we have performer on the 1st and composer on 2nd

the one by SA into the one by VA

and there's no way to say they are truly the same recording

this is a popular pairing actually

still the problem of know who the performer is on the 2nd especially since there is a disc ID associated

discid on VA album comes from FreeDB, i think

but you can't reverse lookup from MB to freeDB

and the data there is less reliable

why that one?

if you look through that list you'll notice that these 2 works are paired together quite often

we don't have enough data in either listing to know if they are the same

the SA album, is the one attributed to St Petersburg TV and Radio, its an import, it was released in '94 and the cover doesn't list Tales of An Old Grandmother,which is why it's not included in the title IMO, all circumstantial evidence though

i think the allmusic link that you posted also doesn't include Tales of An Old Grandmother, which is why it's substantially shorter, by 4 minutes or so

you'd have to look through each link on that page to see what else is on the recording

it' often paired with Carnival which as apparent from the listing but you'd have to do a fair amount of research for actual track listings and that most likely is not a complele list but more importantly shows just how incomplete the MB listings are

at the same time the merge doesn't really make things worse

since you have an SA recording to go by I'd fix that listing instead

unfortunately MB isn't yet classical friendly and prior to AR the situation was far worse

plenty of data has been lost making for some very crappy entries

i like the decision to delete one of them, but i'm really against me fixing anything :)

i've never seen anyone use ARs like album design or photography or art direction in MB and artistdirect.com has them quite often especially on popular albums
