I haven't used musicbrainz all that much yet. great service for facts about artists. is it the service to use for genre-lookups as well?

or is that a little out of the scope of MB?
      • 2008-05-18 13920, 2008

      • FauxFaux
        MB specifically does't do genres.
      • 2008-05-18 13929, 2008

      • FauxFaux
        Far too subjective.

      • 2008-05-18 13937, 2008

      • clarby
FauxFaux: But 'tags' could be translated to genre. Any other sites to recommend for that?
      • 2008-05-18 13951, 2008

      • FauxFaux
clarby: Iirc there's a plugin to pull genres from last.fm's tags.

      • nikki
Ithaqua: well, while most of the albums people add do exist, there are a number where people have submitted stuff just to tag some files they downloaded and even though you have the CD, other people might not, so if they can look at the amazon link it's more reassuring for them :)

hehe... I think it's more that most people are familiar with amazon, for asian stuff I'd be perfectly happy with a yesasia or cdjapan link, but people less familiar with the area might doubt how reliable they are

when tagging in picard is there a way to put some sort of info in the album tag to distinguish different versions of the same album from each other in amarok... for example http://musicbrainz.org/release/4831c85e-dd92-445b… and http://musicbrainz.org/release/0db87549-5001-4c22… end up in the same folder and are tagged as the same album
