because he quite definitely wasn't "soft" in terms of lyrical content...
yllona
BrianFreud: i might be able to get my hands on some eazy e, i'll know this weekend
*eazy e vinyl, rather
BrianFreud
not quite my thing these days; was much more something I was into at the time... 10-14 years old :P
yllona
eazy e didn't "spit" as the kids say today :P
BrianFreud: i'm grabbing a bunch of vinyl for several of my white friends who have just discovered the mysteries & wonder of funkadelic :P
BrianFreud
lol
yllona
and in order to fully comprehend funkadelic you need to see the original album art -- with the comics/graphic novels on the cover
aCiD2
March '08 D3D = Impressive
D3D SDK, that is
brick_ijigg
Shock G's record "Fear of a Mixed Planet" quite recalls the Funkadelic artwork
(i recommend it)
yllona
didn't pedro bell and/or overton lloyd do the artwork for that shock G album
I thought being an autoeditor meant you didn't need to beg for votes
yllona
BrianFreud: done
BrianFreud
merci
dholmes: can't autoedit a remove edit
dholmes_
Ah
BrianFreud
thanks too aCiD2

I hate when tapers don't actually title the tracks, then track differently in the nfo vs the files
FauxFaux
Nauti.
BrianFreud
quite nauti :)

FauxFaux: never heard the tune.
BrianFreud
Wanna be starting something?
FauxFaux
Cover isn't really what I mean anyway, it's got this bit in that's sampled in another song, both probably from some horribly old song.
Clint joined the channel
I mainly want to know what the other one I'm thinking of is, don't care about the original. :p
BrianFreud
maybe Soul Makossa?
dholmes_
Wikipedia: The song samples the Michael Jackson 1983 single "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'", which also sampled the Manu Dibango 1972 single "Soul Makossa"
I know... but I'd avoid the mess at risk of not exactly the same data
Or, I'm lazy, probably that :P
BrianFreud
lol
jeas!
figured I'd check, see if I'd hit 1000 add release edits yet.
Oh yeah I had, lol... 2716 add release edits ago :D

BrianFreud: the wefunk podcasts, you want them...
yllona is listening to A Cowboy Nation on Hippie Kracked KORN and I don't care Mix (lol) by worldwidefunk1 from W.E.F.U.N.K. #1 (2006) (14:06 / 61:40.47998046875)
Nice tft destroying background on that, BrianFreud. :)
yllona
i've heard good buzz about the lo-fi social club, i'll have to take a listen
FauxFaux wonders why my mirror seems to think I have no releases.
yllona suggests that FauxFaux should be completing coursework *cough*
BrianFreud
you didn't set dir=ltr :D
FauxFaux
yllona: I don't have that problem yet, I'd have to start it first. =p
yllona
FauxFaux: :)
BrianFreud
now, re: Ghosts I-IV. He only put Ghosts I up for free download, but the liner states that the entire I-IV is under a cc attrib-nc-share alike license. That means the entire thing can be freely distributed, correct?
and another band (who I also very much like) that also does similar "reaching out to the fans as real people" stuff - TMBG - is in their third or fourth week at the top of the kids charts at both
yllona
TMBG?
BrianFreud
They Might Be Giants
yllona
ah, got ya.
BrianFreud
They released the followup kids album Here Come the 123's a month ago
and her kids album "Barbara Hndricks Sings Disney" is one of the greats, it's OOP in the US i think
on NIN, aren't there a couple of hugely anticipated pop/rck albums due to be released in April?
BrianFreud
not sure... /me checks
FauxFaux
Mmm, it appears I'm missing a good chunk of the albummeta table, and this is why I have no releases. ANyone know how to regenerate it directly? Can't find a script..
BrianFreud
new B-52's & Counting Crows on 3/25, new Moby & REM on 4/1, new Breeders, Nick Cave, POD on 4/8, new Asia on 4/15, new Blind Melon & Flight Of The Conchords on 4/22, new Madonna, Portishead, Steve Winwood, The Roots 4/29, new Barenaked Ladies (kids album), Def Leppard, 3 Doors Down, Iron Maiden on 5/6, new Alanis Morissette 5/20, new Journey 6/3, new My Morning Jacket 6/10, new Motley Crue 7/8
yllona
ah, that's what i thought... that flight of the conchords thing is huge. i'm not sure why. music doesn't groove me
the TV show is considered a "hit" among the hipster set though
BrianFreud
never seen the show, but I do like the music
yllona
the new madonna will knock NIN off-the-charts however
BrianFreud
I doubt it... she'll end up in the top list, no doubt, but I don't think she's got as much cross-market draw as NIN (anymore)
ivankara joined the channel
be nice when the Concords album is out though; cooperaa and I've both added bootlegs for them, main problem at the moment is that half the titles are still unofficial
yllona
BrianFreud: you can get an episode for $1.99 on itunes (flight of...). great way to check it out on the cheap (and without adverts)
Spaztik has quit
BrianFreud
the 6 I most want to hear from that list are the Barenaked Ladies, My Morning Jacket, FotC, The Roots, REM, and Asia
