I imagine it would depend on how long it will take to get enough PUIDs into the DB to supplant TRMs, which would depend on how easy it's made to add PUIDs to the DB, ...
2006-04-26 11649, 2006
Nyght
MartinRudat: I would have to be able to take the alternately attached puid (that music iP attaches to the song) and be able to put those in without having to reanalyze
2006-04-26 11605, 2006
g0llum
quick question:
2006-04-26 11613, 2006
Nyght
I could have a good 20,000 puid's up in a very short time. ;)
2006-04-26 11627, 2006
g0llum thinks the link color on mb.org is too similar to the regular text
2006-04-26 11630, 2006
MartinRudat blinks, and wonders why the link Added_some is in http://wiki.musicbrainz.org/JapaneseArtists ... nothing else wants Added_some as a page (as far as WantedPages is concerned)...
2006-04-26 11634, 2006
g0llum
what do you think?
2006-04-26 11619, 2006
MartinRudat
I'd un-link it, but for some reason my browser toasts japanese text...
2006-04-26 11621, 2006
yalaforge
g0llum: on my laptop screen they are *very* similar
2006-04-26 11623, 2006
Nyght
which link color g0llum?
2006-04-26 11623, 2006
MartinRudat
hmm... well, yes, and well, no...
2006-04-26 11618, 2006
MartinRudat
yes, it's similar to the main text colour, but no, it would probably be distracting if it's too di-similar to the main text colour...
2006-04-26 11619, 2006
yalaforge
other colours on MB are almost impossible to differentiate on cheap TFTs, too. like the 'pending moderation' colour, which is pretty much invisible
2006-04-26 11657, 2006
g0llum
Nyght: of all the links
2006-04-26 11658, 2006
MartinRudat
s/i-/is-/
2006-04-26 11617, 2006
g0llum
i'm trying to put some more documentation links into the page texts
2006-04-26 11630, 2006
g0llum
but it won't help if you don't even notice that these are links :-)
2006-04-26 11639, 2006
MartinRudat
...theme/skin? =)
2006-04-26 11647, 2006
g0llum
the easiest way would be to underline them
2006-04-26 11603, 2006
g0llum
but that goes not well with the design
2006-04-26 11629, 2006
yalaforge
at least it would be the traditional way for displaying links
2006-04-26 11602, 2006
Nyght
WEll it looks like there was a decent amount of thought for not too high contrasting colors the pages aren't hard on the eyes, but the only place I have difficulty is on the left column. The grey and "purplish" are sometimes difficult to differentiate, but you wouldn't want to make it too extreme because garish and glare would make it
2006-04-26 11605, 2006
yalaforge doesn't care, but people will complain if you change it ;-)
2006-04-26 11609, 2006
MartinRudat
for the main text, I think that you could make the link colour darker, or more saturated, but that might end up causing trouble for people who are colourblind...
2006-04-26 11619, 2006
Nyght
difficult to continue to work for as long as some people do look at these colors. :D
2006-04-26 11654, 2006
MartinRudat
huh. the links in the sidebar _are_ different colours, I've never noticed...
2006-04-26 11608, 2006
Nyght
Yes they are Martin :)
2006-04-26 11633, 2006
MartinRudat goes to crank up the font-size... the font I'm using seems to be eating underscores...
2006-04-26 11643, 2006
yalaforge likes the new menu a lot better than the old sidebar
2006-04-26 11603, 2006
yalaforge
but the new sidebar, hmm, well ... ;-)
2006-04-26 11656, 2006
LTjake has quit
2006-04-26 11604, 2006
toxickore joined the channel
2006-04-26 11647, 2006
MartinRudat
hmm... do you have stats for which links people use the most often? I find myself using the quicksearch boxes a lot, and my profile page to get to my list of moderations (to find that release that started all this nonsense)...
2006-04-26 11615, 2006
yalaforge
nope, although it would be interesting
2006-04-26 11653, 2006
yalaforge once suggested to analyze the server logs to find out which artists are the most popular ones etc., but nobody seemed to be interested in that
2006-04-26 11612, 2006
MartinRudat
really? it doesn't seem (on the surface of things) to be too hard a thing to do... I know that lookup counts are computed for some record types already...
2006-04-26 11624, 2006
Nyght
I use the profile a lot, wiki intermittently and ...
2006-04-26 11642, 2006
Nyght
old search
2006-04-26 11645, 2006
yalaforge
MartinRudat: I even volunteered to write the script, but still
2006-04-26 11621, 2006
g0llum
yalaforge: any ideas for better sidebar features? :-)
2006-04-26 11634, 2006
yalaforge
yeah, actually
2006-04-26 11636, 2006
yalaforge
:-)
2006-04-26 11642, 2006
MartinRudat
I'd love a link to the releases I've added recently, I seem to go profile -> moderations -> page, page, page -> disc a lot...
2006-04-26 11614, 2006
yalaforge
g0llum: move the login link to the top banner (right upper corner)
2006-04-26 11622, 2006
yalaforge
then I can get rid of the sidebar :-)
2006-04-26 11624, 2006
Nyght
Yeah same here Martin, but others have the searching down to a science, so I think that's just lack of knowledge with advance search. ;)
2006-04-26 11628, 2006
g0llum
yalaforge: yeah ;)
2006-04-26 11639, 2006
g0llum
but the sponsors have to go somewhere it seems
2006-04-26 11644, 2006
g0llum
because the userpref is ignored :P
2006-04-26 11610, 2006
yalaforge
well, I have no problem as long as I can click the 'hide' link
2006-04-26 11651, 2006
g0llum
the reasons i have the sidebar shown: resolution big enough / the search box :)
2006-04-26 11658, 2006
yalaforge
yeah.
2006-04-26 11603, 2006
MartinRudat
Nyght: it's not so much searching, but getting back to the release I just added... I suppose I should just keep a tab open with the release in it... and every track and artist I'm tring to add relationships between too...
2006-04-26 11614, 2006
g0llum
but since ppl complained about 800x600 resolution...
2006-04-26 11632, 2006
Nyght
That's what I do Martin. ;) It's so much easier than back back back. ;)
2006-04-26 11647, 2006
yalaforge
seriously, I think the login link should be somewhere else
2006-04-26 11657, 2006
yalaforge didn't find it at first :-)
2006-04-26 11658, 2006
MartinRudat
Nyght: but I don't have a 5000-pixel wide monitor! =)
2006-04-26 11618, 2006
Nyght
tabs and 1280 by 1024, it does work. ;)
2006-04-26 11626, 2006
yalaforge
it used to be on the landmarks bar, but it doesn't belong there either. after all it doesn't lead to a part of the site
2006-04-26 11641, 2006
yalaforge is trying to find a site that does it well
2006-04-26 11642, 2006
Nyght
course then you miss little things like colons and teleGUISE jumps on you for double colons ;)
2006-04-26 11639, 2006
yalaforge should probably stop complaining as he doesn't want to implement it
2006-04-26 11648, 2006
Nyght
Or maybe he just likes pickin on me. :D
2006-04-26 11651, 2006
MartinRudat
Nyght: I'm talking about the tabs scrolling about three screen for the number of tabs I'd need to have open... =)
2006-04-26 11616, 2006
Nyght
LOL! Better use of your release and back works too!
2006-04-26 11654, 2006
Nyght
I know when I was doing the AR's for .... Reinhold's tribute album I was doing to back's to shift the AR, it worked really well!
2006-04-26 11656, 2006
MartinRudat
I'd much rather have ARs as batch operations, but that's work...
2006-04-26 11608, 2006
Nyght
two back pages too.
2006-04-26 11603, 2006
MartinRudat
if I had more ARs to do, I'd start considering writing a script to do all the clicking for me...
2006-04-26 11608, 2006
Nyght
after I applied the mod, I would click back to where you could choose the AR and go on;.. err.. no, that was Jack of All Trades. Sorry, where I had a computer, producer etc all for the same track
yalaforge: that's usually where login is in a lot of places
2006-04-26 11639, 2006
g0llum
yup
2006-04-26 11656, 2006
yalaforge likes it and people seem to find the link, unlike the current solution
2006-04-26 11607, 2006
g0llum
but show it to nikki_ and she'll complain about the font size
2006-04-26 11617, 2006
yalaforge
I'll take care of that :-)
2006-04-26 11624, 2006
g0llum
it only looks good if you use small fonts for these kinds of thingies :)
2006-04-26 11624, 2006
ojnkpjg
i like the way it renders in firefox a lot
2006-04-26 11633, 2006
ojnkpjg
i think it looks much better than it did a few months ago
2006-04-26 11615, 2006
g0llum
ojnkpjg: which site are you talking about?
2006-04-26 11628, 2006
g0llum
eclipse is not a site i visit too often
2006-04-26 11631, 2006
MartinRudat grumps about sites that use flyspeck 3... then again, I've set my font-size to 10pt or so...
2006-04-26 11617, 2006
ojnkpjg
mb
2006-04-26 11633, 2006
ojnkpjg
i wasn't paying attention to conversation earlier, if you were talking about something else
2006-04-26 11652, 2006
yalaforge
heh, in fact I know now who could implement it ;-)
2006-04-26 11639, 2006
MartinRudat
personally, I think wikipedia's sidebar looks nice, though I think the second section should be moved to the top of the sidebar...
2006-04-26 11606, 2006
ojnkpjg
anyone played with plone much?
2006-04-26 11658, 2006
MartinRudat
plone? no, it rings a bell, though...
2006-04-26 11634, 2006
yalaforge
some content management system. never used it
2006-04-26 11651, 2006
yalaforge
there are so many these days, difficult to keep track
2006-04-26 11650, 2006
g0llum
ojnkpjg: thanks, i appreciate it :)
2006-04-26 11610, 2006
MartinRudat was in charge of the website for a school project, I just stuck a password-protected wiki up... I don't know why I did, no-one seemed to edit it but me... =)
2006-04-26 11630, 2006
ojnkpjg
plone is a CMS on top of zope
2006-04-26 11634, 2006
ojnkpjg
it makes my head hurt
2006-04-26 11606, 2006
luks
that happens with all open-source CMSes :)
2006-04-26 11626, 2006
Nyght hides during the way over technical stuff
2006-04-26 11629, 2006
Nyght
;)
2006-04-26 11605, 2006
MartinRudat shakes a unix manual at Nyght, ooga booga! =)
2006-04-26 11633, 2006
mustaqila cringes as MartinRudat just reminded him of Hasselhoff's Hooked on a Feeling...
2006-04-26 11627, 2006
MartinRudat
David Hasselhoff of Knight Rider and Babe^H^Hywatch fame?
mustaqila: what, sorta like Barry Mannilow, only with less ability to sing?
2006-04-26 11606, 2006
mustaqila
Hahah
2006-04-26 11641, 2006
MartinRudat
I was under the impression that a complete unix manual would be hard to misplace... kinda like misplaceing your dead-tree version of the Encyclopedia Britannica...
2006-04-26 11644, 2006
Nyght
and talk about a cheesy video!
2006-04-26 11652, 2006
Nyght
of course, I'm not cringing from his voice.. so..
2006-04-26 11657, 2006
yalaforge
yay! 7th edition, vol. 1. from january 1979 :-)
2006-04-26 11610, 2006
MartinRudat
that's older than I am.
2006-04-26 11624, 2006
yalaforge
same here. but not much :-(
2006-04-26 11628, 2006
MartinRudat
...though not more than a couple of months.
2006-04-26 11619, 2006
ojnkpjg
i noticed a second edition of advanced programming in the unix environment was released
2006-04-26 11619, 2006
Knio1 has quit
2006-04-26 11625, 2006
ojnkpjg
i was really hoping for that for a long time
2006-04-26 11626, 2006
Nyght makes no comment oin age
2006-04-26 11628, 2006
ojnkpjg
then stevens drowned
2006-04-26 11635, 2006
ojnkpjg
i figured that was the end of that
2006-04-26 11645, 2006
yalaforge has the old apue. great book
2006-04-26 11648, 2006
ojnkpjg
yes
2006-04-26 11610, 2006
ojnkpjg
i think i have all of stevens' books except tcpip illustrated vol 3
2006-04-26 11635, 2006
Knio joined the channel
2006-04-26 11639, 2006
ojnkpjg
and my copy of 1 has been on load now for a couple of years
2006-04-26 11644, 2006
ojnkpjg
er, loan
2006-04-26 11649, 2006
yalaforge read TCP/IP illustrated 1 a few years ago
