The alias is already there :p
      • luks
        then I'd move it
      • navap
        Okay
      • nikki
luks: how easy would it be to make 'add label' edits autoedits for everyone?
      • ruaok
        easy
      • navap
I thought the point was they can't fail, but because they're not autoedits it makes it easy to spot dupes. (It you're looking for them anyway)
      • If*
      • nikki
navap: people can search for 'add label' and 'not before x hours ago'
      • luks
        very easy
      • ruaok
nikki: did you find your missing response? It went to mb-users
      • nikki
        ohh
      • navap
I'm just quoting voiceinsideyou here :p He's the crazy one that hunts down edits like those.
      • nikki
I have nearly all the mailing lists in the same folder so I didn't notice
      • navap
Does the mailinglist archiver have a cut off point? I sent an email and the last section was cut out online. It ended the email at quite a bad spot as well..
      • The email that people received had the whole thing though.
      • nikki
navap: I know it wasn't your argument, hence why I said 'people' and not 'you' ;) it's just a poor argument for keeping them as they are
      • navap
I agree, I pind it odd that a user can be presented with a voting screen, and if they vote no nothing happens :/
      • nikki
anyway, ruaok, luks, whoever, could we change them to be autoedits for the tt release? the current behaviour is that they don't get removed even if they fail because the attached release events stop them from being removable... it's a lot like artists used to be, as far as I remember
      • ruaok
        seems reasonable to me.
      • enter an enhancement request? that way voice gets a chance to pipe up. :)
      • warp finally gets around to reading ProposedUserVoiceWorkflow
      • luks
I don't get what is uservoice useful for :(
      • warp
luks: getting feedback from users about what features they want, and have those same users somewhat prioritise them. (by majority rule basically).
      • ruaok
I'd be happier if we could vote for bugs/enhancements in trac.
      • but thats less user friendly for the non-geeks.
      • luks
I don't think voting is a solution to anything, personally
      • voting by users, that is
      • ruaok
I think its a valid concept for gauging people's interest.
      • warp
luks: i think it is a valid way to measure interest in a certain feature, if you are aware of the limitations of doing it that way.
      • acid2 joined the channel
      • navap wonders what kind of feature enhancments people could want that a) Aren't bugs that need fixing and b) Features that everyone wants as already on the table..even if it is on the far side (NGS for example).
      • acid2
        woooooooo
      • warp
ruaok: are you aware of any trac plugins which would allawy some kind of voting, etc..?
      • acid2
        :)
      • ruaok
        no, but I haven't looked.
      • acid2 catches up on chatlogs
      • acid2: hola!
      • acid2
        hola!
      • luks
warp: well, I find it similar to ubuntu's brainstorm
      • warp
ruaok: ok, i guess some should be spent exploring that direction before any decision can be made on the topic.
      • acid2 has quit
      • +time
      • luks
warp: which is full of stupid ideas (people don't know what they really want)
      • ruaok
        luks: you're spot on there.
      • nikki
with uservoice, all that stuff stays in uservoice instead of ending up in trac :P
      • luks
I can close tickets in trac, and I can get emails about new tickets in trac
      • I can do neither in uservoice
      • navap
Well, what do people want that we don't know about already?
      • ruaok
nikki: did you ever make any progress on the feedback button for the old server?
      • warp
luks: i'm not familiar with brainstorm (i'll have a look), i agree with the general assumption that users are stupid.
      • navap
        UV has RSS
      • nikki
no, I had to go to bed
      • acid2 joined the channel
      • navap
Not saying that RSS is "good" just stating it as a fact.
      • nikki
ruaok: CatCat also discovered that the button on your server doesn't work in opera 9.2x too
      • ruaok
        oh lovely.
      • warp
luks: you don't have to! we'll have UV admins to filter between stupid users and developers :)
      • navap
nikki: Is 9.2 the latest version for mac?
      • nikki
luks: they can be closed in uservoice, I guess you just need to be an admin to do that
      • navap
He is on a mac right?
      • nikki
        navap: nah, of course not
      • they have 10a ones out and stuff
      • luks
navap: have you tried the RSS? :P
      • nikki
and yes, he's on a mac
      • navap
Well, then tell him to upgrade and be done with it!
      • nikki
navap: it was agreed that we'd support opera 9+
      • ruaok
        lol
      • luks
adding http://musicbrainz.uservoice.com/index.atom to my rss reader and getting unrelated posts :)
      • navap
luks: Actually I have, and I find it passeable at this stage with minimal activity.
      • hm?
      • luks
        Mango Blog on UserVoice
      • nikki
        weird...
      • navap
I really have no complaints, except I can't go and browse through them nicely like I can via gmail/trac
      • That hasn't happened for me..I have both General and Picard in my rss reader.
      • warp
navap/nikki: catcat isn't always on mac.
      • luks
navap: well, I wanted both in the same feed
      • navap
Well tell him to upgrade all his Opera's :)
      • luks
and the link seemed like the right one
      • acid2
I like the argument that we should always support the last 2 releases of all web browsers, at minimum
      • luks
I should probably suggest them to fix the atom feed :)
      • navap
UV has bugs, I sent a email (bypassing uv.uv.com :p) and they fixed it pretty fast.
      • acid2
not sure where I read that, but seems a good guideline
      • navap
I had a bug where my account was cached improperly or something..weird stuff would happen on my end :/
      • warp
luks: hihi, brainstorm is a bit scary
      • luks
        ubuntu users are generally scare
      • scary
      • not saying there aren't some good ideas there
      • but people with the good ideas could easily make them bug reports or blueprints in launchpad
      • ruaok
      • warp
ruaok: http://trac-hacks.org/wiki/VotePlugin , looks a bit too subtle in the screenshot.
      • ruaok
looks like our public data was exposed via freebase.
      • heh. :)
      • warp: interesting.
      • I'm included to try uservoice. if it turns out to be a total mess, we can go back to this.
      • and if its too subtle we can make it more obvious. :)
      • warp
ruaok: yes, shouldn't be too hard to create an alternative interface for it.
      • ruaok
I've got a call in a minute... after that I'll get working on UV.
      • nikki
      • ruaok
        thanks nikki
      • navap
I like the subtle hint at the end :p
      • nikki
        hah :P
      • warp hadn't heard about freebase.

      • navap
acid2: http://musicbrainz.org/show/edit/?editid=10085740 Are you sure that your UPC was for the US release?
      • It seems to suit this better, and Amazon also suggests the same. http://musicbrainz.org/show/edit/?editid=10156403
      • luks
the UPC has US country code
      • Munger has quit
      • those are not always right, but it's a hint that it could be the US release
      • Munger1
Munger1 is now known as Munger
      • navap
It matches the UK catalog number that the BBC has, and also the amazon listing
      • http://www.hbdirect.com/album_detail.php?pid=10... shows a different UPC for the US date.
      • But as you said, it is a US UPC, so I don't know..stuff like this makes me really confused sometimes.
      • If its a UR UPC, isn't it an import?
      • US*

do we have any PHP programmers in the house?
      • (ones willing to admit it anways)
      • acid2 joined the channel
      • luks has no problem admitting it :)
      • u willing to take an email from someone trying to write a discid generator in php?
      • luks
        sure
      • I was playing with benchmarking the java server server, and the result was that it's probably not going to help
      • ruaok
        you're kidding...
      • luks
it was nice seeing it produce around 80 track searches per second
      • but then I realized I'm using AND queries
      • and both picard and jaikoz use (default) OR queries
      • which are, understandable, way slower
      • *understandably
      • ruaok
what rate did you get with OR queries?
      • I forwarded that email. please copy support@ when replying.
      • luks
it dropped to something like 5 reqs/s, but I was doing always one request at a time
      • it was able to search faster in multiple threads if I used multiple processes to send the requests
      • ruaok
        any idea by how much?
      • 300 reqs/minute isn't very good.
      • also what kind of processor and how much ram?
      • acid2
why are or queries that much slower?
      • luks
part of the problem was probably my jvm setup
      • it hardly used any RAM
      • ruaok
did the data get effectively cached or was there lots of disk io?
      • luks
well, I can upload the code to svn so you can play with it if you want
      • ruaok
acid2: because there are lot more terms that result in a lot more possible matches that need to get weeded out.
      • luks
but I think it's not going to be a big win
      • acid2
right, but still, an order of magnitude slower?
      • didn't think it'd be that much
      • CatCat
yllona: hey, where where you, last i heard of you you was gonna send me soem code review info stuff trough mail, and that's tha last i heard of you
      • i got worried :(
      • ruaok
well, I have a spare server here in my office that we can use to test it more thouroughly.
      • CatCat
