Wizzcat: nothing to do with japanese -- It's more an album release style thing
CatCat
>_<
just because the sleeve
hawke_
In my book, sleeve trumps all else
CatCat
that simply isnt true
not for classical. not for general, not for jazz
warp
well, we do have guidelines.
hawke_
I know, I know.
Wizzcat
then again, it is a single
hawke_
but where it's at all ambiguous, I tend to side with the sleeve.
Wizzcat
so moving it all down is probably appropriate
CatCat
"moving it down"?
hawke_
Wizzcat: isn't it an EP?
CatCat
ep is a non exsistance in thecdage
warp
CatCat: i would probably move the 'feat. CHARA' to the release title in this case.
CatCat
ep counts only for vinyl
maxisingle is to cd what ep is to vinyl
Wizzcat
CatCat: adding feat to the relevant tracks
warp
bullshit
CatCat
*usually*
Wizzcat
nah, plenty of cd eps, but that is not one
warp
maxisingle implies a bunch of mixes of the same song, with possibly one or a few other tracks.
EP is a short album, with no repeats of any of the tracks.
CatCat
its more an exeption/harder to define .than before the vinyl age
ah
CatCat was told that
so i thoguht
hawke_
I think "EP" is pretty much "what the artists want to call it" in CDs.
Muzzz
< CatCat> ep is a non exsistance in thecdage
That's not true
hawke_
There's certainly no clear-cut definition.
Muzzz
CDs and Vinyls are the medium. Album, single and EP refer to the content
CatCat
i alreaqdy clerarifyed that
shut up already its late
warp
the future sound of londen have some nice corner cases, where it's hard to determine wether we're talking about a single or an EP. but generally, it's quite clear.
CatCat
yes
hawke_
s/vinyls/record discs/
CatCat
i'm only repeating what others have said wrt ep's and vinyls & cd's
Muzzz
Yes, and it's not true :P
CatCat
so tell them, noy me
warp
:)
CatCat
whatever
CatCat will go "bullshit" off
hawke_
from the style guide, "usually it should only be assumed that a release is an EP if the artist defines it as such."
CatCat has left the channel
Muzzz
Artist or label heh
hawke_
well, yes.
Muzzz fires up Starcraft
Kerensky98
If I was an artist I'd make nightmare releases just to fuck with friends at MB.
"My EP has 22 tracks. And it IS artist intent." Most people would be wondering what the hell I meant but everybody here would know.
But it's kind of cheating since 4 tracks a karaoke tracks.
warp
they're not all the same song, are they?
hawke_
singles with different songs are common.
Kerensky98
No it's basically a maxi single of 4 songs with many remixes
warp
(not that that's a requirement for singles, but I'm sure there are singles out there with lots of remixes of the same song)
hawke_
The most common CD-single format as far as I know is one song, a bunch of remixes of that song, and then a different song.
outsidecontext has quit
warp
hawke_: ah, haven't seen that much.
hawke_
I don't own that many CD-singles, so that's my limited sample. :-D
If only collections were in MB proper, I could perhaps see how many that actually is.
Kerensky98
I like when they put those alternate version in there. If they're going to charge alot for a single they should put some rare versions of the song in there too.
warp
I just want the music video on DVD.
Kerensky98
That's a nice bonus too.
warp
I like japanese singles because of that :).
although recently the big names are all releasing CD+DVD albums with all the videos on them too.
(which is even better).
Kerensky98
I think that's a good solution to the "we're losing market share to iTunes and online downloads" Throw some cool videos on a cheap disc of plastic and suddenly buying the physical albums are alot more interesting to me.
warp nods.
warp
and i should be sleeping.
hawke_
hehe...I actually have several DVD music video releases which I've never watched
warp
goodnight! :)
hawke_
if I wanted to take the time to sit through a several-hour concert, I'd spend that time watching a movie.
