http://musicbrainz.org/release-group/4e2eb7e2-e0a… - should that really have `A´ (and not 'A')?
      • 2009-10-23 29612, 2009

      • navap
        It should have 'A'.

I don't know if its just me, but by default the volume is lower on most of the classical music I have in mp3 / flac
      • 2009-10-23 29634, 2009

      • remyo
Whenever I rip a classical cd, or download something. Its always so quiet compared to my other music
      • 2009-10-23 29635, 2009

      • navap
        Have you heard of replaygain?
      • 2009-10-23 29646, 2009

      • remyo
I mean, I turn it up of course :)
      • 2009-10-23 29654, 2009

      • remyo
I'm just wondering what the reason might be

      • 2009-10-23 29609, 2009

      • navap
No problem :) I found it quite interesting too.

      • remyo
Interesting, but... A little annoying :|
      • 2009-10-23 29645, 2009

      • navap
        Using replaygain helps.
      • 2009-10-23 29618, 2009

      • remyo
Do you apply it to all your mp3s to get consistant volume? Or just the ones that need it?
      • 2009-10-23 29629, 2009

      • navap
        All.
      • 2009-10-23 29650, 2009

      • remyo
And it worked ok? How many files do you have?
      • 2009-10-23 29617, 2009

      • navap
The effect of doing that will be to reduce the volume of the rock/pop tracks down to the level of the classical stuff so everything ends up nice and equal. Mostly.
      • 2009-10-23 29649, 2009

      • navap
You just have to scan your library, you can do it album by album as you listen to them, or all in one shot. It doesn't matter how many files you have.
      • 2009-10-23 29622, 2009

      • remyo
I might have to try that. I know for example when I go from Tchaikovsky to Michael Jackson my ears get blown out sometimes
      • 2009-10-23 29636, 2009

      • navap
        Yup.
      • 2009-10-23 29653, 2009

      • navap
RG isn't perfect, but it helps quite a bit.
      • 2009-10-23 29641, 2009

      • navap
And the great thing is if it messes up a scan and asigns a value taht's too high/low, you can just manually edit it since it's just another tag in the file. No fuss.
      • 2009-10-23 29658, 2009

      • remyo
        Yeah, looking into it, thanks

I use to use a program called foobar2000 that had a pretty sweet way of applying volume changes to mp3's
      • 2009-10-23 29628, 2009

      • remyo

how long should it take for newly added artist to be "findable" in the db?
      • 2009-10-23 29601, 2009

      • v6lur
i'm trying to add a release to an artist i added 35 min ago, and it keeps telling me "Artist with ArtistID #650654 not found in the database"
      • 2009-10-23 29617, 2009

      • v6lur
is it supposed to take that long? :)
      • 2009-10-23 29640, 2009

      • v6lur
ummm... now under my edits, it shows the added artist as "Deleted Artist"

      • 2009-10-23 29622, 2009

      • 2009-10-23 29629, 2009

      • v6lur
so it wouldn't delete newer than, say, 2 hours?
